Presented by The Senior Class of 1955 . Cashmere, Washington This page sponsored by JAMES M. GREENE oneu md With the passing of time, the echoes of our school life will grow fainter and fainter, and then die away. Gone forever will be the routine of school life, the fun we had, and the friends we made. It is the hope of 1955 KA-HI-WA Staff that, as you glance through this book in the years to come, you will recapture those moments--and the echoes will begin again. 2 uedicdtCm We, the class of 1955 dedicate this book to our parents; whose quiding hands have helped to open for us the doors of knowledge. These doors have opened the way for us to meet life's challenges and now we leave to take our place as better citizens in our community. 3 BACK ROW (Left to Right): George Greig, Duane Mikkelson, Don Babcock, David Aldous, David Fritzvold, Karl Stoffel ROW TWO (Left to Right): Ann Peterson, Evelyn McKellar, Judy Boyer, Sharon Graves, Ramona Schober, David Balaban, Jackie Bartroff, Jerry Flagel ROW THREE (Left to Right): Deanna Hardin, Emmy Etzkom, Virginia Sanders, Gwen Zediker, Marva Phillips, Ina Grigsby, Janice Jaquish, Elaine Kugler, Deanna Newlove, Nina Grigsby FRONT ROW (Left to Right): Ron Fleisher, David Anderson, Gayle Jones, Dorene Johnson, Joyce Schell, Pat Yenter, Deanna Hawker, Sadie Keller, Marlene Deyon, Phyllis Kish. 1955 KA - HI WA STAFF ADVISOR Allen Adamson CO-EDITORS Pat Yenter Joyce Schell This page sponsored by: STEVENS LUMBER COMPANY The senior class would like to thank Mr. Genelle and the photography class for their cooperation and help in putting out the 1955 KI HI WA. This Page is sponsored by the ROYAL BARBER SHOP After just returning from a Reunion of the Class of 55 , I am just filled to the brim with information about each and every one of them. So just in case you'd like to know, here is what I found out. While walking up the steps, I bumped into a familiar-looking person and then I remembered DAVID ALDOUS. He told me that he and DAVID ANDERSON are co-authors of the latest best-seller The Fundamentals of Dating. Next, I happened to see MYRTLE BARNETT, and I found that she operates a Lonely Hearts Club in Seattle. She also told me that DON BABCOCK is running Arthur Murray out of business with his dancing in New York. While waiting to register, I picked up a science magazine and read a very interesting article by MAX GASTON, head scientist at Gaston Gaston Laboratories, with Mrs. Gaston as his assistant. I also saw a picture of BOB and DICK BAGLEY, who were posing for the ad, Which twin has the Toni? After registering, I went into the auditorium where I found BERNICE CHERRY AND JOANN JORGENSEN, new stars of the Heidelberg Harmonaires. They told me that another new celebrity from our class was ELMER JOHNSTON, who won an Oscar for his role of Bashful in the re-make of Snow-White andSeven Dwarves. Next, who should pass by me but DALE SPARBER, just recently returned from far Tibet, where his occupation is fish mongering. It seems he came by way of the Hellespont, where DIAN ULRICH is the ferry-boat operator. While on his way through France, he ran into LEONARD SATTERFIELD, who designs sweaters for particular French poodles. Oh, and I can't forget his outing to Maxime's in Paris, where PAT YENTER is the hat-chech girl. After talking to DALE, I overheard RONNIE FLEISHER going over his latest speech for President Eisenhower, which is a part of his job as secretary to the President. Next I heard a series of Rah Rah's and discovered LOUISE FISCHER and JEANETTE JENSEN making up a new yell as yell-leaders for the Medical Lake Football Team. They told me that they weren't alone there--THELMA SAMUELSON is employed at the staff psychiatrist. It was time for lunch, so I went into the dining room, and sat down, and sitting across from me was KENNY COFFIN, flashing a huge diamond ring, one that he obtained while in Johanesburg, South Africa, working as a diamond dealer. To my left was none other than SADIEKELLER, who had been a very busy worker as an interpreter between the United States and Russia. To my right, was GAYLE JONES, telling me of her campaign plans for election as first woman President of the United States. After lunch, we all went into the auditorium once again, and waited for the speaker BILLIE OLINGHOUSE, to arrive; she was touring the country at the time, giving lectures as part of her job as president of the Washington State Temperence Association. While waiting for her, GEORGE GREIG came in so I inquired about what he was doing, and he modestly told me that he was the top performer of Bungling Bros. Circus, in California. With him, was ELAINE KUGLER, Dean of the Holy Names Academy, a Catholic girl's school. When I asked where LOWELL SCOTT was, she told me that he was in jail, after being arrested for crashing Holy Names Academy, disguised as a janitor. When the speaker arrived, she was followed by many admirers, one of them being ROGER KING, who was recently named by the majority of women 31 a Washington Prison, The Man We'd Most Like To Serve Our Term With, With Roger, was MARVA PHILLIPS. She told me she was on her vacation from her job at Tiffiny's, as sales girl. She also told me that while stopping in town for gas, she noticed that Leo Cope's Mobile Station had been bought out by JACK RICHARDSON, who had renamed it Jackie's Jaguar Hospital . His partner up until a few weeks previous had been ROLLAND TODD. However, Rolland had been given a chance for advancement as the chief mechanic for the Aga Khan in India. So he pulled up stakes and left Jack alone. This Page is sponsored by FRANKIE’S APPAREL After the speech, everyone sauntered out onto the lawn and began talking in informal groups. It was then that I ran across GWEN ZEDIKER, who was busily taking notes to present to her women’s Democratic group in Arkansas. After talking to her I looked up and standing above me was DUANE MIKKELSEN. looking very fit--he had good reason to --he was the new star of Could This Be You ? Duane then brought over DORENE JOHNSON and kiddingly asked her to give a demonstration of her baton twirling, as she was the new drum majorette for the Wenatchee Chapter of the Salvation Army. With her had come VIRGINIA SANDERS and PAT DOGGETT, who were employed by the Royal Company as their official typewriter testers. I heard a voice over a loudspeaker and to my surprise it was PETER LOVE, who had taken over Mr. Adamson's job as sports announcer for C.H.S. games. (Last we heard--Cashmere ioo, Wenatchee 0) Peter was telling us that DEANNA HAWKER was wanted inside. LARRY CHAMBERLAIN, who was employed as soda jerk in the Cashmere Drug Store, (well jerk anyway) now soley owned by Deanna, had telephoned to say that everything was fine and for her to enjoy her vacation. After a lengthly discussion on the lawn, it was time to go back in.for the program, which was composed of various members of the class. First on the program was JUNE KERRISON, CHARLOTTE CRITTENDEN, CAROL FORTNER, DEANNA HARDIN, TOBY BOYER and EMMY ETZKORN, doing a novely number. These girls make up the new Sextet from Hunger. Next RAY TOWN, used submarine tycoon, demonstrated how to submerge a submarine by using a toy boat and a bucket of water. After Ray came MARGUERITE MCELROY, who went through her convincing commercial for Dial soap. The last on the program was MARLENE DEYON and her boy scout troop, who put on a tumbling act. Did we say last on the program? Better late than never was JOYCE SCHELL giving a heart-rendering solo on her violin. If you want to hear some of her talent, just tune in the Spike Jones Show, where Joyce is co-starring. When the program was over, and it was just about time to leave, another group of people came up to me. First go greet me was none other than those GRIGSBY twins. INA and NINA--they then told me of their positions as President and Vice President, respectively, of the New York Liar's Club. Next to say hello was ALAN BRENNICK, who had just been presented with the annual Farm In A Day, in Moses Lake, Washington, and STEVE BARRISH, who was able to attend the reunion because of a pass given him by his commanding officer in the Foreign Legion. When I asked where his pal DOUG COOPER was, they told me he couldn't get away from his job, as ditch walker on the Suez Canal. While getting into my car, I happened to notice a bright, new motor bike owned by LYLE GAULT, who had just won the title of Second Man to Go Around the World and Back on a Motor Bike. With him was JANICE JAQUISH, who was the new Cashmere High School Librarian, and SHIRLEY CAUDLE, who was home on leave from the Wacs. She signed up, probably, to follow Ted--however, we're not sure. As I was backing out of the drive, a large stallion caught my eye. I found out later that BARBARA RHOADES, owner of the largest stables in North America, had ridden it to the reunion. I also saw RON SIMPSON, who owned a chain of Simpson markets, PHYLLIS KISH, who built the famous Kish Photo Studio, and BOB DERIFIELD, who was really in the money, designing tombstones. Well, I finally started on my way home, and who should pass me but DAVID FRITZVOLD. On his car was a sticker saying OFFICIAL BOUNCER AT THE STORK CLUB, so I knew what he was doing. Riding with him was JIM DOLMAN, looking very proud, it seems he had been named by his community as Father of the Year . Still another car passed me and MARY STOLTENBERG waved and said for me to try to make her TV show later this evening, when she would model the Creamy Mud Pack. I noticed in the back of her car was SHARON DUNCAN, who later told me she was the proud owner of a dude ranch in Nevada, raising pigs, kids, and cain! She also said another classmate she often saw was HAROLD MALLIOT, the new owner of Harold's Club, in Reno. But as for BOB LAWRENCE, NOEL SUTTON, and LYLE DURLAND, they were seldom seen; they were looking for gold in the California hills. When I arrived home, I found a telegram from JOLENE MACDONALD, who hadn't been able to come, but she wished us well. It was signed--Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in Uraguay. Oh yes, one other person I forgot to mention--DEANNA NEWLOVE--who has just been expelled from the Royal Canadian Mounties because she’s now 35 and hasn't gotten her man. (tough luck!) Well, as you can see, Old Home Week turned out to be a very informative trip, and my mind is now at rest, as to what had become of all the old chums I knew at good, old C. H. S. The Bulldogs were sparked by nine seniors and a host of underclassmen. Coached by coach Elmer Cherry and assistant coach Don Pugh, the Bulldogs entered their first game without the aid of their start- ing quarterback Larry Pace, as he suffered a hip injury before the season opened. Pulling off an upset in their first and second game, the Bull- dogs were off to a roaring start; bu1 that’s as far as they got as they ran up against a tough Omak and Wenatchee team. During these games many injuries were suffered. From then on the season went on the rocks, although the team never gave up trying and came back with one more win before the season closed.
