Our Progressive O c minis ra or Our principal, Mr. G. C. Hawley is a progressive administrator. He became principal of Carver High School in the fall of 1961. Because of his excellent training and wide experience our school is moving for- ward rapidly. Mr. Hawley holds degrees from Lincoln University, North Carolina College and the University of Pittsburgh. His experiences include that of elemen- tary principal, high school principal, union school principal and high school teacher. During the administration of our dynamic principal Carver High has made significant progress and has ex- perienced much growth and expansion. The faculty has increased from fifty-one teachers to fifty-seven, and the enrollment fifteen hundred fifty to seventeen hundred pupils. Five special teachers have been em- ployed: two for physical education, one music, an ele- mentary librarian and a full time guidance counselor. Eight additional classrooms have been provided. Much needed equipment has been purchased for the Lunchroom, Office, Home Economics, Agriculture, In- dustrial Arts, Commercial Education, Guidance, Pho- tography, Athletic, Library, Music and Special Educa- tion Departments. Teaching aids and instructional supplies have been provided in large amounts. Approximately five thou- sand dollars have been spent for library books, news- papers, magazines and periodicals.
