The 1962 Flame Casey High School Casey, Illinois Foreword The theme we have chosen for this year's annual is our AMERICAN HERITAGE. Over the world today there is such criticism of America and her programs and policies. We want to show we are proud of our country and counter-act this negative attitude. In our own small way we are showing this pride in our country by our theme. Pictures of well known American Monuments and landmarks are on our division pages as symbols of our AMERICAN HERITAGE. Dedication It is with great pleasure that we dedicate our annual this year to Mrs. Jean Main. We hope in this way to show our deep appreciation for all the time and effort she has put forth in making our Home Economics Department one of the finest in Illinois. Her loyalty and enthusiasm in all school affairs will long be remembered at Casey In Memoriam IN MEMORY OF MICHAEL ARTHUR BAILEY WHO DIED JANUARY 28, 1962. Mike participated in basketball, track, and many other activities. You could always depend on him to fulfill his responsibilities. His cheerful attitude, goodwill, and friendliness will always be remem- bered by his many friends at Casey High. Administration “Ours is the only country deliberately founded on a good idea.” John Gunther Superintendent’s Message One of the most cherished heritages that an American has is education. The fathers of our country realized that If our democracy was to be established and survive, education of its citizens was necessary. One philosophy developed in America has been to educate all the children of all the peoplee-qually. We have set up our school system to meet this goal. Each school system has to develop a method to accomplish this; here in Casey we are meeting the challenge. Once you have acquired an education it cannot be taken from you. Each student should therefore work to receive the very best education we can offer in Casey. . Board of Education MR. BRUCE GEFFS, MR. ROBERT SHERWOOD, MR. D. E. McREAKEN, MR. LELAND MULLEN, MR. KENNETH SMITH, MR. RALPH LEE, AND MRS. DOROTHY JOHNSON. Principal’s Message To you, the Class of 1962, I wish to extend my congratulations and best wishes for a long, happy, and profitable future. May the pleasant memories, friends, and knowledge that you have gained here remain with you through the years. The school (faculty and administration) still waits to serve you if the need should arise. May the course that you choose to follow in the future be the right one and the goals that you have set for yourself be met. Patience, knowledge, desire, and hard work are the tools that you will need to accomplish these goals and build for our community another contributing member of society. CAST: Connie Trout, Rusty Jones, David Wright, John Williams, Noel Watkins, CONTEST PLAY THE CLOD by Lewis Beach At ten o’clock in the evening in 1863 in the kitchen of a farmhouse on the border between the Northern and Southern states, Mary is confronted with the greatest experience of her life. A Northern soldier, hunted by two Southern soldiers, seeks refuge in her household. The two Southern officers insult Mary to the point of murder. She endures many moments of horror and then turns on the two men. She takes the old gun from the wall and kills them both. This is an exciting play with well-defined characters, ably portrayed by students of Casey High School. Our American Heritage presented on TV program LET’S LOOK AT LEARNING ( WCIA ) February 11, 1962 by CASEY HIGH SCHOOL. ABOVE: Noel Watkins, Pat Hart, John Han-ners, John Williams. Spring Sports At the time when our annual went to press, our spring sports had not begun. Now, however, all of them are in full swing. The tennis team actually begins working-out indoors in the old gym right after basketball season ends. Matches with Olney, Paris, and several other schools have been arranged. The golf team is also very active, several matches having been scheduled. Our boys do their practicing on our local course, where some of their matches are also played. Our track boys have been very busy working-out and participating in various tournaments in this area. It would appear that this year's squad will be of a high caliber. Though our spring sports do not get the publicity often given some of the fall sports, the boys who participate are trying every bit as hard and should be given a lot of credit for their efforts.
