The following are three of the discussed solutions (1) split the district into the other high school districts — surrounding schools expressed a willingness to help, but were already filled to capacity or over crowded; (2) Stayton High offered the District the use of its plant from 4 P.M. until 10 P.M. — parents stated concern of students getting home after 12:30 P.M.; (3) try to double shift in the remaining end of the school building. The double shift plan was adopted because it was the plan that met with the least criticism. Seniors and juniors attended from 7 A.M. until 12:15 P.M. and sopho- mores and freshmen attend from 12:30 P.M. until 5:35 P.M. Firemen combat intense heat and flames. Rear parking area is silent witness to tragedy. Intense heat shown by the condition of iron pillars. Steam rises from cooling debris. 5
