“
It is our sincere hope that you will enjoy the contents of your 1958 - 59 annual. We have tried to give you a picture review of the year's events so that in years to come many of the worthwhile and pleasant memories will remain to give you some joyous moments with the past. Our efforts then will become in reality quite meaningful. The Staff We, the class of 1959, wish to dedicate this Annual to Miss Patricia Hall. We wish you to know that we appreciate your kindness, respect your ability, and value your leadership. We know that many times we have given you reason to doubt this statement. We have frequently tried your patience to the breaking point, but you must understand that we rarely mean the thoughtless things we say and do. You not only prepared us for life in the classroom, but you helped our class to have a most wonderful and success- ful Senior trip and memorable parties. In gratitude, we dedicate this book to you. The last four years have passed rapidly, and now we stand on the brink of the future, which we hope is even brighter. Only time will tell. While Freshmen, we were under the guidance of Mrs. Seals and Mr. Weatherhead. Our class was led by President, Mary Ann Hobart; Vice-President, Paul Burdon; Sec- retary, Judy MacDonald; and Treasurer, Suzanne Starmann. We had many good times such as a get-acquainted party, a hayride, selling pennant pins, a bake sale, and a May Dance. That year drew to a close all too rapidly and in the fall we were Sophomores. During our Sophomore year we were headed by President, Forry Walpole; Vice-Presi- dent, Bill Ruhl; Secretary, Lois Dorland; and Treasurer, Fred Leeson. Sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Seals we sold pennants, (some of which are still around), had a car wash, and a skating party. 30 Our Junior year is one which will always stand out in our minds. We were a busy class, selling mums at the Homecoming game, sponsoring the Junior Play, Cheap- er By The Dozen, which we all enjoyed, the hard work on the magazine sales, and the stars in everyone's eyes during Sayonara, the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom at which the Alma College Clansmen played. During our Junior year we were under the guidance of President, Bob Johnson; Vice-President, Dave Wilson; Secretary, Dian Cardew; and Treasurer, Janet Auslander. Mr. Kamida and Mr. Cardew were our spon- sors. Now, as the most memorable and rewarding year of our lives draws to a close, we recall how Miss Hall and Mr. Miller were always available for us to fall back on in time of necessity. President Linda De Long; Vice-President Elaine Butler, Secretary Judy Hudson; and Treasurer Judy Gremel, were our officers. Still fresh in our minds are the soaking we got at the car wash; the taffy still in our teeth; the mums we sold and the Homecoming Dance; the Christmas Prom, Silver Bells ; and how our feet hurt afterwards; the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, Hawaii, which we'll always remem- ber because it was our last; and the trip to Chicago by boat and the time we spent feeding the fish. Recalling that long march on Baccalaureate night and at long last the night we have waited for, GRADUATION, when we finally got that diploma. The hardest part of all was seeing our friends for what might be the last time. The good- byes were the hardest of all. We, the class of 1959, can never forget these times. When we meet again, if we all get back to our reunion, we will talk over these and many other times that time, new friends, or new experiences can't erase from our memories. o4j MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED F. Wilson Ten ears have gone by since we left the halls of our Alma Mater. Edwina Dering and I, Kathreen Zinnecker, decide to tour the world. During this tour we shall endeavor to locate our former classmates. On our tour we come across many of our classmates whom we left in 1959 at Cass City High School. Our first stop is New York City where we run across Larry Malace, a comedian, working in one of the city's night clubs. Upon entering the night club we see Ruth Ann Muntz, now Mrs. Wally Czekai, who is also a star performer. She is accompanied at the piano by Charleme Beckett. Seated at a reserved table is the governor of New York, Bob Johnson, with his wife, the former Dian Cardew. Our next stop is the automotive capital of the world, Detroit, where we find Leonard Ziemba testing cars at the Ford proving grounds. While talking to Leonard, we find that another of our former classmates, Lois Dorland, is executive secretary for the president of Ford Motors. The following day we go to see the Tigers play. Their starting pitcher is our own Paul Burden. The opposing team, the Cleveland Indians, is managed by Henry Rock who makes Ron Copeland the starting pitcher. Upon leaving Briggs Stadium Edwina falls and sprains her ankle; so, we rush-to Ford Hospital. There we find Carolyn Gross as head nurse. In the emergency room Barbara Irrer and Kay McCarthy are waiting to receive us. While waiting for Jim Hutchison to read the X-ray, we see Sandra Bryant, Marlene Salgat and Vera Mae Wright are nurses in the hospital. Coming from an appendectomy, we find Dr. John Starr with his surgical nurse, Janet Peck. We stop in Chicago to see a fashion show featuring the latest styles designed by Edwina Dering. While watching the show we recognize one of the models as Judy Gretz. We spend our extra time in Chicago at the art museums. We notice a beautiful portrait done by Irene Gabler. We also spot a jungle scene painted by Dick Perry, who is now living in Africa with his wife the former Phyllis Gelatt, a Missionary. Now we head for Las Vegas, Nevada where we find Jack Generous the owner of one of Nevada's famous gambling casinos. We leave the next morning for Hollywood. Miile driving to Hollywood, we turn on the car radio and hear the number one song, which is sung by the Princetons, Bill Ruhl, Newell Harris, Bob Copeland and Forest Walpole. In Hollywood we find David Wilson starring in Universal International's newest movie, which was written by Susan Tyo. On the set we find Janet Auslander and Aileen Wagner as hair stylists. While in California we also find Dorthy Crawford who is now married and living on an army base. One place we must visit is Richard Mika's Texas ranch on which he raises racing horses. As his jockey we find Leroy Copeland. His wife is the former Jo Ann Burns. Near by is a famous cattle ranch owned by David Parrish. John Spaid is the President of the oil company which is drilling oil on Dave's ranch. From the ranch we go to Dallas, to visit Dave Ackerman, who is doing research work in chemical engineering. We now go to see the 500 mile Indianapolis race where we find Raymond Dearing going onto the track in his sports car. There's also one woman racing; her name is Beverly Czeszewski. Seated two rows behind us is Duane Caister, Ray's mechanic. Our last stop in the United States is Florida. On the beach we find Rosemary Lounsbury and Janet Walmsley sun bathing. They are vacationing from their teaching duties. We leave for our trip abroad by boat. While waiting on the pier we see Jerry Vandermark, who is now captain of a navy destroyer. He is accompanied by Bob Holcomb and Gary Caro Ian. After we got on board ship, we settled down to get a sun tan. While sitting there, I saw a face that seemed to be familiar. Sure enough, it was Sue Edzik on a vacation to France. We yelled at her, and in great surprise she came over and started to talk. She told us that traveling with her was our own Judy Gremel. Both girls are now teachers. When we arrived in France we take a train to Paris. There we rent a car to go sight-seeing. Leaving the city we go into the country. There a strange, long-haired cat runs in front of the car. We stop and find that the poor cat is dead. We decide to give him a decent burial; so, to the morgue we go. Imagine our surprise when we find Fred McKay as mortician in Etampes. Our next stop is London. While visiting the American Embassy we meet Judy Hudson and Kay Helwig, who are working as secretaries. We board a T. W. A. airliner for New York. As stewardess we find Rose Leyva. During stopover we go to see Peggy Shaw, who is now a psychiatrist. While talk- ing to Peggy she tells us that Bob Walters is now working as an interpreter in the U. N. Our plane soon leaves for Detroit. We take a taxi driven by Danny Papp to the bus station. Our Gray Hound bus driver is Jim Smithson. As we get our tickets we meet Mary Hanby, she tells us she is now working as a child psychologist. Finally we arrive at Cass City. Here we see many more of our former classmates. First, we go to the High School where Fred Leeson is now coach, and his wife, the former Mary Ann Hobart, is teaching Home Economics. In the elementary school Suzanne Starmann and Mary Ann Gracey are now teaching. Shirley Hiser is working in the office for Mr. Campbell. We are told that another one of our classmates, Margaret Graham, is teaching in Kansas City. Looking over the past sports records that our teams have made we are told that Bob Tuckey has been signed for professional basketball. We hear that many of our boys are working on farms which they now own. Among them are Bernard Babich, Bill Merchant, Richard Lefler, Charles Wright, Gene Cook, Bob Spencer and Martin Szeremi. In one of our local factories we find that John Dunlap is now Vice-President. Ann Izydorek is John's secretary. Chuck Auvil is an executive in another local fac- tory, his secretary is Kay Hartwick. While driving through town, we meet a gas truck with the name Ware on it. Yes, it is our own David Ware. We now visit the new hospital where Janet Perry is working as dietitian. Working there as secretaries are Wanda Bader, Carolyn Lowe and Joan Quinn. In the pediatrics- is Catherine Rutkoski. Many of the girls with whom we graduated are now married and raising families. Elaine Butler is married and living in Caro. Next door to Elaine is Roberta Hiser. While walking down main street we see a blonde girl who could be no one else than Linda De Long now Raymond Root's wife. She tells us Sandra Proulz is married and living in Alaska. Also married, and living on a farm is Beverly Russell. Later we decide to go to Bad Axe. On our way we stop at Winters Gas Station to find the former Janice O'Dell pumping gas. There is a new jalopy race track near Bad Axe. We stop to watch the boys race. Peter Franks wins first place with a car, which he built. Helping him at the side lines is our own Fred Smith. While we are watching the race we see another of our former classmates, Judy Cleland Doerr who lives near by. We now leave the race and drive on toward Bad Axe. We see a big white barn with Richard O'Neil's name on it. The barn was built by Charles McConnell.' Raising miniature French poodles are Bob Gurden and TomCybulski. I buy one to take back to my apartment in Detroit. We arrive at my apartment in Detroit to find several overdue bills which must be paid. Rushing to the Detroit Edison we find Sherryl Pelton and Judy Harbec as clerks. In the evening we go out for dinner. The restaurant is owned by Gurman Salas and Stanely Pieczara. While walking home we meet a policeman. Bob Fisher. Talk- ing to Bob is Ron Wright who is now a teacher in Detroit.' In my apartment house are two former classmates, Betty Seeley and Janice Caister, who are now secretaries. The next morning Edwina leaves for Chicago and her Art Studio I go back to work at the Parke-Davis research laboratory. Now, all our money is spent and it will be another ten years before we will be able to again tour the world and see how our class- mates have progressed. d§Mm I, Carolyn Gross, will to Ann Johnson, 50 pounds so she can follow the precedent of Cass City having the largest cheerleaders in the league. This meeting is a scale model of the actual United Nations in New York City and is held annually. As Indian representatives Cass City delegates were very active. One of the members. Bob Johnson, ran for the office of President of the General Assembly, and so the first day was spent campaigning. Our members participated in speeches in the General Assembly and were active in various committees; they even brought forth a proposal on disarmament. Cass City's delegates added reality to the meeting dressed in their saris. Many months went into the preparation for the event. The members studied the background of India, Apartheid in South Africa, representation of Red China in the United Nations and many other issues on the 13th. session agenda. 57 Dian Cardew FRONT ROW: Left to Right; J.
