Joseph Case High School Swansea, Massachusetts The Chief Volume XXXIII Advisor — Mr. Francis Kelly Co-editors — Brian Gregory Lynne Miranowicz Do you know where you’re going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to, do you know? Do you get what you’re hoping for? When you look behind you there’s no open door What are you hoping for, do you know? Once we were standing still in time Chasing the fantasies that filled our minds And you knew how I loved you but my spirit was free Laughing at the questions that you once asked me Do you know where you’re going to? Do like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to, do you know? Now looking back at all we planned We let so many dreams just slip through our hands Why must we wait so long before we see How sad the answers to those questions can be? Do you know where you’re going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to, do you know? Do you get what you’re hoping for? When you look behind you there’s no open door What are you hoping for, do you know? 4 Table of Contents Dedication Seniors Faculty Administration Underclassmen Activities Sports Features Bicentennial Ads Patrons Dedication To Our Good Buddy, The students of the graduating class of 1976 dedicate this edition of “The Chief” to Mr. Kenneth Adams in appreciation of the friendship and knowledge he has bestowed on us. It is difficult for a teacher to realize that he can gain respect and maintain discipline, and still be a friend to his students. This has always been his goal, and he has indeed succeeded. Our Good Buddy is known throughout the school for his twinkling smile, laughing eyes, and warm, humble wit. As we grow into adulthood, let us strive for those intangible qualities and practices Our Good Buddy has employed in his life, and may we reach an understanding of ourselves and the world around us with the faith and beauty that Mr. Adams constantly serves as an example of. To our everloved Albagoose Adams, Thank You. 6 To The Graduating Class Of 1976 During the past decade there has been a constant controversy in regard to the amount of emphasis that should be placed on student rights in relation to student responsibility in our schools. As the pendulum has swung disproportionately toward rights over responsibility, the concern about discipline in schools has become more and more pronounced. Discipline, both external and internal, is generally accepted as being the nucleus of achievement and the decade or so of permissiveness has taken its toll in this regard. As you go on toward new horizons and are able to take a more objective look at your years of elementary and secondary schooling it is my hope that you will do all in your power to effect a change back toward the middle of the road approach to student rights and responsibilities and the idea of “doing what is right even when it is inconvenient.” I hope that your years here have been fruitful and that you have taken advantage of all the offerings available. We, as in life outside of school, can only provide the opportunities but you must be responsible for taking advantage of them to the best of your ability. I wish you all success and happiness in your future endeavors. “Your education begins when what is called your education ends.” — Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Charles R‘. Loverin Best Wishes in all future endeavors. Paul F. Monahan 10 Susan A. Albernaz 8 Macomber Avenue “Sue” DECA; Sec., A.A. George Alexandre 10 George Street A.A. Remember me when no more, day by day, You tell me the future you have planned; Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for awhile And afterwards remember; do not grieve; For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad. 35 36 , I? -• Administration Mr. Edward J. A good marching band generates and enhances much of the spirit during the football season. We are sure that as long as Mr. Moniz continues his position as band director, Case High will always have a marching band to be proud of. 73 Majorettes Donna Lynch Head Debbie Williams Peggy Riel 74 Karen Tracy Jane Griffin Debbie Larner 75 F 1 a g T w 1 r 1 e r s Ellen Desrosiers Sue Ouellette Peggy Kimball Lynn Gregory 76 Debbie Cabral Sandy Alves Michelle Bouchard Lois Laprad Fran Haydock — Head ;- x Cheerleaders Linda Bento Joan Berard Susan Andrade Donna Estes — Head till l j i f 1111 1 V- i xi ?• ' WV ' Ww, H .‘I VT 1 !- f “XrWR ' i. wflJUDki v-v - ' v v A • , «Vy? «-. v, - Harriet Hodkinson Robin Hodkinson 78 Deborah Hydrick Linda Pettine Louise Tharret 79 Chorus Piano — R. Approximately 120 students projects from various fields of science, such as meteorology, biology, chemistry, physics, and electronics were displayed for parents, friends, and fellow students. Capturing top honors with his project entitled “Gas Chromatography” was David Reiser. A Case High Junior, David constructed a gas chromatograph which helps analyze and identify volatile substances. ija Second prize winner was Case High Sophomore Priscilla Hayden who investigated the possible use of the male hormone testoterone propionate to induce a male coloring pattern in female goldfish. Laurie Stiles won third prize with her project entitled “A Study of Grantia”. Although a very common sponge, Grantia has only recently become a topic of interest to marine biologists. 134 135 the blind leading the blind Jh -vf Let ' s hear it for the band! 136 137 Christ Church, constructed 1898-1900 138 Library, dedicated Sept. 19, 1900 139 Harvey 140 mmmrn 141 142 Hey, what’s the answer to number 7? It’s a gold-plated megaphone dangling from a dainty chain. It’s buying all the latest fashions, then baby-sitting. It ' s meeting friends, watching the winning touchdown and experiencing the thrill and sweat of a locker room after the struggle. High school is cramming for an exam that you ' d rather forget. It ' s a shiny bronze ring that catches the light and a charm bracelet with scattered memories. High school is growing up, and growing up is wishing you were young again. —Suzanne Branciforte, East Rockaway, N.Y.
