PHI DELT EP ILO The Phi Delta Epsilon national medical fraternity is now in its fifty-seventh year. The local chapter IUpsilonl was organized in 1920. Throughout its existence it has attempted to bring its members a constantly varied yearly program. Parties and athletics are part of the activities planned. A program of education and service which has distinguished this chapter is offered through the year. Each Spring an outstanding nationally known medical personality de- livers the annual PDE Lecture. The fraternity also sponsors an annual series of Basic Science Revue Lectures by members of the faculty which are designed to review basic science information and cor- relate application of fundamental principles to clinical medicine. The frater- nity participates actively in many phases of service to the students and medical community. The annual Torald Sollman lecture is spon- sored by the fraternity in honor of the Dean Emeritus of the School of Medicine. This year's speaker was H. W. Magoun, who spoke on some of the newer concepts of neural pathways in the hrain.

The Kappa Chapter of Phi Rho Sigma, located at 11310 Bellflower Rd.. is one of twenty-seven national chapters. The first Phi Rho chapter and the national fraternity were begun at Northwestern iiniversity in 1890. The olijeciives of the fraternity are to promote good fel- lowship among congenial men of medical schools and colleges. to encourage a high standard of professional competence. and to assist hy every honorable means the advancement of its members. From the active memhers point of view. the fraternity provides many advantages. notably. excellent cuisine,', con- stantly improving accomodations. fine all-round second com- ponent fellowship. excellent opportunities for athletic com- petition. and much more.
