Winfred G. Leutner became President of Western Reserve University in 1933. He took his undergraduate work at Adelbert College from which he was graduated with the A.B. degree in 1901. From Adelbert, Dr. Leutner went to Johns Hopkins where he received his Ph.D. degree. His primary interests lay in the field of classical languages. As a result, he journeyed to Europe where he pursued intensive study in Rome and-Athens. On returning to Reserve he became instructor in Greek in 1903 and dean of university administration. As president he was confronted with the enormous problems of efficiently administering an institution so complex as this University at a time when Western Reserve, like many other non-profit organizations, was feeling the effects of a great depression. For his sound judg- ment and careful guidance throughout this period, we say Hats Off.
