Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1967 volume:

'THE CHANGING ERA” As a being, any being from the smallest amoeba to man himself goes through life, he undergoes changes. Childhood, adolescence, adult life: all are important milestones in one’s career as a living organism. We as students have gone through childhood, most of adolescence, and are approaching maturity. All through early life and grade school we have been pampered and babied; and now we are in high school, the seniors have graduated for the last time from the original Cascade Union High, and we are granted more liberties and freedom. We experience new heights in education, in social life, in personal emotions. High school is a small milestone in life; although to many students it is the most important part of existence. Years filled with bonfires, dances, homework, ball games, pep assemblies, homework, more homework, then finally a reward—graduation. We have finished the year of challenge, new customs, excitement, and difference with the feeling of success. Our school has had many tragedies, but with the students’ school spirit it has survived. Now with the new high school started, there are many ‘Changes” taking place. But the students will take them all in stride. We’ve traveled a long, tough, road and now we’ve reached its end. To better things now we look forward. The Changing Era 'Tis time to ponder The points of today-- The way things are, The change and array. Our school is different, Its view has changed. It's no longer for us To try for a change. We gaze down the hall Amazed to see Our school once more; But this is not me. Old memories of ours, Of freshman years, Of proms and dances Do not appear. 'Tis time to change, To pace once more. No double shift Nor early mom. More changing yet; The Viet Nam war, The face of our nation, Our Soldiers afar. The graduates of past Taking care of the world Will soon be our job; We fear not, we're sure. That era was here. Another has come. To end with a line Should not be forgot. The difference is here Expected or not; Accept it we must- We have quite a lot. by Betty Ann Nollen The rebuilding begins. The gym begins to take shape as the beams are put in place. 2 The final touch; the bricks. CASCADIAN '67 CASCADE UNION HIGH SCHOOL TURNER, OREGON TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION SENIORS UNDERCLASSMEN ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES SPORTS SENIOR ACTIVITIES ADVERTISEMENTS DEDICATION In the one short year that Mr. Leonard Federico has been vice-principal at Cascade Union High, we all have learned to respect his word and honor his decisions. Such respect does not always come easily, but is always hard earned. Mr. Federico is one of the few adults with the gift for understanding the current teen generation. Not very many of today’s grown population can boast of this power, and it is power because the adult who can understand youth will find it much easier to get them to work for him and themselves. Such a man is Mr. Federico. This understanding, along with a seemingly endless supply of energy, hustles him from meeting to meeting, parent to parent, and student to student. Many are the days when he arrives at school around seven-thirty and stays until almost six. His basic job of vice-principal was supplemented with such time consuming items as athletic director, head football coach, assistant basketball coach, and activities director. All of these secondary tasks were undertaken to the best of his abilities, which in itself was a job well done. Ail of the students of Cascade during 1966-’67 are glad to have Mr. Federico and he will always be welcome here at Cascade. 4 ADMINISTRATION ADMINISTRATION--Superintendent, Mr. Drake; Jr. High Principal, Mr. Todd; Jr. High Vice-Principal, Mr. Os- terlund; Sr. High Vice-Principal, Mr. Federico; Sr. High Principal, Mr. Christensen. The long weeks of constant rehearsal and practice made the show a big success with the audiences. Members of the cast all had their two cents to put in on why the play was so successful, but all began with the name of Miss Miller. Without Miss Miller's talent as a director we wouldn't have been able to put on as good a play as we did, remarked more than just one cast member. It is a symbol of our school and community from the Cascade Mountains, to the ax and plow, to the torch of knowledge and the book of learning. The cougar symbolizes our school mascot and the rope it is standing symbol- izes our school colors. Our coat of arms has been adopted by the school and will be a symbol that we will always look up to with great respect. 105 DON AMARAL--V Football 4; JV Football 2; Frosh Foot- ball; Track 1,2,3,4; Wrestling 1; AV Aids 4; Student Council 1. I don't know how to say thank you to Mr. Hogan for his cooperation and all of the help he has put forth on this yearbook. We would have never made it without him, and there are no words that can possibly explain my deepest appreciation to this man. Also, I would like to thank Mr. Stutzman for coming out to take pictures and for his good work on the senior pictures. My staff gets a pat on the back for being extremely helpful, and in my book, the photography de- partment is nothing but GREAT . I would also like to thank the faculty for their patience during pic- ture taking times. I will close but just say that 1 have truly enjoyed being a part of this yearbook, and I hope that each and every one of you enjoy this yearbook as much as I've enjoyed putting it together. Sincerely, Marsha Kilgore Editor 117 % S? « -i ?. '-T- : ...
