Text from Pages 1 - 120 of the 1977 volume:

1977 Seniors Class History Four years ago two great forces entered the halls of Cascade High; the Ulmites and the Cascadians. After spending many days examining each other, to see if both consisted of the same species, the two groups decided to join their 54 bodies together as a means of protection, (as we all know Freshman are considered peons by every Senior that ever walked the great crowded halls of Cascade). And protection they needed the night of initiation! Many fond memories were found that night; like that cool refreshing feel of a raw egg running down your face and dripping from your hair, or the yummy taste of some aged contraption that was everything but poisonous, or so they told us! Oh yes the Freshman year was a fun time filled with a lot of experimenting in things like building floats, losing float contests, going to the Homecoming Dance stag, going to the Greaser Dance with other Freshman, and then finally a date to the Junior Prom (with a Sophomore). Finally BIGTIMES were coming around! All of us found some activity to keep us from doing anything stupid like studying. Many of the boys tried out for football, or basketball and some even got to play! Then there were all those other sports like Wrestling, Cross Country, Track, Girls Basketball, Boy Chasing, and Girl Chasing that kept us from getting completely bored of all those required classes like math, english, science and P. E. Winning the spirit stick on Black and Gold Day was another great accomplishment for us. Then another big time was in store for the Freshman—their chance to be part of the Broad- way Production LITTLE ABNER. Of course some of the more bold people in the class took advantage of this situa- tion, received a part in the play, and then did their best to impress any Star Hunter that might have been in the area (none seemed interested in the Freshman's great ability to act as a door stop!) But the Freshman weren't dis- couraged; their next goal in life was— Maybe next year we'll get a line to say! Many great feats were accom- plished with the help of our Freshman class members. The Boys Track team took first at State and the High School Band took a 1 at District Music Festival for the 1st time. 2 ERIC BOEHM PAULINE ARLETA BOOTH MARK CALDWELL 4 MARK ALLEN ANDERSON JAMES A. Oh gnrrossM The Morning After. Sleeping on the job, pres. ? The Juniors had a rough year ahead of them but they proved to themselves and everyone else that they could come out on top. Their accomplishments in- cluded having the winning float for Homecoming, struggling through a money-making Speech and Drama dinner, winning first place in the girls volleyball tournaments, grabbing first place in the poster contest, a Junior class play, and a memor- able Prom. Ironically class meetings were the hardest work of all, but somehow the Juniors made it. 21 Bottoms up! The Annual Staff of C.H.S. hopes to bring you a little joy, and a little remembrance of what life was like in this brick school building throughout the pages of this year- book. We would need a whole volume of books to capture every incident but if only one portrait, poem, or snapshot brings back a cherished thought or sacred memory that might brighten up your day, then our purpose for making this book has been fulfilled. This book just scrapes the surface of high school days, but now that it's all over and we are looking back, we'd have to say that the time, work, hassels, and discourage- ments were all worth it and that the endless hours spent finishing and refinishing pages, were rewarding in the end. Eventually ourSophomore year came and we were going to show those Freshman who was boss. Only 48 bodies showed up this year but we were still a great force. It was a fun day when we Sophomores could laugh at t Stupid Freshmen and all the dumb mistakes they made during their initation. A great controversey was caused over our unpopular S O B and S O G T-shirts and we were forced to uphold our reputation. This was accomplished when our Homecoming Float Badgers Win By Landslide , took first place. Again this year there were new experiences like joining one of the numerous clubs; Annual Staff, FFA, FHA, Student Council, Badger Paws, Speech G Drama, Pep Club, Ketochi Staff, Chorus, and Band. Some of us even found out you can belong to too much and wear yourself ragged! The Band again received a Superior rating at Music Festival, the 880 Medley Relay Team with Pam Chambers, Janice Greyn, and Gina Loveland participating, captured the btate title, and the Girls Cross Country Team was State Champions. Suddenly our Junior year was upon us and many activities had to be planned by the 49 Juniors that were enrolled in school. The Juniors found out how hard it was to make money and keep it for their Senior year, as there were many expenses that had to be met. The school Carnival was one source of income for that year where our booths were the Dart Throw and Ladder Climb. The Junior Prom was a source of entertainment and a lot of hard work for the Juniors, but we survived and put on a very' good Prom with beautiful decorations, a good band and the theme of Feelings . Our very own Janice Greyn and Terry Pierce were crowned royalty. There were other obligations to be met like the Junior-Senior Picnic which turned out to be a success even with hot dogs and hamburgers and just an afternoon of goofing around in the park. One big problem that was faced by the Juniors was the purchase of the Senior flowers for Graduation. The Juniors hoping to economize after such expensive year were reluctant to purchase long stem roses for the Seniors. Finally the Juniors consented and all was righted between the two classes. There were many honors bestowed upon our Junior Class such as; Jeannie Gould, Julie Schubert, Gina Loveland, and Jim Rose being chosen for the Canadian Exchange Students to Bow Island; Gina Loveland being crowned Queen at Homecoming; Pam Chambers became the Class B State Champion in the 100 yd. dash; the 440 Yard Relay Team consisting of two Juniors Pam Chambers and Nanette Coryell, set a state mark of 51.1; the returning Medley Relay Team was top in the state again also. Every Junior was now looking forward with expectation to next year when they would finally become the ELITE CLASS of people called SENIORS. Then the year we had been waiting for sprung at us. We were dumbfounded at first but it didn't take us long to learn that we were the King of the Roost. We got into the great role that all Seniors take part in-bossing the underclassmen around, starting initiation instead of getting initiated, getting to think of rotten creations to do the dumb Freshman such as pickles for curlers and of course the great smell of Fox Scent. We must never forget though that we struggled all these years for just the pleasure we had. Our Senior year went by all but too slow, before we knew it we had to try' and act like humans to get the great day of Graduation ready. But in the mean time we had great achievements accomplished within our class; Reva Tucker received honorable mention for Girls Basketball, Mark Anderson and Barney Sparrow for Football, and Mark Creveling was chosen for Conference First Team Running Back and 2nd Team Linebacker. All in all we really had some good athletes in our class. Willy Hamilton reigned as Mr. Irrisistable, Don Fraser was crowned King at Homecoming, and three Seniors, Nanette Coryell, Ellen Mine ha n, and Lynette Rumney, were chosen to be Canadian Exchange Students to Medicine Hat, Alberta. Sandy Strizich and Janice Heikkila also received the honor of first place in Humorous Duo at State Speech Drama. For the great Carnival of the school we made the most money' with our scientific games-Pop Bottle Toss and Volleyball Shoot. Good thing we did make all that money because we were almost broke, and being broke mean’t no Sneak Trip and no Sneak Trip would just break our little hearts. We pulled through though and headed the bus load of sweet Seniors to Lolo Hot Springs. It was never so hot until we got there. We showed them how to dive, swim, and stay awake for 46 hours. There was a live sing-song that night and we serenaded the other kids to sleep or the ones that pretended to be asleep. Believe it or not we were really good and we probably won’t ever forget the Senior Sneak Trip and the great bus ride home. 94 Looking back it seemed only yesterday we entered C.H. S. as dumb Freshman but May 22 made it a realjty when Mr. Prestbo spoke for our Graduation and Mr. Lersbak issued our diplomas. We left Cascade High School with high hopes for the future, but sorrow in leaving our friends. CLASS PROPHECY May 22, 1997 finds us at the Class of 1977's 20th reunion. As each of us socialize we find that our former classmates have taken up these various occupations. MARK ANDERSON was finally developed due to his extensive exposure in the U.S, Navy. JIM BE LISLE is now a close associate to Billy Graham and works for crackers. ERIC BOEHM 20 years later finally graduated from boot camp and is working for a New Jersey transfer. PAULINE BOOTH has a major in special education and is presently employed by her favorite school CHS. You'll be a very busy girl won't you Pauline? MARK CALDWELL has opened a new fangled beauty salon where they have sunken chairs for the convenience of the owner. PAM CHAMBERS is happily married, but unfortunately was unable to attend reunion because she was busy rooting for her family track team. NANETTE CORYELL now owns a sun block corporation so her kids don't look like they've been staring through a screen door like their dad, Randy, DEBBIE CREVELING has become the first lady President of the United States and spent her $50.00 vacation money on a trip to Europe. Right Deb?? MARK C REVELING is still showing Sue Mahoney some new holds in the back of his Cadillac. ALAN CUMMINGS is really flying high now. He is the main pilot for Burned Out Airlines. TERRI DENNIS is in the rodeo circuit . . . She loves to ride those bulls. DONNIE FRASER is pervertidly employed by Peek-a-boo-I'd-like-to-see-you Underwear Company. JIMM GORDON married a muskrat.
