Roger Baker Brad Hamlett DEDICATION We, the Seniors of 1967, take great pride in de- dicating this Ketochi to Mr. Oscar B. Prestbo. As Superintendent of the Cascade Public Schools, Mr. Prestbo has willingly and with great integrity endeavor- ed to make our school the fine one that it is. He has also been the Director of the Cascade School Band in which both he and the community take great pride. The Class of 1967 feels, therefore, that it is most appropriate to dedicate our annual to someone who has done so much for us and given so unsparingly of him- self in our behalf. With this small token we wish to convey our sincere appreciation to you, Mr. Prestbo. 2 FOREWORD The theme of the 1967 Ketochi Is one of Patriot- ism. As citizens of the United States of America, we should all stop occasionally and remember those who have made this nation the great symbol of freedom and democracy that it is. We should also realize the responsibilities and rights given to us and endeavor to fulfill our duties as citizens. We, the Class of 1967, hope that our theme will serve as a remembrance and constant reminder of our great country and it's heritage. He has patiently worked with us our Junior and Senior years and has guided us through many hardships. Mr. Bull always lended an encouraging word in time of trouble and incessantly was there when help was most needed. Although, we may have never shown our appreciation for all you have done we truly want to say thanks. Officers of this active class were Beverly Dear, President; Mark Sanders, Vice-president; Judy Hetherton, Secretary; Terry Salo, Treasurer; and Brad Hamlett, Reporter. After our initiation, we felt we were truly a part of high school. Topping Freshman Knoll, we saw our duties and activities leveling out to definite responsibilities. Officers leading this ambitious class across Sophomore Plateau were President, Terry Salo; Vice-president, Mike Smith; Secretary, Brad Hamlett; Treasurer, Roger Baker; Reporter, Carol Murphy; and Historian, Eileen Marxer. Carol Murphy was our first Student Council representative, elected to the office of Reporter. We tried our hand at sock hops and freshman initiation, which were all very successful, from our point of view, at least. Mr. Haab, our class advisor, left us at the end of this year. We would like to express our thanks for all the help he gave us our first two years. Climbing up Junior Mountain, we found many activities to challenge us. The officers who lead us into the fray were Judy Hetherton, President; Terry Salo, Vice- president; Mark Sanders, Secretary; Roger Baker, Treasurer; Brad Hamlett, Reporter; and Julie Shumate, Historian. The Junior Play, entitled It's Great to be Crazy!”, and the Junior-Senior Prom, with its theme ”Moon River, constituted much work for the class. The fun we had working together and the satisfaction we received from a job well done, were ample compensations. Mark Sanders, Terry Salo, and Roger Baker were the delegates to Boy's State. The alternates were Brad Hamlett and Bob Marquis. Receiving Girls’ State honor were Judy Hetherton, delegate; and Julie Shumate, alternate. The four proud Juniors to be inducted into National Honor Society were Roger Baker, Julie Shumate, Karen McKamey, and Judy Hetherton. We were represented in Student Council by two elected members this year. Terry Salo was Vice-president and Julie Shumate was Secretary. Finally, we reached Senior Summit. Only 166 days of school left for the Seniors. Those who had the honor of being our last class officers were Mark Sanders, President; Carol Murphy, Vice-president; Jerry LeVeque, Secretary; Brad Hamlett, Treasurer; and Margaret Maxwell, Historian. Brad Hamlett, Terry Salo, and Sue Cox were the three Seniors chosen for Honor Society membership. Bob Marquis was President of Student Council and Sue Cox was Treasurer. Karen McKamey was Valedictorian and Julie Shumate was Salutatorian. Julie was also recipient of the D.A.R. Award, and winner of the Lion's Peace Essay Contest. Penny Hastings received the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award. Ed Hickel was recipient of a pin as the winner of the Math contest. King and Queen of the Homecoming were Mark Sanders and Cindie Webb. Roger Baker and Jan Pettit were crowned King and Queen for the Christmas Ball. Royalty for the Junior-Senior Prom were Bob Keyes and Carol Murphy. Mr. Wayne Bull, who inherited us from Mr. Haab, has been a very helpful class advisor. We would like to express our sincere thanks for all the time and effort he has spent for us. CLASS PROPHECY The year is 1977. Time has sped rapidly by since we left Cascade High after graduation in 1967 and already it is time for our reunion. Since the earth is so over- populated, we have decided to take a trip through outer space in a satellite owned by Terry Reeve. While we orbit through the Milky Way, each of us relates what he has accomplished since graduation. Judy Benner and Hilda Ferguson are the renowned proprietors of the Benferg- Hildy where only the finest cuisine is served. Mark Sanders, who started out in the Coast Guard, is now Admiral of the world's largest ocean-going vessel. His old buddy, Bob Marquis, is the star quarterback on the NFL Championship team. Joyce Winstead, who worked at the telephone company one summer, is now mar- ried to the billionaire, Mr. Bell. Jerry LeVeque recently won the Indianapolis 500 and the Grand Prix in a roadster that he designed. Leslie Moore is secretary to the Governor of Montana. Roger Baker was always quite a politician and he makes an even better governor. David Lemons now owns the largest cattle ranch in all Montana. He often requires the services of Terry Salo who took his doctorate in veterinary medicine at Yale. Because of his great sleuthing ability, Mike Smith has been commissioned as the Head Inspector of Scotland Yard. Judy Hetherton is still trudging the streets of New York as a social worker. It's not for money because she married a wealthy stockbroker. Sue Cox is currently appearing at the Copa Cabana where she is really the rage. She received a golden record for selling a million of her hit tune. Karen McKamey plays with the New York Philharmonic as feature flute and piccolo soloist. She is about to take a world tour with the orchestra. Virginia Lord was secretary to the Ambassador to Rome until she married a dashing Italian screen star. Julie Shumate is teaching English and French in the Swiss Alps, but she spends her leisure time writing best-selling novels at her chateau. Ed Hickel and Bob Keyes are co-owners of the largest firm of commercial artists in the U.S. They design many of the commercials used by a baby food company which is owned by Carol Murphy (Mrs. Keyes) and Penny Hastings (Mrs. Obrecht). At Saks Fifth Avenue, June Sanderson models the latest designs from Rome, Paris, and Carnaby Street. She and Cindie Webb share a penthouse suite overlooking Central Park. Cindie is currently appearing in a Broadway hit play. Marg Maxwell has become the most sought after hair stylist in the Western Hemisphere. She has won three Academy Awards for hairdos she has designed. Brad Hamlett is the finest lawyer in the business and it is expected that he will soon receive a seat in the Supreme Court of the U.S. Jan Pettit, who began as a CPA, is now president of a chain of accounting firms. She is also engaged to a wealthy Texas Oilwell owner. Eileen Marzer is private secretary to a millionaire businessman in South Africa. His business happens to be diamonds and she hopes to make it hers. We will be landing soon and it will be time once again to bid farewell to our friends from C.H.S. We hope that the next ten years prove to be as successful as these last years have been. 22 UNDERCLASSMEN FRONT ROW: Ken Mesaros, Pres.; Wes Teterud, Vice Pres.; Steve Belisle, Secretary. Those included in the gay parade were the floats representing the four high school classes, the band, and the convertible carrying the king and queen of Homecoming. The school spirit of everyone was at an all-time high when the mighty Badger gridders surged onto the gridiron for the game between the Cascade Badgers and the Power Pirates. This festive evening began with a hayride to which the girls brought box lunches for their dates. Covered with straw, the lively group then entered the school gym to dance to the raucous strains of the Missing Lynx. A special and unique feature of the affair was Marrying Sam who performed impromptu marriages which ex- pired at the stroke of midnight. The judges had a difficult time trying to select the best dressed boy and girl, but they arrived at a very satisfactory decision. Judy Hetherton (alias Marrying Sam ) and Duane Wojtala (the Sheriff) were chosen as King and Queen of Dogpatch.” DUANE WOJTALA and JUDY HETHERTON HOMECOMING ROYALTY Caroline gives Joe (Steve Belisle) a kiss on the cheek to prove to the Jet Set that he won their bet. Their heads are held high as they carry their candles which will be passed on to the Juniors. Mrs. Carlson's chorus lends a musical note to the Graduation exercises. The girls are dressed in a colorful array of formals. Miss Harriet Miller, Superintendent of Public In- struction, delivers her speech entitled Your Future and You. The Seniors are joyful because they are now about to enter the adult world, but perhaps a bit nostalgic also, remembering the great times they have had at C.H.S. GRADUATION Baccalaureate services for the Class of 1967 were held Sunday evening, May 21st in the School Gym. The Invocation was given by Reverend Moorehead. The Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Carlson, sang the beautiful and very appropriate HE and Green Cathedral. A very inspiring Baccalaureate Address was delivered by Rev. Fr. Crowley. Give of Your Best to the Master was the piano solo performed by Kathy McKamey. A moving rendition of Eternal Life was sung by Miriam Perry. The services were brought to a close as the Seniors marched out to the Recessional. The day which the Class of 1967 had long awaited finally arrived on May 22nd. Graduation exercises began as the capped and gowned Seniors marched down the aisle which was lined on both sides by Juniors who received the candles which the Seniors had been carrying. Reverend Moorehead again gave the Invocation. The Welcome Salutatory was delivered by Julie Shumate. A lovely piano solo, Born Free , was played by Linda Marxer. Karen McKamey then gave her Valedictory which was followed by two choral selections, My Favorite Things and Try to Remember. Your Future and You was the theme of the excellent speech given by Miss Harriet Miller, Superin- tendent of Public Instruction. Cindy Salo performed a touching vocal solo entitled, Tonight. Mr. Bull then presented the Class of 1967. Mr. Wm. Cummings, School Board Chairman, presented the diplomas to the graduating Seniors. The Seniors carried many fond memories with them as they marched out of the doors of Cascade High School and into a bright, new world. 83 The Seniors are really swinging at the Christmas skits!
