Our first step up the ladder of success began with Mr. Tolbert, Mrs. Durante, Mrs. Washington, Mr. Hickerson and Mr. McClain. We were successful enough to have a number of honor students. We over came many hardships and trials as the year passed away, leaving us to face the fun of summer; thus completing the first step up the ladder of success. The climb for the second step began in the fall of 1958, with a smaller crew than the year before. Nevertheless, some of the members of our crew achieved fame that is worth noticing. Ollie Wilson and Mary McKnight attended the typing contest in Warsaw, North Carolina, with Mary McKnight winning second place. Climbing the third step was one filled with enthusiasm, endurance and anticipation. The year started off with a bang under the direction of Mrs. Washington, Mr. Gatling and Mr. Mann. Many of our members made the honor roll. Lois Boseman was chosen to attend the Cinderella Ball of 1960. Geraldine Best attended the Debutante Ball. Christine Cox was chosen as President of the Student Council. In May of this year we were fortunate to have chosen May Queen, Shirley Bass a member of the Junior Class. Approching was the event we had looked forward to since 1957 - our Junior and Senior Prom. The theme of our prom was, Stairway to the Stars. It was well en- joyed and was considered a smash-hit of the year. Having achieved dignity and pride, we began the fourth and final step up the ladder of success, and was most privleged and proud to call our- selves dignified Seniors. We were faced with many complex problems but we had the help of two competent advisors, Miss Hardy and Mr. Creech to guide us. The fourth step was completed but our future is still up to fate. To our parents, Carver High, and its wonderful faculty, we owe the shaping of our future. Class Historian Mary Frances Armwood 42 CLASS POEM Oh ! Dear Carver High, old gold and blue, We've reached the fourth step up the ladder to success And we owe it all to you. You've helped to make our future a bright and happy one, And because we've striving for the better things in life We haven't finished but we've just begun. Now the time has finally come when we must part, We hate to leave you Carver Dear But we leave with love in our hearts. Lennett Robertson CLASS SONG We give our thanks to C. H. S. For all her grateful deeds, The knowledge gained here will someday Help fill our nations' needs. So to our teachers who have helped To make our dreams come true. We'll never forget, though years may pass, The praise belongs to you. Though we must leave and go our way. And think of what we left. We'll never forget the chance we got, From the good ole C. H. S.
