CLASS POEM CLASS SONG Dear ole faithful Carver High School, We will never forget this, All the things we strived to do, Wouldn't have been possible without you. As we go on and strive for the best, We'll remember the question: Have you seeked the rest? Then once more remember your Carver High School Where without we'd seek from worst to less. Heavens bless our Carver High School, May you continue to produce the rest, To strive, and try hard for only the best, Then who would want anything less. Thanks, parents, principal, teachers, You took part in our battles too, So now there's only one thing, left to say, Good-bye, farewell dear Carver High School. (Tune of Gaudeamus Igitur, by Brahms) Dear ole Carver time is nigh Time to leave our school so dear We will miss you very much We will never forget you. (Chorus) Teachers, friends and principal You have all been wonderful We extend our thanks to you May god bless each one of you. We have done our very best Now it's to us to fulfill our goals Now it's time to bid farewell To our school we love so dear. Gfass Jf s ory Our past rises before us like an exotic dream. We see ourselves in the mist of the harbor lights boarding a huge ocean liner to prepare ourselves for a great voyage of success. The expenditure for this trip only costs us a small quantity of knowledge which we intended to grasp along the way. On a pleasant and exciting day in September 1960, an assemblage of approximately one hundred one freshmen crowded the deck at Carver High School. We were preparing for the long voyage across the oceans of achievement. During that first year aboard the ocean liner with our surroundings a bit strange, we finally made it with the help of our advisors, Miss P. Y. Malloy, Mrs. N. G. Washingtion, Miss L. G. Mouring and Mr. M. A. Blount. Our Freshman year was closed with many honors in such fields as Science, English, and Mathematics. At the close of the freshman year, we were then transferred to the sophomore cabin with our advisors being Mr. L. H. Clark, Mr. J. A. Creech, and Mr. E. L. Mason. This year appeared to go along just fine because we were better acquainted with our surroundings. Some of our classmates filled positions in such activities as Glee Club, N.H. A. , N.F. A. , and the Dra- matics Club. This year was concluded with some of our students winning many honors on Award's Day. As we floated onward over the waves on the oceans of achievement, the summer months quickly passed. In the fall of 1962, we were then assigned to our junior cabin. At that time we were really on the ball. Our advisors for that prosperous year were: Miss G. V. Edwards, Mrs. G. G. Whitley, and Mr. S. Miles. Many of our students were still members of various organizations. Those students who were inducted into the National Honor Society were: Betty Bennett, Sylvia, Gwyndella Wilson, Linda Pigford, David Evans, Annie Hill, Mary Durham, Barbara Sampson, Mary Barfield, McCellar Atkinson, Carolyn Worrell, James Cromartie, Roosevelt Jones, and William Glispie. Carolyn Manley, Sylvia Kornegay and Carolyn Worrells were presented as 1962 Cinderellas by the Aka Sorority. Carolyn Manley and Linda Pigford were chosen to enter the District Typing Contest. As our voyage continued we began preparing for our Junior-Senior Prom. The theme of the prom was Rhapsody in Gay Paree which was thought to be a very excellent one. From this successful class the following students were elected as officers: David Evans, President, Ruffin Loftin, Vice President, Carolyn Worrells, Secretary, Annie Hill, Assistant Secretary, Mary Durham, Reporter, Nathaniel Robinson, Treasurer, and Richard Monk, Parliamentarian. One of our classmates, Annie Hill, while in our junior cabin was successful enough to be able to enter an early admission at Shaw University where she is majoring in English. Now in the fall of 1963, we were once again assigned to a cabin in the ocean liner. This day many of us had been looking forward to for such a long time and that was being assigned to our senior cabin. Some entered this cabin with sad faces; others with glad ones. But deep down inside all of us were very proud to know of all the knowledge gained while traveling this long trip aboard this great ocean liner. This last, but happy year was really successful with our advisors being Mrs. F. S. Smith and Mr. C. Stevens. With Richard Monk as President of our senior cabin, we elected along with him: David Evans, Vice President, Carolyn Worrell, Sec- retary, Betty Bennett, Assistant Secretary, Barbara Sampson, Treasurer, Ruffin Loftin, Reporter, and Swindell Sutton, Parliamentarian. Mary Durham and Betty Ward were introduced to society at the AKA Debutante Ball in Raleigh, North Carolina, while Katie Flanagan was presented as a Cinderella by the AKA Sorority in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Also Sylvia Kornegay was crowned Miss Carver and her attendants were: Mary Barfield, Betty Bennett, Mary Durham, Linda Pigford, Gwyndella Wilson, and Carolyn Worrell. Although these are our last days here at Carver, we are very happy and proud of these last four years which were spent here. With the help of our teachers, our principal, and students who were here before us, we were very successful and we sincerely thank them for the kindness shown to help make us a very successful class of 1964. Historian Carolyn Worrell
