LOOKING FORWARD The year is 1984. I have been hired to find the members of the Class of '65 and what they are doing. Sam Sommers, author of HOW TO MAKE A MILLION WITHOUT LIFTING A FINGER is writing another book and wants to use some of his classmates' techniques for making money. The head of the FBI, Slick” Setzer is helping me. Slick discovered his interest in detective work while rehearsing for a play in his junior year in high school. We decided a visit to the fifty-first state, Mars, might be in order. We contacted John See for tickets to Mars. John is Commander of Operation Marspass. He has quite a lucrative business ferrying tourists between Mars and Earth. After phoning for reservations at the plush Mars Inn, we learned it was owned by none other than Bob Siebel. While driving around Mars, I remarked to Slick on the Greek atmosphere the olive groves and fig trees gave. We saw a worker pruning one of the trees so we stopped to talk. Im- agine our surprise to recognize Connie Flechsenhar, the first space traveler to land on Mars. She ex- plained that her reward was this large tract of land upon which she was raising olives, figs and little Greeks. We bade Connie goodby and returned to Earth. We arrived in time for a show at Madison Square Garden. President Kerry Obrecht and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Colleen Hetherton were there. The way Kerry used to argue in school, everyone knew he'd be a politician. Colleen speaks thirty-seven languages. She got her start with four years of French in high school. The first act is the world famous husband and wife high-wire team, the Dazzlers. Why it's Jim Benner and the former Vicky Halverson! The cool steady nerve Jim and Vic showed in high school sports is needed in this exhibition. Next on the program is the inventor of the thinking robot, Melvin Venetz. Melvin perfected the robot until it is almost human. To give it commands, just think of the com- mand, all the robots are equipped with ESP. Here's a well known voice, the Voice of Music, Carol Ann Belisle, Carol has had several hits, and has received three golden records, for record sales numbering over a million. A couple of cartoonists are scheduled next. Betty Goss, a protegee of A1 Capp's, has taken up where he left off so Li I Abner will continue getting in and out of scrapes. Kenny Ferguson has taken over the editing of MAD. He's now Alfred E. Neuman's right hand man. Here is the famous midget basket- ball team and their coach, Don Lee Murrill. They have been in the news recently because of their unex- pected victory over the Harlem Globetrotters, 81-35. Hear those golden notes! That has to be the new out space group of three young men. One is an alumnus of Cascade High School, Bill Terry. After graduating Bill grew a beard and formed his group known as Peter, Paul, and Terry. To finish the Madison Square Garden show with a touch of Old West, is Peggy Fraser and her Wild West show. After winning Rodeo Queen of the World, she formed a show and is touring the world. Slick and I caught a jet for Cascade to see what the old town was like and to see if we could find some of the Class of '65 there. A group of oil derricks were the first things we saw. These were owned by Walter Wilson. He was driving his pickup one day and when he dug out at a stop sign, he struck oil! Doug Kirk owns a ranch near here. He is experimenting with various breeds of cattle, trying to find a breed that will thrive on Martian vegetation. Calvin Duerr also has a ranch near Cascade, in fact he owns Cas- cade! He raises purebred Herefords and thoroughbreds. Calvin has raised four Kentucky Derby winners in the last ten years. A sports report shows the whereabouts of several members of the class. Danny Lashway is a race car driver. He has won first at Indianapolis for the last five years. Cathy Maxwell was a sprinter for the U. S. Olympic team. She won four gold medals before her retirement. After his graduation Bob Manning took up boxing. He won the Golden Gloves and is now the Middleweight Boxing Champion of the World. Also in the news is the appointment of Glenn Wade as conductor of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Glenn showed interest in conducting while in band in high school. Pauline Hocevar, an ultra modern fashion de- signer, unveiled her controversial sleeveless dress today. After the extreme lack of clothing during the Sexy Sixties, the fashion went to ankle length skirts, long sleeved blouses and turtleneck sweaters. We motored to Reno which is part of the Gambling Paradise owned by Paul Hocevar and Larry Caldwell. They also own Los Vegas and Tiajuana. They won them in a dice game. Barbara Moody is head blackjack dealer at the largest gambling hail in Reno. Bonnie O’Neill is quite a regular visitor. She is trying to figure a way to beat the odds and break the bank. We ran into that well known movie star, Cathie Cox, waiting for a divorce from her fifteenth husband. I asked her what the reason was this time and she replied, Dahling, one must spread one’s fabulous company around to give the poor men a chance for happiness! After rounding up the information on all these characters, I went to find Sam to collect my fee. There was no sign of him--not only does he know how to make money, he knows how to keep it! Slick and I set off to find him........ 21

LOOKING BACKWARD Well, here we are at the end of our journey. It has been a long trip, but one in which we have formed many memories. The first step was climbing the hill to white-wash the C in order to become a full fledged freshman. We started our freshman year with forty members, from which Jim McDonald was chosen president, Don Murrill-vice president, Bill Terry-secretary-treasurer and Vicky Halverson- reporter. Connie Flechsenhar and Colleen Hetherton were chosen as varsity cheerleaders for the year. The frosh girls were the volley ball champs for the year. Traveling the long winding road we finally came to Sophomore Cliff. Our number dropped to twenty- six with Calvin Duerr as president, Colleen Hetherton-vice president, Bill Terry-secretary-treasurer and Bonnie O'Neill-reporter. Connie Flechsenhar was elected to the Student Council as reporter. The sophomore's events began with the initiation of the lowly freshmen, the Homecoming activities and the Christmas skit. Vicky Halverson and Jim Benner were chosen as best dressed couple for the Sadie Hawkins Dance and Colleen Hetherton was the best dressed girl. Connie Flechsenhar was again chosen varsity cheerleader. Our first year as upperclassmen soon ended, climaxed with the ordering of our class rings. The next year we came upon the Rockslide of many activities. Our class roll increased to thirty-two, with Don Murrill as president, Paul Hocevar as vice-president, Colleen Hetherton as secretary, Connie Flechsenhar as treasurer and Vicky Halverson as reporter. Two of the main events were the class play called $10,000 Secret , and the Junior Prom entitled Over the Rainbow. Both were a lot of work, but were enjoyed by ail. We took the honors at the Sadie Hawkins Dance, with Connie Flechsenhar and Slick Setzer as best dressed couple and Colleen Hetherton as best dressed girl. We also won first place on our Homecoming float, with the theme of Just Bet on the Badgers! Colleen Hetherton and Connie Flechsenhar were again elected as varsity cheerleaders. The secretary for the Student Council was Vicky Halverson. The students chosen from our class to represent our school at Boys' State were: Paul Hocevar and Bob Siebal and alternates Don Murrill and Kerry Obrecht. The Girls' State delegate was Colleen Hetherton and alternate Vicky Halverson. The junior girls placed second in the volley ball tourney. Here we are, mighty seniors with an enrollment of twenty-seven members. We elected officers for the last time. They were Paul Hocevar-president, Jim Benner-vice president, Colleen Hetherton - secretary, Bill Terry-treasurer, and Pauline Hocevar-reporter. Annual Staff officers were also elected with Bonnie O'Neill as editor, Bob Siebel and Vicky Halverson as Co-assistant editors and Cathie Cox as business manager. The activities for our senior year were enough to keep us more than busy. The senior girls won first in the volley ball tournament. A girls' basketball tournament was held this year between the classes. The boys were the cheerleaders. Connie Flechsenhar, Colleen Hetherton and Vicky Halverson were elected as cheerleaders for the year. Colleen Hetherton was elected as president of the Student Council and Cathie Cox was appointed as treasurer. Colleen was also chosen as FFA Sweetheart, chosen as the DAR Good Citizen, and she also won first place in the Elks Leadership Contest. Bonnie O'Neill won the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award . Bonnie O'Neill, Cathie Cox and Peggy Fraser represented Cascade at Bozeman at High School Week. Connie Flechsenhar, Colleen Hetherton and Kerry Obrecht showed their talents at the State Music Festival in Missoula. Senior Royalties included Pauline Hocevar and Bob Manning--Homecoming, Vicky Halverson and John See--Christmas Ball, Winter Holiday , Colleen Hetherton and Jim Benner--Rose Ball and Peggy Fraser and Pat (Slick) Setzer--Junior Prom. We won first place on Homecoming floats with our Open Season Elks , and won first place on the Christmas skits. At last it was announced that Bonnie O'Neill was valedictorian and Cathie Cox was saiutatorian of the Class of 1965 . We thank Mr. Cornelius for putting up with us these past four years. They were a struggle, but it was fun. It seems like only yesterday we were freshmen and now our title or mighty seniors is past, but it will never be forgotten. Our final good-by was said on May 24, 1965, to all our friends. We will always cherish our years at CHS because we may never pass this way again.
