Conveyonces Furnish Transportation: Students to School, Logs to the Mill A very large number of students who attend Cascade ride a bus to and from school. Busses loading and unloading students is an ordinary, everyday occurrence. At times the procedure of unloading a bus is a bit hectic. The scene is always one of push- ing and shoving as students hurry to get to lockers and to classes. Students crowd the covered walkway after school as they board awaiting busses. 5 Like the students, the logs too must be loaded onto vehicles. The selected logs are first loaded onto trucks or train cars by a cable apparatus. With careful managing the large, heavy trucks can transport a good-sized load without any trouble. The logs are then taken to their destination, which is most often a mill site. Here the logs are unloaded with a fork lift and dropped into a sorting pond. In both of these industries-education and timber-the material is being transported to a mill where mental or structural processing takes place. Getting students or logs to where the processing is to be done is a very important part of the business. Raw timber is processed into raw lumber before it can be made into various wood products. In the same way, junior and senior high schools must ready young people for higher education or job training. Education is an industry which takes quite a few years to produce a final product while the timber industry is able to manufacture its product in a relatively short period of time. The first step in both industries is the transportation of raw materials.
