POSTAL STRIKE BADGERS I CASCADE HIGH SCHOOl Cascade, Montana ____________U—L__________ We, the editors of the '71' Ketochi proudly present to you this year of memories. We hope the 71 Ketochi will be a yearbook that you will long treasure as a part of your years spent at Cascade High School. The past year has been an eventful year for the students of Cascade High School. Even though many of the activities in which we took part were firsts for us in our personal lives, they were lasts in our role as high school students. After graduation, steadies will be broken up, sports honors will lose their glamour, personally treasured class jokes will lose their humor, and the close friendships that were built in the past four years will slowly be- gin to drift apart. Although to some of you the '71' Ketochi may only be paper, pictures, and print; we wish that in the future it may mean much more. We hope that in the years to come we may use the '71 Ketochi to help recall all of the fond memories which were made within these walls, and the '71' Ketochi will help us to realize that the four years we spent on the hill were four of the best years of our lives. 2 Lynda Lord and Della Wojtala The 1971 Ketochi Co-Editors Lennard Wright, Jeff Hamlett 3 Teresa Hastings, Miss JoEllen Conwell - Adviser, Connie Teterud. Dana Darko, Kathy Olson, Margaret Belisle, Randy Cox. In appreciation and with many fond memories, we dedicate this page to our beloved Mrs. Green. :' Mrs. Donna Green - Adviser Lois Perry, Greg Winterrowd YOU’RE MY GUEST IN THOUGHT Once a day, and sometimes more, You knock upon my daydream door, And I say warmly, Come right in, I'm glad you're here with me again! Then we sit down and have a chat, Recalling this, discussing that, Until some task that I must do Forces me away from you— Reluctantly I say good-bye, Smiling with a little sigh, For though my dreams bring you near I wish that you were really here— But what reality can't change My dreams and wishes can arrange-- And through my wishing you'll be brought To me each day, a guest in thought. VARSITY GRIDDER ACTION After two long, hot and grueling weeks of breaking the football season (and each other) open the Badgers opened the season with a win against Boulder with a score of 12-6. The last game of the season Cascade played their country cousins and arch rivals, Simms. Cascade won the game 13-12 by Ron Strizich jumping on a loose ball in the end zone, thus giving a touchdown to every back on the starting team for the season. Ray Marxer was the only Badger to qualify for the state track meet at Billings, but due to a leg injury, Ray was unable to attend the state track meet. Ray also had the honor of being chosen captain for the track team. 68 STATE CHAMPIONS 1st Row-Vicky Strizich, Kathy Palm, Lois Perry, Lynda Lord, Phyllis Lord. 2nd Row-Debby Standley, Debra Wojtala, Della Wojtala, Ruth Pettapiece, Becky Berger, 3rd Row-Coach, Miss Joan Rose, KiVonne Tucker, Sue Cornelius, Colleen Moll, Sue Smith, Debra Mallory. Members of the team who went to state include Sue Cornelius, Lynda Lord, Colleen Moll, Debra Wojtala, Della Wojtala, Debra Mallory, Sue Smith, and Vickie Strizich. Each girl that went to state contributed to the big 25 points that far outstripped nearest contender Florence with 18. The girls proved for the third time that they were true champions by coming up with tremendous performances and a place in every event in which they were entered. Cascade holds all of the state B-C titles since the girls state track meet was started three years ago, and part of the praise must go to the Coach Joan Rose. In the field event finals Sue Cornelius leaped 16-4 for third place in the long jump, and took second in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.4. Freshman Vicky Strizich uncorked a personal best heave of 104-7 to place 5th in the discus. The 440 relay team of Deb Mallory, Lynda Lord, Colleen Moll, and Della Wojtala broke their own old state record of 52.0 by running it in 51.7, placing second. Sue Smith ran the 100 in 11.9, only . 2 of a second behind the new record of 11.7 - but had to settle for 5th place in the photo finish. Debby Mallory and Sue Smith both were clocked at 26.7 in the 220, but Mallory was second and Smith third in the race which saw Mallory's old record of 26. 5 beaten by a 26. 2 The 880 Medley relay team of Deb Mallory, Debra Wojtala, Lynda Lord, and Della Wojtala gave their all in smashing their old state record by almost two seconds as they ran the half mile in a flashing 1:54.6, regaining their old record. It was a great finish to a great season for the girls. The girls and their coach, Miss Joan Rose, were met at Craig Sunday afternoon by an enthusiastic crowd of fans and led by Deputy Sheriff Ken Anderson were convoyed into town where a rousing congratulatory party was held at the school gym-complete with hamburgers, hot dogs, and literally tons of potluck food. 70 3RD TIME IN A ROW Recuperating after a hard work out at track. CHEERLEADERS The Varsity cheerleaders and the B team cheerleaders had a successful year as they cheered on the mighty Cascade Badgers in both football and basketball. Debra Wojtala was chosen as cheer queen for the year, during the bonfire held early in the fall. Her responsibilities were to solve the problems that arise between the cheerleaders. Throughout the year, the cheerleaders made several attempts in raising money and were very successful. The Varsity cheerleaders held a car wash in the fall. The money was used for outfits during both football and basketball season. Also during the season, they sold carmel apples, popcorn balls, bumper stickers, and pins which helped in the payment of rooms at Havre. A pop bottle drive was also sponsored by the girls. The B team as well raised money for special needs. They held a coffee hour and also cleaned the Sportsmans Club recreational room. By wisely choosing Dave Smith as President, Jim Pollack as Vice-President, Della Wojtala as Secretary-Treasurer, and Debra Wojtala as Reporter, we began a year of excitement which included Initiation and winning second place in the Christmas skits. Convinced of the fact that time does fly, 42 of us found ourselves back the next year as silly Sopho- mores. With President Ron Fonton, Vice-President Mike McGuire, Sec-Treas. Sue Cornelius, and Reporter Della Wojtala, leading the way we again took second in the Christmas skits. Although the year started off with the disappointment of losing initiation to the Class of ‘69, things started looking up when Sophomores Dana Darko, Cheryl Hastings, and Lynda Lord won the offices of Vice-President, Secretary, and Reporter respectively in Student Council. By the end of the year we had the honor of having four Sophomore girls; Sue Cornelius, Colleen Moll, Della Wojtala, and Lynda Lord, bring home the State Champion Girl's Track trophy. Led by President Cheryl Hastings, Vice-President Sue Cornelius, Sec-Treas. Colleen Moll, and Re- porter Lynda Lord, we the jolly Juniors began an exciting and busy year. Our Junior Class Play entitled The Custers Last Stand turned out to be a smashing success. One success followed another when our Christmas skit took first place. Five proud Juniors; Mark Buckingham, Cheryl Hastings, Lynda Lord, Della Wojtala, and Debra Wojtala, were inducted into Honor Society. Girls State Delegates were Sue Cornelius and Margaret Belisle, with Cheryl Hastings and Lynda Lord as alternates. Boys State Delegates included Mark Buckingham, Dana Darko, and Mike McGuire, with alternates Randy Cox, Kenny McKamey, and Rocky Hocevar. Elaborate decorations and the theme A Time For Us , made our Junior Prom one that will be remembered by all. Once again with the help of an additional sprinter, Debra Wojtala, our Girl's Track Team brought home the State Class B Track trophy. Finally the year came when we became super Seniors or better yet the Class of 71 . Miss Rose, our class sponsor, has been with us three years and we owe her a lot of thanks, if not a medal for her out- standing courage and patience. With President Randy Cox, Vice-President Ray Marxer, Sec. -Treas. Glenna Smith, Reporter Margaret Belisle, and Historians Sue Cornelius and Cheryl Hastings, our class began its final year at Cascade High School. Lynda Lord and Mark Buckingham added to our class's prestige by being chosen Homecoming King and Queen. Our Christmas Ball with the theme of Drifting and Dreaming was highlighted by the coronation of King Dave Smith and Queen Sue Cornelius. This and our Senior Class play, Deadly Earnest were just some of the activities carried out by our energetic class. Dana Darko and Sharon Young again added honors to our class by being chosen President and Treasurer of our Student Council. Honors also went to Glenna Smith and Randy Cox, who along with the other five Seniors were inducted into Honor Society. Adding to the long list of great achievements made by our class was the fact that Janet Standley was chosen Valedictorian and Cheryl Hastings was chosen Salutatoriam Once again after 4 years of climbing upward, we are about to cross another threshold of life, a life which holds so many promises for all of us. 95 FROM THE PARENTS TO THE CLASS OF ’71 A£- ■ % ' Qj C, A ‘t '•% yr -6 «w y A?.
