CASCADIAN Scenes Cascade Union High School Turner, Oregon Published By The Student Body Annual Staff: Editors: Gail Huber, Judy Michaelson, and Steve Barber Make-up Editors: Faroll Hans, Penny Hans, and Patty Strode Photographers: Mr. Loyd Sidwell, Mr. Bob Stutzman, and Del Gossen Business Manager: Susan Rolfe Circulation and Advertising: Rick Stanton The Varsity cheerleaders, reflecting the enjoyment of all, pause beside the roaring bonfire. HOMECOMING OPEN YEAR The Royal Court presiding over the dance. Princess Mary Korkow, Queen Rose Ann Henrikson, and Prin- cess Judy Michaelson. Homecoming, 1962, was an event that will stand out in the memories of all. Long hours were spent during the entire week making posters, preparing and distributing mums, organizing the bonfire and making sure everything was set for the big day. Amidst screams, laughs, and cheers, the bonfire and Pep Rally began. The serpentine, school song, and many yells raised the hopes for victory to new heights. As the students cheered loudly and vigorously, our Cougar team led us on to victory over our Logger opponents with a score of 18 to 6. The climax of the Homecoming game reached its peak as the coronation of the queen took place at halftime. Who cracked the funny!--Howard?? The vastness of the fire warms this group of students. SCENES Presenting. . .The mighty Cougars who crushed their opponents to win a Homecoming victory. The Homecoming dance, with the theme Golden Autumn”, found students in a gay whirl among the crepe paper, Indian com, pumpkins, com stalks, and colorful leaves. Streamers and com lay about, but Homecoming, 1962, will remain in every heart. And the band played on! Rose Ann Henrikson is crowned Homecoming Queen for 1962 by Aaron Thayer. Pep Club and Band spur the Cougars on to greater efforts with music and song. Mr. John Medcalf DEDICA TION Mr. Medcalf was first a gentleman and a scholar but especially an artist in every sense. In his classroom there were always samples of the interesting art that he had made or brought from the sea that he loved so well. His flair for drama made the plays he directed out- standing. This flair for drama was also evident in the interest he took in each of his students. On Sunday, February 3, 1963, Mr.. John Medcalf died after a lingering illness.
