A Message from Mr. Drake You have a fine school! How? Why? Things don't just happen. There must be a people who feel this need and have the will to make it happen. Cascade is fortu- nate it had the people when the need arose. The Cascade students now have a fa- cility for learning second to none in the state of Oregon. You have an area es- pecially designed for team teaching; you have a reading center providing for both visual and auditory study; you have areas providing for both large and small group instruction; you have a student center pro- viding for both learning and relaxation; you have adequate, well-equipped class- rooms; and you have a functional and well- designed gymnasium. Your building is designed with the flexibility to meet the changing needs of students to follow you. You have a faculty that has as its first goal the desire to provide you with the opportunity to learn and develop. You have a principal who both understands you and knows what it takes to make you an asset as a person now and what you need to be an asset to yourself and society in the future. One must become involved in what is happening or not happening around him. One cannot be all things or do all things; one has to make decisions based on what he feels are the important issues. Only if they are his convictions can he devote the time and energy required to carry forth the task to a successful conclusion. Many never feel the true SPIRIT OF ACTION since they never become wholly involved in any cause. They only participate in someone else's cause. To this point, the action has been that of your parents and teachers. You must now pick up this spirit. All that has gone before has only been a prelude to what may follow, and what may follow depends on the goals you have set for yourself whether you have caught the SPIRIT OF ACTION and have the will and desire to carry the action to a fulfill- ing conclusion! 2
