Swansea Free Public Library 69 Main Street Swansea, MA,02777 4 D i The unceasing lap of the waves over which many ships with countless untold destinies have voyaged, has provided also for the passage of The Chief” of ’‘58. This ship began her journey in the year 1954 on the brink of confusion and uncertainty. Having traveled through four years of sunshine and fog, The Chief,” carefully guided by her experienced navigators, has at last docked upon the unknown horizon of the future. Here, her weary but grateful passengers prepare to board dif¬ ferent ships, destined to guide them to the fulfillment of life they seek far beyond the horizon. The journey of The Chief” of ’58 will often be recalled to their minds, and the log pertaining to their trials and pleasures in learning and experience, composed during their last year on board, will be held in high esteem as a remembrance for all GILLIAN LAMB Editor-m-Chief £ « r i ir . Cassidy who has ploughed steadily, tilling the soil of character, the ground of knowledge, and the field of athletics, sowing the seeds of kindness, never once forgetting his ideals of good sportsmanship and fair play, we, the class of 1958, dedicate this annual. With mist in our eyes, loyalty in our hearts, and a regret for our departure, we say to Coach Cassidy— Thank you. UK A i 08 . Following this, the Cardinals racked up wins over Franklin, Situate, Dighton, and Somerset. These wins were sandwiched around hard- to-forget ties with Mansfield and Dartmouth. Climaxing their season with the greatest high school comeback ever, on Thanksgiving morning. Coach Jim Cassidy’s senior-filled eleven captured, for the third straight year, the Narry Football Championship. Trailing 19-0 midway in the final quarter, the Maroon and Gold turned all Swansea into pandemonium by scoring three TD’s in six minutes and taking the title away from arch-rival, Somerset! Case High dominated the All-Narry selections placing four on the first team: Mike Howayeck, Norman Chretien, James Travis, and Wayne Goss. 1 JAMES BLANCHETTE JAMES TRAVIS PHILIP TRAVIS ALAN SPICER MICHAEL HOWAYECK HENRY ENTWISTLE J 6 Judith Beynon Ellen Allen Carol Lynch (Head) Doris Skelly Priscilla Shuman We’ve got the T-E-A-M Elaine Provazza and Susan Lapierre Gillian Lamb and Donna Remy YEA Hurrah Case! They fought for and achieved the runner-up spot in the Narry League ending the season with a thirteen win and three loss record. Only teams to defeat our Maroon and Gold were Somerset (2) and Dartmouth (1). In the final game of the Narry season, Case racked Dartmouth, thus putting an end to Dartmouth’s title hopes. Tech Tourney competition was keen and the charges of Coach Cassidy were eliminated by Oliver Ames in the quarter-finals. But, before they were eliminated they knocked Dartmouth out of the tourney in the most exciting game of the entire season. The final score was decided by just one point.
