CLASS HISTORY The class of '69 began high school with forty-one enthusiastic members led by President Jim Cornelius, Vice President Jim Turnbow, Secretary Judy Fraser, Treasurer Ava Yarger, Reporter Jerry Hammer, and Student Council Representative Cindy Salo. Initiation highlighted our Freshman year and seemed to really make us a welcome part of the student body. Among other accomplishments, our class was awarded second place for the Christmas skit that year. As Sophomores, we elected Doug Winterrowd, president; Tracy Marquiss, vice-president; Steve Parsons, secre- tary; June Trowbridge, reporter; and Susan Pettapiece, treasurer. We were proud to have had a member of our class elected to Student Council that year; Debbie Pollack, Student Council reporter, became the first elected official from the Class of '69. It was tradition for Sophomores to make the Freshmen welcome, and we gave them a memorable initiation. Second prize was ours again this year for our Christmas skit, ’’Sing Along With Sophs. During our first two years of high school, we trusted the advice of Miss Marjorie Morgenstern. She left us at this time, but we shall always remember her valuable assistance and shall be continually in her debt. Officers chosen for our Junior year included Steve Parsons, president; Tracy Marquis, vice-president; Judy Fraser, secretary; and Doug Winterrowd, treasurer. Steve Parsons and Debbie Pollack were elected to the Student Coun- cil as vice-president and as secretary respectively. Five proud Juniors, selected for their scholastic abilities and for their qualities of leadership, were inducted into National Honor Society: Melan Buck, Susan Pettapiece, Doug Winterrowd, Judy Fraser, and Lon Kirk. Other honors went to Boy's State delegates Dennis Belisle, Jim Cornelius, and Doug Winterrowd; Boy's State alternates included Lon Kirk, Joe McKamey, and Dennis Terry. Girl's State recipient was Susan Pettapiece, and Melan Buck was alternate. Jim Cornelius represented our class as co-editor of the Ketochi annual. The Junior influence on school activities included: 1st prize Homecoming float; second prize Christmas skit; a successful Junior class play entitled Bolts and Nuts; and a lovely Junior prom honoring the Class of '68. Privileged to serve the Class of '69 through the great Senior year were officers: Debbie Pollack, president; Steve Parsons, reporter, Jucy Fraser, vice-president; Dale Dear, secretary; Kathy Perry, treasurer; and Melan Biick, historian. This year we had the opportunity of being the first Senior class in school history to participate in Freshman initia- tion. Because of our previous experience, we were able to make this an even more enjoyable and memorable event for the Freshmen. Our Homecoming float and our Christmas skit both drew first place attention with the judges. Another first for the school was the event of our class having a baby! Kris Anderson Green, the first class baby in school history, was born to our advisor, Mrs. Donna Green, on January 29, 1969. Among the awards given to members of the Class of '69 during its Senior year were the admissions of Kathy Perry and Debbie Pollack to National Honor Society. The greatest honors, however, were bestowed upon Valedictorian Susan Pettapiece and Salutatorian Doug Winterrowd. We selected as our class Motto, A sure way to miss success is to miss the opportunity. Through our high school years, we have tried to achieve some measure of success in each endeavor. For such endeavors, we have received the assistance of Mrs. Green, who became sponsor of our class in the Fall of 1967. Our many, many thanks have been extended to Mrs. Green with the hope that someday we might be able to repay her for her understanding. In memoriam, we, the Class of 1969, dedicate this page to a classmate through our elementary years, Randy Ethridge, who died July 3, 1965. 1 1
