Never-Ending Cycle Stecudily Produces ssembly Line of Finished Products This generation of trees has found its place in every field imaginable-in thousands of forms and sizes. It is a forerunner of industries. Wherever heavily timbered areas occur, the ever increasing demand for wood products makes it necessary for an increase in the production yield. Because timber is so valuable to today's needs, the source of this industry must be carefully safeguarded. Looking back, there seems to be five major phases to the cycle. The tree was first let to mature. When found to be select and free from disease it was harvested and transported to a mill. It was changed into board lumber. Finally a finished product was created. This cycle starts once again with the planting of new seedlings. The industry strives to plant more new trees than it harvests to insure a continuous source of raw materials to meet the increasing demands for wood products. The process of education works in much the same way as the processing of timber. Trees must mature before they can be harvested for further use. just like trees, students need to mature through education if they are to meet the specifications required by industry. Current events and issues are as much a part of the curriculum as the fundamentals of reading, writing and arithmetic. One's education is not limited to that which is found in the classroom. He is constantly surrounded by infor- mation coming from television, newspapers and maga- zines. Experience in meeting the changes made necessary by an ever changing society have led the administration of the schools to constantly keep formulating programs which will meet tomorrow's needs. The cycle which faces the education industry is one of change as industry and society make new demands upon what a person should know. Undreamed of shapes and forms of wood are being produced as a result of today's modern methods of wood processing. Arches, beams and trusses are able to bear tremendous loads in complete safety without supporting posts.
