Of these, nine still remain with us: Jerry Ball, Carol Berger, Bob Buck, Brent Ethridge, Lester Johnson, Brenda Kitson, Amy Lyon, David Sudenga and Cherie Wrobel. Four short years ago the Ulminites and the Cascadians joined forces to form the Class of 82 , Our first challenge in becoming full-fledged freshmen was initiation. We have many fond memories of that day, such as the cool refreshing feeling of marshmallows in molasses in our armpits, the many concoctions we were forced to eat and succombing to the whims of the seniors. Our freshman year was everything but boring. Our Sophomore year we came bounding back enthusiastically because from then on we could look down on the dumb freshmen . Determined to be recognized, we built a superior Homecoming float entitled Catch Saturday Afternoon Fever! and took first place, and Lori Dugas was crowned queen. At the end of the year, eight of us went to Rapid City with the band for the Dakata Days Band Festival. Suddenly our junior year was upon us and there were many activities. First there was the Homecoming float which took second. Kitti Ober and Jerry Ball were our royalty. The major event to our junior year was putting on the Junior-Senior Prom. After a lot of hard work we pulled it off and it proved to be well worth it, as all seemed to have a good time. The theme was An Old Fashioned Love Song and the colors were yellow, white and green. Our very own Brent Ethridge and Lori Dugas were crowned royalty. Three proud juniors Amy Lyon, Lori Dugas and Kris Heikkila, selected for scholastic and leadership qualities, were inducted into Nation Honor Society. Other honors went to Girls’ State Delegates Brenda Kitson and Kris Heikkila; Boys’ State Delegates Brent Ethridge and Bob Buck; and Heisey Award recipients Jason Enger, Bob Buck and Cherie Wrobel. Lori Dugas was selected to serve on the Bank Board and David Sudenga was elected Student Council President. Suddenly the best and final year had arrived. We were a bit dumb-founded at first, but it didn’t take long before we were into the role of seniors, bossing the underclassmen around. Twenty-four strong, we nominated Dean Ferterrer and Kris Heikkila for Homecoming and Dean was crowned. Although we put a lot of hard work into our float, Cascading Over Valier!”, the juniors took first place. Lester Johnson and Kitti Ober were our candidates for the prom and Kitti was elected queen. Carol Berger was inducted into National Honor Society. We chose brown and tan for our colors and yellow roses for our flowers. If our hearts can conceive it and our minds can believe it, we know we can achieve it was chosen as our class motto. The second biggest event of the year was our Senior Sneak. On May 15 eighteen seniors loaded the bus and headed for Flathead Lake Lodge. We spent the short time we had swimming, canoeing, playing frisbee, basketball and volley- ball, hiking and staying awake. Monday morning came to soon, especially for those who were up all night, and we loaded the bus again with fond memories of our walk through the trees, midnight swims and wake-up calls in the middle of the night. It was a trip we won’t soon forget. Finally the night we had all been dreaming of had arrived. On May 23, 1982 it became a reality as twenty-four seniors graduated from the halls of Cascade High School. Amy Lyon was Valedictorian and Lori Dugas was Salutatorian. Dale Johnson was our guest speaker and Kathy Rhynard sang Departure and Theme From Mahagany accompanied by Wendy McKamey. Many things we will never forget have happened through our school years. Whenever we see an old friend there will always be a Remember When , and though we've graduated, we find ourselves holding on the the past, yet looking to the future, wondering what it holds for us.
