FLAME The Official Yearbook of Casey High School 1984 1983 Flame Signing Party “Time Flies: catch it in a Yearbook was the Taylor '84 theme. Our staff carried this out by awarding four door prizes at the '83 Flame Signing party. The Bird's Nest gave two watches as free gifts won by Karen Maxey and Mike Allison. Gregg Burson and Lorinda Morgan won a free plane ride from Patchett’s. The students thoroughly enjoyed the singing and looking through the new Flames and chowing down on snacks supplied by the staff and soda pop donated by Goben's Stop and Shop. Perhaps there were problems, but fundamentally it's difficult to find the roses two years in a row. We fought hard, but Marshall was to defeat the Warriors in the final game of the season. The LIC Championship would again go to the Lions. Once more we look to the future and to a fine crop of junior and sophomore athletes. SENIORS — LtoR.R 1: P. Sidwell, T. Tiffin, (co-captains) R 2: M. The team is based on the top eight players and those eight are usually the ones that travel. One of their goals was to beat Robinson and they did for the first time in many years. Wishing does not make a dream come true and once again the Warriors were unable to win the coveted Little mini Conference Tournament. However, after a disappointing showing at the Holiday Tournament in Charleston, the Warriors were to win the basketball conference title, and the Regional before bowing out in the first game of the Sectional to Carmi. Led by Seniors Todd Shoot and Phil Brandenburg the Warriors were to find the flu bug bouncing from one team member to the next, and during the middle of the season the team just didn't have the strength and stamina to make it work. Talent rich perhaps, but not the touch — the Warriors have the potential to win it all. Next year could be fun if our team proves it has enough guts, desire and luck to do what many say they can do: Win Big!! 70 Freethrow Form Getting psyched up!!! Coaching. . . m It was happiness for the Warriors and their fans as our team won the regional. Led by the strong sophomore Jeff Finke, the Warriors were to fight hard and win this one. It was an exciting moment as one can tell by observing the victory picture taken at the left. 71 n The Gals The Lady Warriors were to have a season to remember. New coach, Terry Carrell had his work cut out for him, but he rose to the occasion and was to field a team that Casey was going to be very proud of. They were to be Number One again in the conference and in the Little mini Tournament. They were to fight gallantly against Robinson in the Robinson Regional, but were to lose. Thanks Coach and girls for a remarkable season. The joy of victory in the conference tourney. 72 Spanky sinks one for us! The Lady Warriors will lose Camille Ashley, Spanky Rankin, and Mary Lynn Dippold, but will retain Lynn Ramsay, Vonda Finney and a fine group of other underclassmen. Also, Dayl Ragon, instrumental in defeating them in the Robinson Regional, will join forces with the Lady Warriors next year. Next year looks good from our point of view. Go get 'em! However, the Jr. High students in large numbers turned out for action. The excitement of track is often only for the individual, but the rewards are many. The girls lightweights won the Coni, and Dist. The boys heavyweights won Conf. and Dist., and lightweights won Dist. At pass time. ToryKoss had broken school records in the 400 and 800 meter run; Amy Hedmark had broken the high jump record, and the 400 M. Relay team of Hedmark, Washburn, Kuhn and Koss had broken the school record. The boys 400 M. Relay team of Truelove, Rankin, Breese and Finke went to state.
