On September 21, 1956, the semors honored us with a reception. ln the everung we entertained the audience for an hour with our stunts and costumes. Following the enta- tamrnent there was a dance. The girls rn the freshman class who participated in sports were Lmda Edwards, Priscilla Duntley, Dorcas Nutting, Ada Bell, Caroline Stone, Sally Hancock, Caroline Brown, Patricia Tenny, and Caroline Eldridge. Gwendolyn Watkins was chosen as one of the cheerleaders. The boys who participated in sports were James Shane, Irving Felker, Brett Webber, Allen Shackley, and Robert Leso. Have you ever sat on a movre seat when the person that just got up had been chewmg gum? Also there rs a lrttle sugar and corn syrup mrxed rn very carefully These are the mam rn gredrents that keep the publrc rnterested The food color rs of not too much rm portance because after the average teenager chews the gum for about three days there rsn t much food colorrng left Last but not least rs the natural and artrftcral flavors I doubt rf rt s the flavor that keeps the boys and grrls chawrng and chew mg because wrth an ambttrous chewer the flavor rs all gone tn about frfteen mrnutes havmg done tts duty of gettmg the person started on an rnteresttng and amusrng pastrme But I have not told the purpose of bubble gum as compared to plarn gum It rs a competrtrve sport among the younger generatron to see who can blow the brggest bubble The rewards may be anythmg from popularrty to a face covered wrth a ftlm of strcky gum They haven t been able to rnvent a gum that wrll retract rnto the mouth after the elastrc bubble grves rn to the conquerrng forces of atmospherrc pressure Every bad thmg has tts good pornts even rf rts bad pornts may be on the strcky srde One good pornt about bubble gum rs that rt does help to keep the teeth clean and whrte Also there was a prece rn the paper once that sard To chew gum wtll help you lose werght But I ve always thought that of many of our stout people who were gum chewers and bubble blowers But what about all of us slender people? Surely we must have a reason for chewrng thrs gum The reason must be that Amerrcan teenage boys and grrls lrke to make a sucky mess out of everythtng Of course the teenagers I know are not that krnd of specr men What can the reason be?
