Focus On COMET 1967 Casco High School Casco, Wisconsin To our Principal: guide, teacher, and friend. This is to certify that Gerald Thielke, Principal of Casco High School, is HON¬ ORABLY DISCHARGED from his duties at Casco High on this 6th day of June, 1967. This honorable mention is awarded as a final testimony of our unlimited thanks to his instruction, inspiration, and interest in us. 2 3 When I walked upon a mountain, I saw a form and thought it was a beast. When l came closer. 1 saw it was a man. When I came closer yet, I found it was my broth¬ er. The purpose of Casco High--the reason for its existence --is to serve us, not as a group, a mass, but as individuals. For this reason the theme of the ' 67 COMET is FOCUS ON CASCO. Focus on each individual aspect of Cas¬ co High and see the memorable and exciting school life we experience in our search for wisdom. Focus on the knowledge we were led to through and under the guidance of our teachers. Focus on our athletic teams who were often victorious because of the wi se decisions of the players and their coaches and focus on our many social activities which we could not have done without. We Lire non- happy mJ proud to have you sit down and FOCUS OiN CASCO. 4 5 13 It has been our privilege to present to y u this last edition of the Casco Comet. We have certainly tried to capture all those memorable events that have so clearly decided the fate of this past year. Now is the time for a new search into unknown boundaries with high hope for what may Lie ahead. Now is also the time to reflect - -for it is good to remember once in a while--the precious moments we have spent together at Casco High School. We hope you will each find your own fond mem - ories in the pages of this yearbook. Co-editors JoAnn Kinnard Helen Nemetz 14 History Of C.H.S. In order to know and understand the history of the schools of Casco, we must turn back to the year 1855. It was in this year that Mr. Ed Decker first came to this area. He is the man that is responsible for the beginning of the village of Casco, and for the naming of it. (He had been born in the town of Casco, Maine, and when he moved here, he decided to name this village the same. ) In the years 1855 and 1860, Mr. Decker established the first school in the village. At that time the village was located a little west of the present site, and was some¬ where in the vicinity of Mail ' s orchard. Across from the village was where the first school was founded. In the years I860 and 1861, Mr. Decker served as state senator and while he was gone, his brother-in-law moved the Location of the school to the land that is now oc¬ cupied by the Farrell Lumber Co, This building served as the schoolhouse until 1900, when two rooms of the present grade school were built. In 1915, a second story was added. As time went on, they added one more year ol high school each year, until in 19L7, all four years of high school were offered in the school. During that summer, the Casco Union High School District came into being. In the spring ol 1919, the first class of Casco High School graduated. This class consisted oi six people. The principal at that time was Mr. IL J. Worachek. In the spring of 1967, the last class of 57 students graduated. By 1938, a new school was necessary , for there was an enrollment of 71 people. We have now an enrollment of 260 students. The first class to graduate from this new high school, under the principalship of Mr. John L. Paska, had a membership of 20. In June of 1954, a referendum vote was issued to determine the building of a new addition. The addition was completed in 1956 when Mr. J. H, Sheffy was the principal. The very first school board for the high school had consisted of three men: Dr. Y. J. Pencil, Henry Dvorak, and Joe Hoffman. We now have a five-man board consisting oi: Alvin K inn; ml, Lloyd Dross a ft, Mrs. Earl Glander, Maurice Paul, and Chester Majeski, Mr. Thielke was our last principal. Many changes have definitely taken place since 1939. Casco High School will soon be known as a junior high, with its students being transferred, for the most part, to Luxemburg. Now is the time to recall the precious memories of the past C. H. S. , and look ahead toward an even brighter future. I ' m sure that all of you have experienced good days and bad days, exciting days and dull days, but looking back in the years to come the time represent¬ ed here will seem like a high point in life Even though Casco High School is no more, it will always live with all of us ns a place where very important events took place in Our journey thru life I hope that all of you are now better prepared to find your place in society because of your time spent here. Vanderm use Organization Editor A Prosperous Annual Drive ’66 Hobo Day Began Early The festivities of the ' 66 Homecoming started early. The Senior ' s bonfire was lit by a group from Southern Door on Wednesday night, October 12. With the help of the underclassmen, the boys built a new wood pile. Everyone, who helped, put his heart into it to show the spirit of the students on the last C. H. S. Homecoming. This new bon¬ fire set the sky ablaze on the wet Friday night of October 14. As in the previous year, Friday before Homecoming belonged to the Casco Hobos. The entire student body dressed as tramps. The afternoon was filled with the interesting pep session, designed to bring forth the famous Comet spirit. Each class, the cheer¬ leaders, and the teachers organized a skit and presented it. The day was filled with laughter and turned out to be a great success. Moments To Remember Saturday, October 15, was the (.late of a victorious Homecoming for Casco High. A parade through the downtown area at 12:30 was fol¬ lowed by a football game at 1:30 in which Casco scored a 26-7 win over Gibraltar, The music for the evening fes¬ tivities was provided by the Cykiks. The g m was decorated in a fall atmosphere whic h included a horn of plenty and also the winning football. The ceiling was a heaven of blue and gold streamers which followed up to the wall -sized mural drawn by Sharon Gilson. A waterfall and river accented the bridge, which was the throne. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Queen Roxanne Majeski by King Dan VVautiet. Music by Russ Zimmer¬ man added just the right last touch to the splendor of the evening. The juniors had an excellent turnout.
