Warrior Basketball: Building for ’84 The Warriors began the season with a potentially talented and young team. Minus the basketball playing football players, the Warriors and Coach Durham turned to Junior Todd Shoot, Soph. Steve Philippi, and Fr. Tim Blair for leadership in the Thanksgiving Tourney at Newton. With other underclassmen and Senior Bruce Decker, the Warriors struggled. but gained some valuable experience. Returning home, the Warriors won four games in a row as Fr. Jeff Finke, Srs. Warren and Cummins, combined with Jr. Phil Brandenburg to show that Warrior Power was alive on the basketball court. With Shoot completing the starting five, this team began to put a full effort on the floor. However, our hopes for the conference and tourney championship faded. After losing conference games to Marshall and Oblong we bounced back and defeated Cumberland and Oblong in the Tourney, but ended up second to a talented and experienced Westfield. Going into the last month of the season, the Warriors needed to work on fundamentals; their fans now looked to the Regional and next year — as the eyes of the future fell on the hopefully broad shoulders of the '84 Seniors and the expectations of one Jeff Finke. The handslaps of togetherness! A Cummins' shot. . . And Brandenburg’s too
