s u e r ♦ i n t e n e n t f s PUBLIC SCHOOLS Swansea, Massachusetts donald f. McCaffrey Superintendent Office Of Superintendent JOSEPH CASE HIGH SCHOOL OSborne 8-8326 To the Class of 1963: » It is indeed a pleasure to write my first message in ' The Chief. As seniors leaving school full of enthusiasm, brings to mind the second stanza of Masefield ' s Sea Fever I must go down to the seas again, for the class of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied? And all I ask is a windy day w ith the white clouds flying. And the flung spray and the blown spuijie, and the sea gulls crying. Your future pathway will be likened to an ocean voyage. It is my earnest hope that yours will be spent in the bright sunlight of life, but fear not- as troubled seas move in from time to time to haunt and worry you. -The excellent training of your teachers, parents, and clergy will enable you to avoid the reefs and enable you to navigate the angry seas to the calmer waters of success and happiness. Bon Voyage ' . e s s a 8 e s

I c e r ♦ i n c ♦ i P a I i s PUBLIC SCHOOLS Swansea. Massachusetts JOSEPH CASE HIGH SCHOOL OSborne 8-8326 HELEN A. REAGAN, Principal To the Class of 1963: In keeping with the nautical theme of your yearbook I call you to attention as would a boatswain on a ship. Now hear there! Now hear there! The sea has been the inspiration for many works of art including songs, poems, paintings, operas, and books. Man ' s battles with the sea have been responsible for some of the greatest literary works of all time. One theme in these works is dominant throughout; namely, man ' s reliance upon his Eternal Father for assistance. It is a very natural thing to look for help from the Almighty when aboard a ship beleagured by eighty foot waves and a howling wind. Now that you are putting out to the sea of life, you may find storms which will try your souls. These trials and tribu¬ lations will be best met if you realize you are not alone in life. The Naval Academy tradition of closing every church ser¬ vice with the Navy Hymn bears testimony to this fact. As the congregation kneels, the choir sings: Eternal Father strong to save. Whose arm hath bound the restless wave Who bids the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep, 0, hear us when we call to thee For those in peril on the sea. So it is too, in your life. May your seas be smooth with a homeward breeze. And, in keeping with this theme I offer you my congratulations with the nautical expression, All Hands! Well done! 9 rt 0Q a V)
