And what a time it was. It was . . . A time of innocence, A time of Confidences. Long ago ... it must be . . . I have a photograph. Preserve your memories; They ' re all that’s left to you.’’ - Paul Simon 135 CLASS PROPHECY YEAR 2000 Food shopping has to be the most boring task of all times, espcially when you have to wait in line so long that your icecream begins to melt all over the broccoli. After filling out five cards with hopes on winning an all-expense paid trip to Europe and around the United States, I was still fifth in line. The walk home was a rare one. As I walked past the bay, I saw Jonathan Barr and Peter Bedard in their sailboats. I waved but they were too busy to notice my gesture. After a distance, I walked past Robin Figuerado’s music school where I could hear someone trying unsuccessfully to play the piano. Running frantically to the curb in order to cross the street before the light turned again, I slipped and fell heavily fell on the sidewalk. My grocery bag followed my descent as its contents scattered around me. A hand was extended to me and I thankfully took it, but David Ploude continued to laugh at me. I brushed myself off as I cursed him for finding my accident amusing. Fie walked with me until we reached the Boys Club where he and Brian Platt were going to watch Lionel Frates in the boxing ring and Anderson Green practicing his excellent jumpshot. I cautiously continued my stroll through town. I unexpectantly met Dana Flayter coming out of the bookstore. He explained that he needed a book for his art class and somehow got carried away with other subjects, as he looked down at his armful of books. He informed me that Steven Barrette and Todd Rushton were in the class and Melinda Silvia was the instructor. As Dana and I passed a large white house set back from the others on the road, I pointed out that it was Debbie Bernado ' s. We decided to stop at a little coffee shop for a drink and catch up on the latest stories. We sat down on the newly upholstered stools which hardly complimented the worn counter tops. While waiting for our coffee, we talked about old times. Dana sid that he saw Gary Huntress at a seminar for computer programming, and that he was the leading advisor on the subject. Dana emphasized the fact that he did a lot ot traveling which reunited him with many old friends. He said he saw Joseph Freeman playing the piano at a big nightclub in New York City. He also added that during his stay in New York, he went to a Broadway show rehearsal where he met David Gonsalves. We finished our cold coffee and ended our meeting. From across the street, I could see someone waving in my direction. I waved back but I was still unsure who it was. She got into her red sports car and then I realized that it was Cherylle LeBlanc. I was still far from my apartment, but the pleasent weather made the journey more inviting, and less despised. I suppose everyone was enjoying the warm weather since I noticed Brian Medeiros, Billy Cowell, and Joe Raposa leisurely watching the busy street from the doorway of an empty variety store. I was going to stop and say “hello” when someone else caught their attention and they started waving frantically. I saw Dave Bessette and Jonathan Gauvin waving from the window of an extravagant Triumph. I smiled as they desperately tried to squeeze everyone into the obviously compact car. However, just like old times, they achieved the impossible. I walked past the park which was not crowded with people but with birds of every variation. I noticed a young woman throwing bread to her feathered friends who were joyfully flocking around her. As she rose from the park bench, it would have been impossible not to notice one another. She reacted so abruptly that the pigeons flew away with cries of despair. I wrapped one arm around her back as I clung to my bag of groceries. Cheryl Swales looked just as I last remembered her. We sat on the bench and talked about our lives. Cheryl was now a trop accountant for the Getty Oil Company and she always encountered at least one old friend while she was on business trips. She claimed that she saw Sue Provencal and Lisa Wetzel at an exclusive restaurant when she was in New York. She also said that she saw Lori Lockhart at a horseshow in the Midwest. Our conversation was interupted when a jogger nearly kicked over my bag of groceries. Luckily he stopped in time. Standing in front of me breathing heavy was Scott Nascimento. I don ' t know if he turned red because of embarrassment or surprise, but his face was as crimson as the shirt he was wearing. He refused to sit down, but he informed us between gasps that he was beginning his workout that would last until he was in satisfactory shape. Jeff Patota quit after one week of consistent workouts because of Scott ' s determination to begin right after a hard days work. Scott continued his marathon as we watched him silently jog out of sight. I left Cheryl after our farewells on the bench and picked up my bundles walked, with thoughts of jogging far behind me. I walked past the Variety Store which was profitably run by Charlie Fortin. Through the window I could see Charlie talking to Michael Ferreira at the counter, which was surrounded by inpatient candy seekers. It was already early afternoon when I saw Gerald Gagnon ' s “out to lunch” sign on the door of his used car lot. Teenage boys were observing a dark blue Mustang with approval in spite of the sign. I crossed the street and decided to stop for lunch at the little diner owned by Sandy Burton. Instead of the usual smell of delicious food streaming from the cuisine, the sign on the entrance explained the desserted atmosphere. Sandy was on vacation and what an awful time to go on one just when I ' m hungry. There were other alternatives so I made my way to the all- American McDonald ' s where I ate daily as a teeny bopper. I stood in line as I grudingly clung onto my package. In the next line, an obviously diligent worker stood covered with grime through his soiled mask. I realized it was Herbert Rego who would probably consume every morsal of food when his opportunity came. I finally recieved my order and I balanced it in one arm and clung to my groceries with the other hand. I surveyed the room for an empty seat. Kim Soares lifted her arm and signaled me to come sit with her. I made my way to her booth and contently sat with Kim. She was just sipping the last of her Coke when she told me she was in a hurry to pick up Dorothy Mederios at work. Crumpling up her bag and throwing it into the recepticle, Kim left. The hamburger was typical and ultimately tasteless. I condemned myself for not going to Kay Higson ' s for fish and Chips. Swallowing the last bite of the gourmet food, I retrieved my possessions and headed home. I saw Lisa Crapo coming out of the library chatting with Robin Marchand who listened with intent interest. I was surprised to see my old high school friend Judy Rochon across the street at an ice cream stand. I yelled to her but unfortunatly she couldn ' t her me because a truck came roaring by me at the same time. When it passed, she was no longer there. I would have tried to find her, but I was thinking of home, and those welcoming thoughts motivated my slow paces to quick strides. When I was home and all my food was put away, I went to the bookcase and rummaged past the French books and pulled out my high school yearbook. Seeing my high school friends put me into a mood of reminiscing. I sunk into my easy chair and started on the first page, but before I was halfway through the book I fell into a deep slumber. A phone rang and a shrill voice cut through the reciever “Cheryl Duclos?? You have won the all expense paid trip to Europe and around the United States??”. After several weeks of preparation, it was the day before my trip. I Still had a few errands to run and not enough time to do them. Before I left for the Beauty Parlor, I had to drop my cat off at the Animal Clinic in town. Fifi and I got into my 1984 Porshe and started for the city. As usual, something must happen to interupt my plans. Straight ahead was probably an accident, because there was a long line of traffic in which I was stuck in. I saw a policeman ahead and I signaled him with my hand. He came oer and I saw that it was John Ivarone. He told me that there was medical transport training led by paramedic Norman Lamonde. Albert Monte was contrilling traffic up ahead. We continued talking until the line of cars began moving ahead. I was late and wasted not time in getting to the clinic. As I pulled into the parking lot, I admired all of the new cars. I walked up the steps and noticed that the shingles labeled B. Boragine, R. Geldart, and S. Green flapping in the light breeze. I went into the brightly lit office and told the secretary that I had an appointment. She led me into a room where I was shocked to see Bev Slowe. She explained that Debbie Bragantine and her would have a permanent here after additional offices were added. She was temporarily taking Sue Green ' s place. I left Fifi with her and departed for my appointment at the Beauty Salon. As I was pulling out of the 136 parking lot. I encountered a construction truck with the names S. Mello and J. Lincoln brightly painted on the sides. I quickly drove to Le Boutique de Grande Rouge” where I would finally have my hair done. My good friend Donna Ryalls skillfully cut my hair while she commented on the achievements of her new partner but old friend Jill Tickle who was in the process of washing Dianne bagasse’s hair. Donna told me that Pat Levesque came in here a while ago and that she had a remarkably dark tan. Although she went to Florida as a secretary on a business trip, she apparently spent her spare time under the sun. With my new coiffure I started toward the garage where I would leave my my car during my vacation. Kevin McCabe assured me that he would take good care of it. I thanked him all the way home as he dropped me off. I excitedly ran up the stairs and into my apartment. I put my luggage near the door and skipped happilly skipped to the telephone. I called my neighbor Joan Faria and asked her if she could get my mail while I was away. She agreed. Now. all I had to do was call Napeau’s Taxi, and I would be on my way to the airport. Securing my home. I decided to wait outside. I started my trek, with luggage in hand, down the staircase. The taxi was waiting and blowing its horn. I put my luggage in and let my head drop back on the seat with exaustion. Although I was tired. I was attentive throughout the familiar ride to the airport. I had a quick glance at Dawn Skimiro and Stacey Holding walking down the sidewalk followed by three skipping children who were apparently enjoying the walk. They stopped to buy some fruit at the fruitstand which was owned by Guy Minkin who undoubtedly has the best green apples in town. Paul Lenon successfully kept all his sales in order at the cash register. I was just about to rest my head when a large donut at the end of a pole cought my eye. “Dumaine’s Donuts” was written in large letters under the gigantic pastry. Denise must have opened up her own bakery a short time ago because I never would have missed such an attraction. We came to a red light and an extremely noisy motorcycle pulled up beside us and I lowered my stare to the driver of it. Without a helmut. Alan St. Pierre sat dominately on his vehicle and raced off before the taxi got moving. In spite of my obvious load of luggage I was carrying. I tried desperately to look graceful as I walked aroung the airport until I found my destination. Chris Eaton was working at the next desk, but I couldn ' t get her attention, so I decided to wait for my return to see her. As I was boarding, I thought I saw Shelly Kimball and Nancy Mitchell boarding a plane for Hawaii. After the seven hour plane ride to Paris, France, I finally saw the Eiffel Tower. Finally through with the usual procedure at customs, I searched for my hotel. It was nice to be here on a vacation rather than as an interpreter on a business trip. I decided to go to the Eiffel Tower after settling myself in my hotel room. Knowing my way around Paris I went directly to the well-know tourist attraction. As I was in the gardens surrounding the tower, I noticed a crowd of people gathered around something obviously interesting. I joined the crowd and saw that it was a model passing in a field of flowers. When she turned her head in my direction I almost fell into the people in front of me. It was Jane Coffey! I wanted to talk to her but it was impossible to even try to make my way through the mass of onlookers. I decided to try and look her up later. After my afternoon at the Eiffel Tower I started walking in the direction of the Seine River. From where I was standing I could see a line of artists along the shores which was a picture in itself. I giggled to myself when I saw only one artise without a beret as if he was trying to display his mass of red curls which seemed to hang loosely off his head. I walked nonchalantly toward this particular painter and stood directly behing him. When he continued painting I started conversing with him in French. He turned slowly, and his eyes opened as wide as saucers when he saw me. Seeing Jane Coffey and then Michael Gluckman in Paris in the same afternoon was more than one could handle. We just stood in shock for a moment. Then I departed after convincing myself that this was really happening. I had to leave for Switzerland the next morning, and after all the typical procedures I was finally relaxing in my Swiss hotel. My first thought was to get some chocolate but I decided to go visit the “Clinique of Miracles”. The hospital was so large with unbelievable cleanliness. I walked around cautionusly not wanting to be a disturbance, but stopped when I noticed a familiar name engraved on one of the large wooden doors. I knocked softly and a muffled voice said to come in. She was speaking to someone in french and when she turned to face me, she smiled and the evidence was apparent; two dimples appeared on her face. It was Charlene Durand, who was now the head physical therapist. She and Sue Shaker were assigned the job here but Sue had found a better offer back im America. We spent the day together and then I left because she had to bet back to her work. The following day consisted of the usual preparations, and I looked forward to going to Salsbury Germany. I was really curious about the schooling here, since medical students from all over the world desired to study here. The Medical School was not what I what I expected. It looked like any other medical facility. I opened the library door for a students who was piled high with so many books that she was temporarily blinded. All at once the books crashed to the floor and they were scattered everywhere. I started helping her pick them up and when I gave her the last of the books we came face to face for the first time. When we did, she dropped the books again, but this time it was on purpose. Cheryl, or should I say Dr. Dias, was hugging my joyfully. We left and talked for hours about our lives. I wanted to stay and talk forever but I had to leave for Italy the next day and I wasn’t organized as far as my hotel arrangements for that night were concerned. We parted the best of friends as usual. Italy was so beautiful, and the weather was pleasant, so I decided to eat my lunch on a veranda overlooking the little towns. The food was delicious and I asked if I could complement the Chef myself. When he came out balancing the dessert on his raised arm. Clad in a white apron, Richard Berard came waltzing out with a tray full of goodies. When he put them down and recognized me he sat with a thud and laughed. We talked all afternoon. He informed me that Lee Pontes owned a night club with a show and dancing girls, right down the street. The atmosphere was so wonderful in Italy but I had to leave for England wfiere I would spend two days at my leisure. England was not exactly what I expected. I was not enveloped in fog, but instead the day was so full of sunshine that I went out for a stroll immediately. After walking a while I stopped for a moment and I observed a tall building made of glass. It seemed almost gilded as the sun reflected the surface. I was curious about its purpose, so I approached the granite steps that led to it’s many entrances. 1 went inside and read the bulletin boards which informed me that this was a building set up for scientific purposes. I took the elevator to my once desired field of Chemistry. I walked down the halls softly trying hard to avoid the echoing sounds of my heels. Name plates appeared on each door and I noticed that one door a Large “danger” sign on it. I preceded cautiously toward the door and was startled at the names of three Chemical Engineers; D. Cross, D. Conroy, and E. Erickson. Before I was finished rading the last name, someone cleared their throat behind me. I spun around quickly and the woman was in the middle of saying something but she stopped abruptly. It was Kelli Medeiros. She stood in front of me with her mouth open. We talked so quickly that neither one of us got much accomplished. That night I layed in bed thinking of the incidents of the afternoon. Kelli owned the whole complex and she deliberately hired her three high school friends to add to her success. She was now trying to convince Cindy Davis to join the trio. The next day Kelli and I went to the theatre. We were amazed at the performance we witnessed. We wanted immensely to meet these touching performers. Although we were backstage, their actual features weren’t clearly visable because of the make-up. I went up to the actor and complemented him on his acting abilities. His eyes opene d wide with happiness as if he was not aware of it. He hugged me and his acting partner came to his side and quesioned his surprized behavior. He pointed to me and she was apparently effected by my presence. When they washed off the make-up from their faces, I realized why they behaved as they did. Mike Pires and Judy Pacheco stood grinning before Kelli and me. Before they could be interrupted, they pushed us out the door as they followed behind us. We had dinner together and vowed many times to keep in touch in the near future. 137 My European Holiday came to an end and my tour of the United States began in Hollywood California. I was excited about going to one of the big film studios. I went with a group of other tourist, and they were more delirious than I was. We walked through different rooms and saw various sceneries. The wardrobe section was to vast to be believed. In the middle of the floor sat a young woman skillfully sewing a gown. I stared at her quickness, and admired her work. She looked up and at the same time stuck her finger with the needle. I just yelled her name out loud as if she was not in hearing distance. Mary Barboza cast aside the garment and ran to me with a smile as beautiful as I could rmemeber. She told me that Brian McCann was taking a vacation and that he was expected back in a couple of months. She also said that she saw Pat Kelliher in the Disco, but it was too noisy to talk. She didn ' t have much time to talk but she said that she would tell Brian that I was here. We rode to Las Vegas, Nevada the next morning. I couldn’t wait to test my luck at the Casinos. I was not surprised to see Mario Antonelli contrilling the billiard table with a tall brunette cheering him on. Nancy Holderness was making her singing debut at Caesars Place which turned out to be an outstanding show. After my defeat at the Casino I was welcoming the departure from that city. After riding lazily throudh the Arizona desert all day, the sight of a city in Colorado was welcoming. It was still under construction and the sign Nguyen and Tavares” explained its architectural beauty. When we finally settled ourselves in a nearby city, I took a walk to a little inn where I could relax while I ate. In the corner I was sure that I saw Joe DeNardo and Nancy Viveros, but I wasn’t positively sure until they recognised me too. We talked, and they told me that they were taking a second honeymoon. The following day was so long and weary. We drove for hours until we arrived at a little town in New Mexico. I refused to sit in my hotel room, I needed some movement tonight. I went to a nightclub where there was a little band featuring lead drummer, Mark Rodrigues, who was unfortunately ill. However, I enjoyed my evening out on the town. The next day we were supposed to go watch a horse show in Oklahoma starring Laura Hall, but there was a tornado warning so we skipped it all together and decided to go off schedule and go to Texas. We rode through the desert until we came to an unbelievable modern town. We stayed at a lodge where we swam in the cool waters of a pool all day. As we were checking out, I saw the name Dr. Daniel S. Rose” in the check-out book. Like most doctors, he was probably here on vacation. We didn’t go very far that day because our bus broke down. We were fortunate however to ge t help from Thompsons Garage” which was owned and led by Mark himself. We didn’t get a chance to see him though. Since we were not following our designated schedule any longer, we had no other choice but to go directly to Louisiana where we would welcome the relaxation and warm sunshine. We spent most of the day at the ocean. Harbored in one of the ports was a rugged ship which was apparently used for deep sea work. Written in fading yellow paint was the name Lyons” on the ship’s bow. Curious to find out if it was really my high school comrade, I walked hesitantly down the planks to assure myself I wouldn’ fall. I came upon a woman leaning over the warf, trying desperately to recover a net she lost to the sea. She got up furiosly and almost banged into me. We both were stunned. Facing me was Marie Daigneault who was a marine biologist. She assured my that it was Pat Lyons’ shop and she was working on it in order to complete studies of the ocean. The ride to Florida was sticky and uncomfotable. We all agreed that the beach was the most inviting thought. Laying on the hot sand with the cool seas spray delightfully shocking my body, my repose was soon interrupted by the downfall of a wandering frisbee. The retriever appeared and I thought I had symptoms of sunstroke because Don Simonetti stood beet red in front of me. We had lunch together and he told me he was on vacation, away from his operating room. He also commented that Wendy Souza was working successfully in the Key West Islands of Florida as a Marine Biologist. He said that he had talked to her on the plane to Florida. We rode for a few days making frequent stops at fast food restaurants and inns. I really wasn’t too thrilled about going to Washington until I saw Marie Gerdron at the white house ready to interview the President. We all wanted to shorten our stay in Washington, so we started our expedition to Philadelphia. I was stunned to discover that Lou Serio and Lisa Amaral were the top two lawyers in the state, and perhaps in the East Coast. However, I was not surprised to hear that Elaine Russo’s literary excellence won her the Pulitzer Prize for Literature for her new book on law. My day went by quickly as I tried to get in touch with at least one of these highschool mates, but my mission failed. The drive to New York was a short but interesting one. We went to a broadway show starring Dianne Neronha. I went backstage after the production and found Joyce Lyon arranging Dianne’s hair. I couldn’t talk to her because she was being interviewed by reporters. We waited outside trying to avoid the fog of cigarette smoke that accumulated inside. I was leaning against the No Parking sign when a black limosine pulled up in the zone. I didn’t move my head, but I let my eyes wander to the back seat where a tall man stepped out. When he looked up, I had to secure my grip on the post, because I was sure I was mistaken. Joe Carreiro closed the door lightly behind him and stood before me. We walked inside and had a good meal while we exchanged thoughts. In spite of the fact that we had to leave early the next morning for Boston, I stayed up late and listened to Joe’s stories about his immense fortunes and his determined accountant, Kathy Wagner. The bus ride to Boston was a familiar one, so I slept for most of it knowing I wasn’t missing much. They dropped us off in the Boston Garden where I looked up at the old building which still stood erect. I decided to go inside and see if any revisions were made. I walked inside where I heard the scraping of skates in the ice-arena. I was hoping to talk to the Bruins star defenseman, Jeff Curry, but I noticed it was a practice for the Ice Capades. I wondered if Paul Merdes was out there, but I couldn’t disturb these performers at work. I walked around Boston for most of the day and I visited Linda Bassett who was operating the radio station nearby. We went out for lunch in a little French Cuisine where we saw Joyce Laferriere and Debbie Pellitier. I got up from my table ; . . . . . Startled by the ringing of the phone, I jumped out of the chair sending my yearbook to the floor. Before I was fully awake, Gisele Petit was on the telephone wondering where I was. I forgot that we planned to walk to town together. I told her I’d be there soon. Everything was so close by that we usually walked when we had things to do, especailly on a nice day. I went into the hospital where Gisele was talking to Dr. Rayna Griffin. Dawn Haydock was listening to their conversation trying to ignore the ringing phone on her desk. Since Gisele was the head nurse, she was responsible for all transactions involving her line of duty. She was discussing the possibility of allowing Nancy Beltran, another highly skilced nurse, to assist her. I sat down and started reading the newspaper which contained the same violence and destriction. The only decent material to read was the fact that Chris Aguiar was promoted another 25,000 dollard to coach at U.C.L.A. Michael Hallal won ano ther race in Australia, but that was expected. And Steve Fernandez made another nuclear discovery. I looked up to find that Dr. Mike Foley, the head psychologist, had joined the little gathering. After solving the problem, Gisele and I walked out into the welcoming sunlight. She said that physical therapist Kelly Ridhmond and medical secretary Karen Pineault had to be transfered to a different hospital. We passed the high school where I would be speaking later that evening about my particular career. Just as we were passing the street, we saw Lisa Pontes who was just hired as the special education teacher. She was talking with math teacher Terri-Ann Farias, who has worked there for years. We passed the computer program building with the names D. Young and C. Beliveau boldly printed above the door. 138 As we were walking I told her about my dream and she was surprised when I didn ' t mention David M. Mello being one of the engineers since he was definitely the best one around here. Gisele went into the bank so she could cash her check, She met accountant Shirley Nunes as she was coming out. Now that she had her money there was no stopping her from spending it. We were startled when someone pulled up behind us and tooted the horn. We turned to see Sue Kerr sitting in her Mercedes Benz. We slowly got in trying to avoid scratching or dirtying the beautiful car. She informed us of John Boisvert’s big hit as a stockholder and with Lisa LaChance being his accountant, she got a share of the 65,000 dollars. Sue had a beautiful house which was presently being re-decorated by Lynn Vallani, who also did the interior of Debbie Murray’s log cabin and Michelle Lefebreve’s music studio. She dropped us off at the dentist’s office where Gisele had to pay her bill. Lisa Laforce took the check, but I was dissapointed not to see dental hygeniest, Sharon Carpentier, at work. We started for the piano studio where she unfortunately had another one of her many errands to run. Sue Barrow greeted us while she was trying desperately to teach a young boy how to gently touch the keys. The door opened again and three blonde girls skipped in, and mother Cynde Laroche followed close behing. I talked to her while Gisele rummaged through her purse for her last month’s receipt. When were were finished with that ordeal, we decided to go shopping and call it a day. We saw Joanne Kelly and Sue Chace in Newport Creanery, but they were too busy licking their cones to see us. Jennifer Silvia opened up her own shop with crafted goods, and it looked like she was fairly established. With a load of packages each, we started our journey home. There was a new building being constructed, and little did I know that Karen Simcock and Alane Duckworth would soon be opening their own art studio. When I arrived at my home, I let my packages fall on the coach. I walked slowly into the kitchen to get something to drink. I sat down and decided not to get comfortable because I had to get ready for my speech at the high school. The sun had set and the chill surrounded me as I walked to the school. The neon signs were glowing in the distance, as I saw F. Latessa” gleaming in red. She was presently in charge of a secretarial school which was built and inspired by Antero Diniz. Toni Viveiros was also one fo the teachers there. As I was thinking, I was not aware of my direction and I almost stepped on a small, shaggy, brown dog who was unfortunately on a leash. With muffled apologies, I slowly looked up at the undoubtedly suspicious woman. I almost chocked on my last apology when Karen Ross stood before me. I patted my dog as I explained my reason for the unexpected collision. She assured my that everything was fine. Ironically, she had just brought the dog from the animal clinic where she met Remona Lewis and her pet racoon. I asked Karen if she was ever reunited with any of our high school comrades. She nodded with a smile and told me that while she walks her dog, Chris Waring usually walks with her. Sometimes she sees Kelly McGough and Sheila Simcock at the mall where they are usually occupied with bulging packages. Karen decided to change her route and walk with me. She was visiting here and she only lived across the bay, so she was familiar with this city. She pointed out a large luxurious apartment in which Renee Silvia was temporarily living in because of business purposes. I pointed out a little bar and told her that it was usually filled with old friends who came back for a little reunion. The other night Charlene Dionne, Eugene Merithew, and Donna Cabral put an advertisement in the paper, and several people showed up. Karen said that she was present at the little gathering and she heard that I was out of at the time. She said she talked to Rita Santoes who just moved into town with her husband and family. Jeff Oraindo and James Caron were also there, but they left in a hurry after they told Karen about their demanding jobs. Karen decided to turn back and we agreed to get together soon. As I walked into the school, Cheryl Dionne, the photographer for the local newspaper, was taking pictures of the speakers. Paulette Boulay, the journalist, assisted her with a story. I found out that Brenda Hyland was a business teacher at the school and Lisa Syoub taught Biology. As we walked to the auditorium, I noticed bronze name plates on the office door which read: Sue Lebreaux Lynn Martin - Secretaries. Before the ceremonies started, each speaker was introduced to the group. I was surprised to hear that Mark Machado was the Physics speaker and Cheryl Chadinha was the spokeswoman for Physical Therapy. Millissa Correa was there to represent the views of a Medical Secretary. The night finally came to an end, and it was obvious that we were all eager to get together again. We decided to go out to eat and talk about old times. Cheryl said that she had come in contact with Linda LePage and Deb Vieria since the boy she was trying to rehabilitate needs social workers desperately because of his constant suicide attempts. Mark added that while he was in California, Billy Arruda was stationed there with the army. He said that his brother, George, hit the lottery for 50,000 dollars and is now vacationing in Monte Carlo. Mellissa worked with Debbie Graham for a while, but Debbie left to get married. I thought to myself, “I suppose nobody sticks around anymore,” as I sipped my pinacolada. John Couture moved to Bermuda, Roberta Germaine married a brain surgeon and fled to Canada. Shelly Sharves and Doreen Suprenant were married, also. Mark interrupted my thoughts when he continued the conversation by saying that he went to college with Roy Furtado, but he went south to pursue his future plans. That thought rang a bell as I remembered Shelly Ledoux on campus, although I couldn’t remember what she was doing, now. We laughed as we finished our meal with images of David Sullivan owning a harem, or Lisa Williamson being the head of a business that manufactured saddles. After our meal, we went to Rego’s Regime where Tom provided a relaxing atmosphere. We saw Dave Beaudette and Jim Raposa sitting at the bar talking to Tom. We joined them and they were surprised to see us. They were waiting for Joey Hall to get out of work, and then they would all relax together. We complimented them on their appearance, and they informed us that Dickie Travers personally sold them the outfits from his clothing store. I did not surprise us because Dickie was the best dressed senior guy in high school. Julia Baker helped him in his success as his secretary. Tom laughed when he told us that Dickie made half of his money when Arthur Lopes bought a new wardrobe for his business trip to South America. Jim interrupted him to tell us that Ken Berube worked with Arthur, but the subject was changed when Dave asked Mark where he was living. Mark said that he lived in Maine, but he decided to move because of the job opportunities. With a mouthfull of crackers, he finished by saying that Pam Surette was presently living up near the University. Tom suggested that he turn on the television so we could watch Child Psychologist Colleen Murphy make her debut on the Merv Griffin show. I nodded to myself as I remembered watching Kelly Lowney, public relations expert, make her appearance on the Good Morning America show. As we discussed memories of our high school years, I glanced out the window at the neon sign that advertised Fiddler ' s Gas Station and I stared at in unconsciously. I daydreamed as the group exchanged past aquaintances concerning old friends. I learned that Geary Hall and Keith Camara were co¬ owners of an auto body shop in the city, whild David E. Mello was in the same business in another city. Craig Honeycutt, Kevin Luongo, and Debbie Desruisseaux, were last seen traveling with a Tourning Company. Sue Booelho left the group to further he education in Theatre. After the show, we decided to leave. We said our good byes and went out separate ways as we did once before. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. ■f ?
