Plagued on all fronts by torments of chaos in the forms of hate, distrust, unscrupulous living, and the zenith of destructive force, in war, America must remain cognizant and of her roles, and position, and responsibility, as are set forth in U. S. Government, Ameri- can and World History courses offered in our institution. These classes remain the prime source of all pertinent information expected of informed students. MR. N. JONES Chairman - Social Studies Physical fitness is a demand of our time. A strong body contributes to a strong mind. The purpose of our Physical Education and Health Department is to develop recreational skills and make a direct contribution to our education. MR. W. B. COLEMAN Chairman - Health and Phys. Ed. Dept.

Members of the mathematics staff, con- tinuously strive to open new horizons to stu- dents in the subdivisions of general mathe- matics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and advanced mathematics. The principles and concepts which they relate in detail to the Carver student body, not only prepare students for the demands they must meet in a society which grows continuously more technical, but enables them to explore more deeply this evergrowing field of science. It is of major importance that students are not only instilled with standard axioms and prin- ciples, but are inspired to seek the new, the unknown. MRS. E. CHRISTIAN Chairman - Mathematics Department An essential portion of the education of our students is provided by the foreign lan- guage department, which is composed of Spanish and French subdivisions. The dedi- cated teachers of this field (Miss E. Jones, Mrs. K. Brown, Mr. W. Roseboro) seek to acquaint students, not only with the conver- sational and written language, but with the history and culture of its origin country as well. In the newly added language laboratory, students become associated with the standard dialect of French or Spanish as it is spoken by its respective countrymen, thus develop- ing fluency in speaking. MISS E. JONES Chairman - Foreign Language

In our industrial arts classes we endeavor to train the hands as well as the mind. With- in the walls of the industrial arts building, boys are learning to make a piece of wood or leather come alive and take form. These men may build our roads and construct our bridges. No matter how large or small the jobs, their task is important for themselves as well as others. MR. WALTER DAVENPORT Chairman - Industrial Arts The Home Economics Department of G. W. Carver High School seeks unity of mankind working through the basic social unit, the home and family. Their ideals are exemplified and manifested in their doc trines of love, kindness, purity, as are all taught within the American family. The young ladies of our school shall be forever benefited by the principles inscribed in their hearts by so worthy a profession as home- making. MRS. MARGARET S. JONES Chairman - Home Economics Department
