Dedication While most teachers are content with conventional subjects taught using purely conventional methods, Mr. Austin J. O’Toole stands distinctively apart. To some, his classes are strangely unorthodox and perhaps even ridiculous, for the grammar, drama, novels, and poetry of “traditional” English courses have been abandoned. They are replaced by subjects which go far beyond the high school and even the realm of literature to life itself. OT comes staggeringly close to a true meaning of the word “teacher” as he prompts others, while giving of himself, to think and to seek beyond the superficial present. The 1969 Chief is dedicated to him, not merely to fill up space, but because he is a special person whose knowledge and influence, like the skylark in this poem by Shiki, will remain when that of others has been crushed and forgotten. Treading the clouds , inhaling the mist: a soaring skylark. Mr. Austin J. O’Toole 6

IfV! F oreword Four years have passed too quickly, leaving only memories. There was a time for everything while we were at Case— a time to learn, a time to laugh, a time to live. The days were filled with work, play, tension, excitement, and sorrow, and we grew. Yet our growth cannot readily be measured, for each of us took our own meanings and answers from the experiences we shared. Time moves on and so must we move with it. The class of ’69 will break apart and each of us will go our separate ways. But in the pages of this yearbook, in the priceless moments of youth cap¬ tured by a click of the camera shutter, we will be together, and the time that was 1969 will remain forever. V
