I have helped, in a small way, to cultivate the fertile ground of adolesence, to watch the gradual growth of our students. There is a thrill in knowing that the youth we teach today will be the leaders of this nation tomorrow. It is a matter of self-confidence to know that these same leaders will go forth to take this nation along the next step in it's history. I retire from the field of active teaching secure in the knowledge of my con- fidence, that our future is secure. The youth of today are being well prepared for their growing enlarging responsibilities in the world of tomorrow. 4 Administration Are you sure this isn't forged Duke?1 Attendance Officer, Alice Etzel. asks Fern Mikkleson and Miriam Dutton enjoy the happy busy hours of office duties. They were undefeated in the league, district champions, took first in all tournaments, and went on to take second in state. This is quite an im- pressive record for these boys. Their hard work and de- termination is shown in these following pictures. Bob tries the Lewis style for a change. Mike has this guy right where he wants him. Watch Jess trip this guy with a little grab of the arm. Here is an example of the State wrestling style from Ken and his opponent. These action shots show some of the techniques that these boys use and the work that goes into them. Don gives a jump into the air to catch a fly ball. Ray opens up his arms to catch the ball. In the end its an out on a fly Greg signals to first baseman ball for the other team, for the ball as an opponent bums it home. Time out is called and Jim Davidson looks fondly at the dug-out as the heat of the day, and game, has him wish- ing for shade. Hey Frances, wake up! Each spring, the daughters of Cas- cade present a Style Show and Tea in honor of their mothers. This year invitations were sent to all the mothers, aunts, sisters, grandmothers, and cousins of every student body mem- ber. A special guest, who has been a mother and friend of every student and graduate, was Mrs. Ruth Riches. An award was given to her for her many fine years of service at Cascade in the Guid- ance Office. Lois models a cool summer suit. Marie Beldon entertains at the Mother- Daughter Tea. Marilyn DeHut arranges the table before the Mothers and Daughters arrive. Diana Lynn, Lois Harmon, Fran Meyers, and Valeda Hendrickson sang songs from Mary Poppins. Tea The fashions are modeled by senior girls and the clothing they wear is from Hagen's of Stayton. The Tea is sponsored by Girls' League. This organization, under the careful guidance of Mrs. Alice Etzel, also sponsors the Talent Show, Clash Day Dance, Girl of the Month, and many more worthwhile activities. Our first view of Cascade is usually seen from this angle. Activity period catches many students participating in meetings. Jerry Whitehead is shown here conducting a Varsity C meeting where the members are discussing the Annual Carnival. Lunch begins at 12:05 for some, but most of us wait until 12:23. Harvey is caught unaware at the lunch table. Teachers very seldom have enough time to do anything but munch. 96 Life of a Cascadian Roaming the halls seems to gather many admirers, but for some the library, lunch room, and Dancing Club are answers to the question, What shall we do today?” —f Cheers begin and today Mr. Siems and Mrs. Paulus are the cheerleaders. After a long day of activity and study the mind and body need a bit of relaxation. The sock hops held on Friday night give us exactly that. Pep Assemblies always start by giving honor to our country. But then. . . The game is active and everyone becomes ex- cited, especially if we win. When the crowd has gone, we can say: Here endeth another Cascade Day.” 97 Lloyd Spry Austin, Jr. Dennis Lee Bagger James C. Bales Linda Mae Bankston Nora June Barnett Gary K .
