These last four years of our long struggle were filled with work, happiness and excitement. We have tried to recreate and to preserve some of these moments in the Tiger of 1963. As we continue our onward march, we shall never forget Dear Carver High. We shall always try to employ to the very best of our abilities, the many skills and principles which we have obtained here. EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Patricia Kornegay 3 )k 'DecUcatcott The Members of the Senior Class of 1963, proudly dedicate their class annual to their parents and teachers. We dedicate this collection of our cherished memories to you, to humbly express our gratitude for the inspiration and guidance which you have given us during our years in school. Without your constant guidance and inspiration, we feel that we would never have reached this goal. To our teachers, we shall use the many principles which you have given us to continue to achieve and to improve. To our parents, who have made many sacrifices for us, we shall always honor you and make you proud of us. This, the 1963 CARVER TIGER, which we dedicate to you is our very small way of saying Thank you. MR. G. C. HAWLEY, Principal To a senior class which has been busy throughout its four-year era at this institution, I am glad to extend my congratulations. A review of personalities, belonging to members of the Class of 1963, brings pleasant memories. This has been an active class, a remarkable group, a promising set of young men and young women. Activities and programs of the school and com- munity have been led and promoted by many of you. You have shown tenacity of purpose in your pursuit of learning. You have ranked high in competitive events; you have cheered and inspired persons in other classifications to the extent that growth and development of the school have been enhanced by your presence here. I trust that your educational experiences at Carver High School will ever serve as sources of strength for you as you join other life functions. The entire faculty, parents, and other school supporters join me in, wishing you Bon Voyage. Mr. G. C. Hawley Principal 5 MR. J. O. BENNETT Physical Education A T College MR. M. A. Motto: Out of The Harbor Into The Sea On a moderate day in September, 1959, a ship docked at the harbors of Carver High School. Aboard this ship were about one hundred thirty-two sailors. Mrs. Fox, Miss Malloy, Miss Edwards, and Mr. Clark were appointed as captains of our ship. They clearly and carefully explained to us the many trials and tribulations that were waiting to face us on the four seas. As we entered the first sea, Freshman, we immediately organized our crew and began to work. Many of our sailors ventured into various activities and courses. Some of our sailors were highly honored and given special awards for the outstanding tasks which they performed. Among the honored were: Clara Grady, Corine Musgrave, Patricia Kornegay, Joseph Moore, Margaret Oates, Annette Barfield, Betty Taylor, Curtis Lofton, Gladys Battle, Thomas Elliott, and many, many others. As we continued our sail, many sailors found it impossible to journey on with us, and docked at the nearest shore. Before tackling our second sea, Sophomore, we docked for a brief rest, and our sailors had decreased to one hundred ten. We were patiently and courageously guided through our second voyage by Miss Ed- wards, Mrs. Washington, Miss Mouring, and Mr. Hickerson. All of the sailors were very excited and eagerly looked forward to the third voyage, Junior. However, as before, some of our sailors were lost. In September 1961, we set out on our third voyage with much excitement and anticipation. We speedily organized our crew and were directed under the leadership of Tony Forbes, president; Clara Grady, vice president; Hilda Raynor, secretary; and Joseph Moore, treasurer. These members were such outstanding sailors that they received special honor, by being inducted into the National Honor Society: Annette Barfield, Corine Musgrave, Clara Grady, Gladys Battle, Patricia Kornegay, Thomas Elliott, Joseph Moore, and Curtis Lofton. Our ship was rapidly approaching The Oriental Gardens. Upon our arrival we docked for an evening of fun, relaxation, and enjoyment. The seniors and faculty were invited to share in this evening of enchantment. 12 Having passed triumphantly through the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Seas, we entered very proud ly the sea of Seniority. Mrs. Clark, Mr. Clark, and Mr. Creech, steered us through the final and long awaited destination. We were also guided by our officers which included Thomas Elliott, president; Joseph Moore, vice president; Clara Grady, secretary; Elizabeth Smith, treasurer; and Corine Musgrave and Hilda Raynor, reporters. Carrie Roberts and Elizabeth Smith, two of our sailors, were formally introduced to society at the Cinderella Ball. Also, our crew docked at Durham, North Carolina for a brief tour of North Carolina College. Having endured the many trials and hardships which faced us, we were finally rewarded for having made our four voyages at our Graduation Exercises. Class Historian Thomas Elliott CLASS FLOWER Rose CLASS COLORS Blue and Gold POEM SONG Dear Carver, we've found you good and true, And how we love your gold and blue. Your Alma Mater, we'll never forget But always remember it with our greatest respect. Dear old Carver High Our thanks to thee we give, For your guiding hand and for Your kindness too. Tune: He' Dear Principal, and teachers, you're dearest to our hearts, And it is with deep sorrow that we shall depart. The many years, we've stayed here Have filled us with kindness, goodwill and cheer. We give thanks to teachers And our principal too. We know only with your help We've progressed through. So now we are bidding farewell to you For we have other work to do. We'll remember that success is not borrowed, For followers of today, are leaders of tomorrow. Though we must leave The dear Old Gold and Blue, We shall sadly say adieu to All of you. Here we leave our memories, And our happiness to you. Oh Carver High farewell To you.
