iT THE CHIEF 2 DEDICATION We, the graduating class of 1983, wish to express our appreciation to Mrs. Linda Twomey for the dedication she possesses to her profession. We feel that she has taken a very special interest in her students during the past seven years she has taught at Case High School. She has shown patience, kindness and the willingness to help whenever needed. She is someone very special to us, and we wish her the best of luck always. 3 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE F A C u L T Y One of life’s Sweet mysteries” is that no one ever knows ahead of time those years that are alloted to each of us. One thing is certain, however - when a moment, a day, a year passes, it is gone forever and nothing can recall it. So it is with the years in high school, which, for our graduating seniors, are only memories now. For some these remembrances will be those of friendship and laughter, blended with academic seriousness. For others they will be bland and colorless. In Shakespeare’s words, however, ‘‘What’s done cannot be undone.” Nonetheless, there is a large, looming future awaiting all of you. Take the future and let it be yours; make the world and your place in it what they ought to be. Life is too short to tamper with the sweetness of moments well lived. Fondly and with best wishes always, David Jardin, Principal Gerald A. Furtado Vice-Principal Southeastern Massachusetts University M. To the faculty; The class of 1983 leaves its deepest appreciation and sincere gratitude for their tireless efforts in guiding and teaching us even though, at times, we did seem hopeless. To the Juniors, we gladly give, without reservations, our most prized and valuable possessions. Namely, our dignity, our importance, our knowledge, our intelligence, our popularity, and our good looks. Of these we have an unlimited quantity, and the juniors certainly can use them to good advantage. To our good friends the Sophomores, we give our patience and perseverance. They will certainly find these useful as the only means of enduring the juniors. Realizing that the Freshmen class will think that anything of material nature that we can give them is unworthy of their high standards, we give them only hope. We sincerly hope that before it is too late they will come down to earth and lose sight of their high opinions of themselves. To the young and bashful incoming Freshman of next year, we give the following sound advice. We hope that you will accept it as a guide to steer you safely through the awkward, gawky, dreamy, first year. Pay very little attention to the present Freshman Class. They just think that they know what it is all about. If you want to be an A student, just sit in the front row and pretend you know the answers to all the questions. Quite a few of these classes have had more than their show of success, but Joseph Case High School’s Class of 1983 has far surpassed the accomplishments achieved by any other institute of learning. Throughout the following pages I have attempted to bring forth and compile the data concerning the members of this class. I must admit that I had to cover many of the states and numerous parts of the world. As I boarded the plane owned by Stephen Boyd, Monique Vidal welcomed me at the door, and told me that she would talk with me later. Once we were up in the air, the pilot, Todd Martin made himself known. Monique finally found a few minutes to sit and chat. She told me that she loved her job, and that she had seen Susan Gray, who was now an executive lawyer and doing very well. As we flew over the race track at Indianapolis, Indiana, I commented to Monique that this was the place where Tony DiMascolo had risen to fame in the racing world. Motoring into the city in a taxi driven by George Rochester, I passed a beautiful mansion in Beverly Hills owned by Steven Rebello. As we drove along the coast, I couldn’t help but notice Ann Cardoza standing on one of the docks walking with all kinds of sonograph equipment. We had lunch at Alan Levesque’s pizza parlor, and she told me that her husband, Glenn Askew, was doing very well as a computer analyst. I stayed at the Tabicas Hotel, which was being managed by Priscilla Barboza. Priscilla told me that among her employees were Cheryl Levesque, Brenda Perdue, and Patricia Faria, who were all secretaries in the hotel office. After I was settled, I decided to take a walk to the gift shop to buy a newspaper. I glanced at a Playgirl Magazine and was not surprised to find Mark Pavao as the centerfold. Behind the counter was Beth Chace and Lou-Ann Vanasse (Chace) who were part owners of the hotel. The front page stories were about Chris Lopes’ second successful multi-million dollar movie, Greg Brock’s invention of the first hydro powered automobile, and Dawn Roy winning the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. The next day I decided to drive to Sun Valley to see the Olympic Games. I did not realize the speed that I was going, and before I knew it, I had a state trooper, Mike Beaudette, on my trail, who gave me a $30 speeding ticket. When I arrived in Sun Valley, I watched the Waterskiing Competition. The coach for the U.S. was Ann Kelly, and representing the U.S. was Tom Germane, who won the event with the best time ever recorded in Olympic history. The sportscaster for the events was the world famous Craig Wetzel. He announced that Karen Ferreira had just been awarded the highest honor ever given in the Volleyball Competition. David Vasconcellos and Steve Kenyon were big contributors to the U.S. Basketball Team. Linda Wagner won a Gold Medal for the obstacle course, and Nic Van Dogen for his tennis ability. The U.S. also won the hockey event, with Roland and Steve Martineau playing important roles on the team. After the Olympic Games, I decided to fly to Hawaii. As I drove to the airport, the disc jockey identified himself as being Geoff Swales. He announced that the President Mike Litchman, and the Vice President, Manny Williams, had together balanced the budget. The president also appointed Bill Walkden as Secretary of State, and Scott Moniz as Speaker of the House. 146 In Hawaii I was greeted by Debbie Bento, who was an exotic dancer there. The next day I visited the local hospital because of a sprained foot. On the way to the hospital I passed one of Steve Burton’s toy stores, and John Murphy’s drug store, where Chris Rezendes was the Pharmacist. When I arrived at the hospital, the receptionist, Trudi Lyne, showed me where to go. Walking down the corridor, I passed Dr. Janelle Rose’s office, and Dr. Melissa Ferreira’s office. I also ran into Margaret Champoux, Cheryl DeMarco, Erin McGough, Eileen Parent, Trade Rodrigues, Sheila Foltz, Pam Tavers, Cheryl Belloni and Melanie Gracia who were all R.N.’s in the hospital. I was referred to Stephanie Mello, whose specialty was feet. She told me that Kristin Patota and Laurie Saucier were both medical technologists in the hospital, and that Scott Ferneza was the head of the Psychology Department. Stephanie’s assistant, Patty Silva, escorted me ou t of the hospital. The next day, as I was walking along Main Street, I encountered a fortune teller’s house, and decided to go in. Rebecca Kells told me that I was going to have a safe journey without any complications. Next I went into Steve Paulo’s candy store. Later I ate lunch at Silva’s Crystal Room, owned by Eric Silva. I was seated by Elizabeth Guilmette, and my waitress was Donna Boragine. The bartender was Kim Lawrence, and the bus boy was Doug Giroux. I gave my compliments to the chef, Paul Duclos, and departed. On the way back I passed one of Pete Johannis’ super markets, which was now a worldwide chain. My next stop was Florida. At Disney World, I discovered that Goofy was actually Karen Cote, and that Mickey Mouse was actually Chris Rego. A new addition to the park was being built by Tony Perreira’s construction Co. The buildings were designed by Mark Bell and Robert Field. At the Kennedy Space Center, I found Bob Jacome, Ray Dube, and Lenny Russo getting ready for the next public space shuttle. The next day I went to Lisa Silva’s beauty parlor, where Christine Seymour and Lucy Gillet were also hairdressers. From Florida I decided to fly to Europe. On the way to the airport I passed Stacy Gluckman’s liquor store, and the law offices of Betsy Green. When I arrived in Paris, I was suffering from an incredible toothache. Luckily I found a dentist nearby. Dr. Colette Carpentier and her assistant, Lisa Turcotte, relieved the pain free of charge. Dr. Doug Doane also occupied an office in the building, however, his specialty was oral surgery. After dining at Nancy Martin’s gourmet restaurant, I decided to go to a nearby nightclub, where Joe Salpietro was performing. At the next table I ran into Bob Viveiros and Colette Taylor who were honeymooning in Paris. Shelby LeMaire and Renee Bookman, who were now international models, were also sitting across the room. Before I left for the airport the next morning, I did some shopping on the Champs d’Elysee. My purchase included a few of Jackie Cannon’s oil paintings, and a few pieces of pottery. While I was waiting to board my plane I picked up a religious magazine whose editors were Lisa Barboza and Lori Ann Cardoza. I arrived in England quite late in the evening, so I decided to get a good nights sleep and start my tour tomorrow. In the morning paper I read about the research of Dorie McKenna in the field of anesthetics. The chemical 147 test have proven very successful. In one test of 100 average patients, 101 succumbed to the spell of the sleep provoker. The 101st was the attending physician, Tom Kang. Dorie calls her technique “Loquacious ' Anesthesia”. I have always said she could talk anyone to sleep. After lunch I shopped in Cheryl Bernat’s specialty shop, which was designed by Beth LaPointe. I also visited a local school where Pam Ried was one of the teachers. The principal was Brian Antonelli, and the vice-principal was Scott Marciarelli. On the street I ran into the world famous baseball player. Bill Courville. He told me that his teammates, Brad LaBerge, Jason Khoury, Bob Ledoux, Scott McIntosh, and Jim Mohler were all doing as well as he was, and they were also making the same two million dollar salary that he was. He also told me that Todd Nascimento was now living in Yugoslavia, one of the few countries that still practices polygamy. The next day I left Europe bound for Texas. The first thing I did in Texas was to go to a football game. Anne Silvia, Judy Furtado, Paula Hickey, Mindy McCrae, and Anne Vieira were some of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. After the game I went to Mark Macedo’s ice cream parlor for a sundae. On the way back to my hotel, I passed one of the world’s largest computer companies. Inside I found Helen Saucier, Debra Tavares, Colette Taylor, Linda Viveiros, Cheryl O’Brien, Sheila Tavares, Anne Zimbro, Ellen Chace, and Robin Ferreira, who all held various important jobs in the building. I had supper in Mike Connell’s Italian restaurant. There I ran into Judy Viveiros, who was now a medical illustrator for Johns Hopkins University. She told me that Sandy Wilde was doing well as a social worker for a big hospital in Boston. On my way out the door, I bumped into Glenn Neto and Eric Krischke who were both Captains in the National Guard. The next day I decided to pay a visit to the big apple. I took in a broadway show, which starred Janet Silveira, Jim Santos, Karen Saylor, Elizabeth Swisher, John Ventura and Jean Dodge. The make-up artists were Kim Collins and Joyce DeCosta. The lighting director was Jeff Gonsalves, and the box office manager was Kathi Pacheco. The billboard on 42nd Street advertised the new James Bond movie, in which Sharon Viveiros was starring as Bond’s leading lady. On the way to Sak’s, I passed the law offices of Lucy Tavitian, where Kim Oliveira was employed as her assistant, and Linda Senechal as her secretary. On the way down 42nd Street, I passed Susan Alves and her husband, and Eileen Parent and her husband. I walked past the State Department of Public Works, where Paul Freeman, Jim Gibbons, John Raposa, Tim Santos, Dawn Schenck, and Holly Zorra were all employed as engineers. I thoroughly enjoyed the Radio City Rockettes show which starred Jennifer Atwood, Nicole Aubut, Christine Bellefeuille, Sheila Cayer, Joyce Dias, Lisa Honeycutt, Sue Laroche, Paula Pellerin, Cathy Pilkerton, Linda Prior, and Lisa Trudelle. On the way back to my room, I passed Bob Costa’s machine shop, where Joe Azevedo, Richard Biello, Glenn Camara, Bob Campatelli, Jeffrey Cowell, Francis Gagne, Anthony Mello, James Pelletier, and Donald Prior were all employed. 148 From my hotel room I could see John Parente’s auto repair shop, where Roy Ellin, Chris Jordan, Bill Lemieux, Chris Neville, Karen Soares, and Mike Tallmadge were all working very hard repairing cars. The next morning, I paid a visit to the New York STock Exchange. I boarded the subway at Grand Central Station, where I bumped into Amy Porter, who was now a stockbroker. On the way to the city I glanced at the New York Times, whose Chief Editor was Sharon Ayoub. The day’s news consisted of the recent success of Steve Moniz’s band, which included Joseph King and Michael Tavares. Lisa Carvalho also made the news for being voted Special Education Teacher of the Year. I stopped at the State Street Bank, to pick up some extra cash, where I was waited on by Mary Silvia. I discovered that Jill Buxton, Donna Silva, and Dawn Simmons were all secretaries for the bank, and that Diane Sokoll, Tina Souza, and Kellie Tafe were all bank accountants. On the street I ran into Jennifer Bates who is now teaching Biology at Cornell University. Kathy Camara and Lynne Cassamas are both enjoying the married life, and John Cabral and Roger Silva are enjoying the bachelor life. Lori Correa is now a worldwide know gymnast, and Melanie Figuerado a worldwide known basketball player. Ellen Estes is the conductor of the Boston Pops, and Edward Freitas is a champion roller skater. James Geldart and Richard Gibeau are both guidance counselors for the Swansea School Department. Betsy Gosciminski and Jean Higginbottom are also employed by the school department as elementary school teachers. Lori Pimental and Pam Jennings are enjoying the family life. Scott Lachapelle and Ray Howard are traveling cross-country on motorcycles. Sheila Kershaw and Vicki Martin are both Professors at UCLA. Tom McNamara has recently started a worldwide chain of White’s Restaurants. Lisa Pelissier is doing a lot of work for the church and the Peace Corps. I was told that Brenda Mello and Robin Renehan are traveling around the world. Kathy Sardinha and Robyn Shoesmith have also stepped into the inner circle of marital bliss. Frank Tabicas is a very successful business man. Matt Tavares and Sue Tetuan are pursuing their life-long dream of flying planes for the Air Force. Beth Travis has just been re-elected State Representative. Tammy Veloza and Dianne Tripp are now filming another movie in Hollywood. Well, I have finished my record of this class’ progress, and I have compiled my notes and writings and arranged them in such a way that they can be presented to the publisher for printing. On this morning of August 18, 1993, at the hour of 6:15,1 left for Boston and the publishing house. When I set out this A.M. there was a fog which impaired the breaking through of the sun’s rays, much like the obstacles the innocent new graduates were to face. In a matter of minutes, the sun’s rays broke through. This brought to mind the speedy, early success of the more energetic and precocious in our group. Before I entered the publisher’s house, the sun burst forth in all its glory and beamed down upon the waking world. Similarly, the hidden talents present among the alumni were finally brought forward, and the combined achievements enriched all humanity, with the same enlightenment and heart stirring warmth. 149 CANDIDS, CANDIDS, CANDIDS CANDIDS, CANDIDS, CANDIDS 151 1982-1983 POST OFFICERS Commander, Sid Boutin Sr. Vice Commander, William Walkden Jr. Vice Commander, Charles Whipp Jr. Vice Commander, Mildred Boutin Jr. Vice Commander, Albert Bouvier Asst.
