Bliss Chickcring and Mrs. Red Star THE FAMILY CLI IC The Family Clinic is probably the most publicized aspect of WRU medical education. Each member of the class can recall relationships which have special significance to him. The day we first met our 'imotherv will probably never be forgotten by us. Perhaps the birth of the baby and our presence during 4'mother's labor will remain as an outstanding memory. Our first physical examination of the baby was a memorable milestone, Since these early contacts with the family, we have grown more mature in our own reactions to the patient and have become more aware of the elements which constitute the family unit. i'Doctor, I'd like you to meet . . 1 .

2 Students in waiting X FNQY We have seen the product of our anxious and unknowledgeable moments in the labor room grow into a complex organism confronted by doctors. nurses and parents. Wfe have seen this individual develop patterns of behavior in response to these and other forces. We will always remember the phone call from the mother saying the babyis sick and the cycle of telephone activity among our preceptor. the pediatrician and the family. When you think of the matching of eighty students to eighty families as the interrelationship of thousands of variables out of which meaningful relationships have developed. it is easy to realize that the Family Clinic is not merely a series of examining rooms provided by the hospital, but that it is the product of an amazing con- scientious effort by the staff to provide a top-notch medical education. We. the members of the class of 1961, appreciate this effort and hope that we will be better physicians because of it. Preceptor reviews lengthy family clinic chart
