What did football mean to you in 1951? Did it mean playing on the team with long hours of practice and sore muscles ? Did it mean leading yells and cheering your team to victory? Did it mean selling hot dogs and cokes '? Regard- less of our part in the games we will never forget them. We will remember our disappointments when we lost, and how thrilled we were when we beat Robinson 14 to 12. Above all we will remember coach Tedrick's good-humored remark when the snow was too deep to play Marshall, Why we can't do that, we'd gain one yard and slide back five more. 46 F O OTBAL L SCHEDULE season or 1951 CASEY C. Those who were selling the paper might have likened the rush to a small toronado. Which articles were most popular would be hard to say. We know that the gossip column was read with much interest while others laughed heartily at the jokes, the lnquiring Reporter or Peggy Pix .The paper was read from cover to cover and then filed away Knot in a waste basketj and forgot- ten, except for the staff who moaned over their errors and then began working on the next issue. Those on the staff will always remember how late we were with our articles, and how we were warned at every meeting that next we must get our articles in on time or else--but then, we had heard that the last meet- ing too. What a time we had in getting the typing and mimeographing finished, but it was fun. We will not forget' the parties and the dances we had. With the money we made from the dances and the sale of the papers, we shared in helping the school to buy a new mimeograph machine. During the school year 1951-1952 the staff published the paper every three weeks instead of the usual six weeks. The sponsor this last year was Mrs. Violet Davis. 57 For years to come we shall remember all the fun we have had rn GAA Ther other organtzatton tn school that gave us as much fu get better acquatnted w th e was no n and as many chances to work play and 1 each other Perhaps some peo le roughfor gtrls and acttng unlad lk our p may have thought y 1 e buttf they had h meettngs whtch w us a lrttle ad a opportuntt t as held on Tuesda ferently y oparttctpate rn one o ys and Thursdays they would have thought dtf At every meettng there were new games to play and forty mrnutes packed full of fun' We shall never forget the tunes we couldn t ftnd all our clothes at the end of the pertod and had to hunt franttcally through lockers and wastepaper baskets for them We all took tt as a part of the fun Not only dtd we have fun at the meettngs but we planned other thtngs to do Such as parttes hrkes wetner roasts and every year we had a Chrrstrnas partyfor the grade school chtldren Each gtrl tn GAA brought a gtft and then one gtrl dressed up lrke Santa Claus and gave out the gtfts All four years we had a wonderful staff Thts year we had Maurtne Harrts as presrdent who dtd a wonderful Job of gettrng thtngs done Other gtrls who served to help her wtth the work were Shtrley Beeson Wtlma Stdwell and Patty Myers Also we had the help and leadershtp of our P E. teacher and frtend Mtss Iola Momburn :Fi Q k-RONJT ROW Joan Mtller Emtly Kelly Wtlda Yealtck Esther Walker Beverly Umbarger Patty Myers Maur me Hams Sponsor Mtss Momburn Shtrley Beeson Wtlma Srdwell Jtll Huddleston Joyce Whttson Margaret XN rlson Suzte Chrysler Wtnme Reed Donna Phtllppee Rose Marte Brosman FIRST ROW Joan Kaufman Allce Spencer Ixorma Kelly Wanda Hall Charlotte Greenwell Shtrley Gardner Lela Shobe Deanne Shrek Ruth Manntng Shtrley Shtels Norma Repp Joyce Wtlltams Treva Blankenbaker SECOND ROW Marion Endres Mttzl Bell Phyllts Htckox Ltna Sharp Deann Johnson Marlene Repp Roberta Turner Patty Luke Dons Haw ker Sharon Mtddleton Marcta Young Roberta Martin THIRD ROW Shtrley Mrtchell Phyllis Snawwer Shar leen Shafer Marlene Ramsey Jean Cox Eltzabeth Ragon Norma Elltott Joan Lamb Joella Brewer Carolyn Taylor Vlolet Yealrck Patsy Mathem FOURTH ROW Helen Lee Algene Hudson Sandra Delp Guyla lnskeep Donna Yelton Berntce Warner Donna Jean Orand Bexery Comer Berdena Rtchardson PatSpr1ggtns Martha June Iweal Irene McSchooler Betty Short Lrlhan Morey Martlyn Hurt Shrrley Htcl-cox Sue Emrtch 58 f . . Instead of listening to the president at the beginnings of each F. H. A. meeting, which met the first and third Wednes- days each month, we seemed rather to congregate in our small groups to talk about the date we were going to have that night or had had the night before. We wonder how the bus driver kept his mind on driving with all the talking and laughing that went on when we went to our F. H. A. rallies in different towns in our sections. We had so much fun at the watermelon party we always spon- sored for the freshmen at the beginning of each year so they Could get better acquainted, and certainly we shall not for- get about going caroling with the F. F. A. boys every Christ- mas. The memories of the initiation of the new members at the close of the first semester, and the formal initiation, which was so impressive and made us realize what mem- bership in F. H. A. meant, will long be remembered by all. Last year our president was Iris Schiver and our vice- president was Irene McSchooler. F. F. A. Afarmer's son is sitting in the A room beside a group of other farrner's sons. All are awaiting the arrival of Mr. 8 Boyer, the sponsor and Cassius Bensley, the president. In case neither one show up for the meeting Connie Tutewiler is already standing by for he is second in charge. Don Finney, secretary is there to take notesfor the minutes, and Leon Diller, reporter, will write any articles for the papers. Larry Crandell is ready to take club dues, and Keith Wattleworth is on guard at the door. As the confusion is settling they beginto think back to the days when they were freshman, b l ' F F A The twomeetings which the boys for they are seniors now and will soon e eaving . . . U probably enjoy most are the two initiations, one for the greenbacks ffirst year boysl and the formal initiation for Chapter farmers fupperclassmenl. Their memories of F. F. A. may be pushed into the back ground, for they will have a home and family to support, but the memories will never die. Memories pushed back or over-shadowed-but never forgotten. 60 Q- tl' 4.,,-1 Q4 JUNIOR The cast which did a marvelous job in giving this play was: Miss Groze, the secretary. . . . .... This year the Junior Class presented A Murder Has Been Arranged. This play, a unique mystery in three acts, had an unusual theme of black magic and terrifying effects with slight touches of comedy. The scene took place on the stage of the Saint James Theater, London. The time was November 16, 1951. This was Sir Charles Jasper's fortieth birthday and he was throwing a party on the stage of the theater. At eleven o'clock, Sir Charles was to inherit two hun- dred pounds--that is---if he was still alive. ,RQ SENIOR PLAY SEATED ON FLOOR: Marty Henderson, Mickey Knerium. SITTING: Jack Anderson. This is a tender and vigorous comic story of Father and Mother Day and their four sons who have a temperament to match their red hair. Father Day is the choleric household tyrant whose bark is considerably worse than his bite while Vinnie is the firm-minded wife who tries to keep her husband happy in spite of himself. The four sons add a great deal of merriment. Mary Skinner is the fiancee of Clarence, who is willing to marry into the Day family in spite of the explosiveness of her prospective father-in-law. Then, there is Cousin Cora, the girl who mades a profession of paying visits to relatives. 62 TEEPEE PLAYERS We shall remember the peels of laughter rolling out of a door upstairs with the number 28 on it where two Mondays a month the Teepee players had a session. In our first year the organization was called The Speech Club, but in our sophomore year it was reorganized under the name of Teepee Players. We think back on all the little skits and plays that were performed by the members, the plans that were discussed and carried out, and the fun we had in doing it all. We sponsored a few dances and parties, and took part in the choral reading contest every year. None of the Teepee players will ever forget the scavanger hunt in our last year that took us all over town and built up our ap- petites for the Chili supper which followed.
