The Music Department of G. W. Carver High School seeks to instill a true sense of appreciation in its student body. This task has been fulfilled through numerous excur- sions to area concerts to hear the finest or- chestral productions and vocalists possible. The beauty of sound and purity of listen- ing pleasure have immeasurably consum- mated the ultimate of cultural achievement with the Carver student body. MRS. MARGARET P. DAVIS Chairman - Music Department The Art subdivision seeks to emphasize not only the components of neo-classical tradition but also creativity in pop art . The instructors broaden their spectrum of the lively arts to extend into its every phase: that of abstract, molding, sculpture, and even into non-objective painting. Contrary to the belief of the artist as an isolated breed apart from the world of reality, our gifted proteges have sought unity with their school and in analysis have accomplished breaking the barrier of ignorance once en- gulfing his image. Entertaining displays of their works hang in our corridors as a con- stant reminder of this new man, the artist. MR. W. ROLLINS Chairman - Arts Department

In our industrial arts classes we endeavor to train the hands as well as the mind. With- in the walls of the industrial arts building, boys are learning to make a piece of wood or leather come alive and take form. These men may build our roads and construct our bridges. No matter how large or small the jobs, their task is important for themselves as well as others. MR. WALTER DAVENPORT Chairman - Industrial Arts The Home Economics Department of G. W. Carver High School seeks unity of mankind working through the basic social unit, the home and family. Their ideals are exemplified and manifested in their doc trines of love, kindness, purity, as are all taught within the American family. The young ladies of our school shall be forever benefited by the principles inscribed in their hearts by so worthy a profession as home- making. MRS. MARGARET S. JONES Chairman - Home Economics Department

MR. THEODORE B. DeGROAT Chairman - Commercial Department Big business based upon a system of free private enterprise underlies the American economy. Likewise, the commerce of America, tied in with her democracy in labor and management relations which builds such a system as mentioned, is supported by those who endeavor to strengthen her eco- nomic state in fields of commerce, business, administration, and secretarial work. The G. W. Carver Commercial Department has widened new horizons for our students, there- by giving them a share in the history of greatness and prestige America now holds. Our Library has always been a site of concentrated and proper study, of diligent research on every and all fields. Eager students utilize its facilities now more than ever as a pledge to the intelli- gence of American youth and their ample abilities to recognize the necessity of true study. MRS. JULIA J. YANCEY Librarian
