The period extending from September 1963 through June 1968 witnesses many occurrences which have a particular effect on the members of our class. We, the annual staff have worked toward portraying those phases which cannot be absolutely classed academic or highly intellectual—but phases which form a vital part of high school life. The day-by-day activities have been so arranged so that in later years as we reminisce, we can relive those exciting and rewarding days at Carver High. We hope that this volume presents these past years' phases in a manner that captures “that old Trojan Spirit which accompanies the students' endeavors to hold aloft that prized “torch of knowledge.” itcdLy Annice L. (£htWs Message On behalf of the 1968 Trojan annual staff, I take great pride and pleasure in expressing my deepest gratitude and appreciation for having been chosen to serve in the production and publication of this yearbook. In the years ahead, as you browse through this yearbook and relive the happy and ever lasting memories of schoolmates, teachers, and events that have highlighted your memories and desires to accomplish the worth- while things in life and to live up to the best that is within you. May your life echo the words of the prayer St. Francis of Assisi: Lord make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy; Oh, Divine Master, grant that I may seek not so much to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned. And it is in dying that we are bom to eternal life. Also I wish for you, all the success to which you are entitled, and all the happiness and pleasures that the life you live justifies. Keep looking up, out, and forward, life is just an employer who will pay no mftre than you earn! ✓ Vonnie M. Barnes Editor-in-Chief

3ln Menumam ARTHUR HILL JOHNSON There must be a reason we can’t see, There must be a reason why, A reason that we must take on faith, As we do the sun on high ... There must be an answer why it is Someone who enjoyed life so. Someone who is so dear to us. Suddenly has to go ... Life is a journey, so we are told. For some, long ... for others, brief, A journey on which we ail find joy Mingled with sadness and grief ... Try to remember the joy today. However hard it may be. And trust you'll find comfort When you know The reason you now can't see.
