Cavalier coaches give the boys the second half strategy. Close Margins Dull Eighth Hopes The Cascade eighth grade ended the 1968 season with a 1-3 record. Two heartbreaking losses were suffered at the hands of Monticello and Coweeman, both by a mere two points. In the season opener, Cascade fell before Huntington 12-0. Many bad breaks plagued the Cavahals. One touchdown was called back on a penalty and Huntington scored one of its touchdowns when Cascade had only nine men on the field. The only win of the year for the Cavaliers was a 13-6 victory over Castle Rock. Chuck Rich and Ron Petersen each scored for Cascade. Rocky Sweet set up one score with an interception. Monticello squeezed by Cascade 20-18 in their next outing. Chuck Rich tallied all three touchdowns. Extra points killed the Cavaliers as all three were missed. In the final game Cascade fell before Huntington 18-16. The Cavaliers were leading by four points with seconds remaining, but a Coweeman pass found the mark after being tipped by a Cascade defender. Six eighth grade team members won post season awards. jim Pierson and Tony Hart came out on top in the offensive and defensive line awards. John Schroeder and Rocky Sweet tied for the best defensive back award. Ron Pedersen led the offensive backs. Chuck Rich received the most valuable player award.
