They are encountered with the opportunities and responsibilities of our present society. The primary necessity for becoming a capable citizen is to decide things for yourself rather than blind acceptance. Surrounded by peers of diversified attitudes and abilities, each pupil must decide for himself what course in life he will take. One’s mental development is measured by his status as a sophomore, junior or senior. Graduation from Carver Junior and Senior High School is the summit of the uppermost point of life. Status President Vickie Wright Assistant Secretary Deborah Tillman Vice President Edward Plowden Treasurer Tony Jackson Secretary Theresa Capers Financial Secretary Janet Benejamin I Senior Class of 1969 It is difficult for a senior to tell what it is and what it means to be a senior. It has been a magic and often a trying year. Prospect, reluctance, relief, each was a part of this special year which may never be recovered. The class rings, the prom, the senior assemblies, homecoming festivities and finally commence- ment exercises are only a few of the major events of the year. What senior can forget the rush to finish term papers, the dis- may of losing during football season, the victorious basketball games, and the dreaded semester exams? The Class of 1969 is one of the most outstanding ever to graduate from Carver. It has been a successful year and one which we will never forget. 24 Valedictorian Salutatorian Barbara Nichols Janet Benjamin 25 Jacqueline Austin Nickname; “Stormy” Activities: Student Council Ambition: Secretary Motto: “A true friend is the greatest of possessions” Melvin Atwater Nickname: “At H20” Activities: Hi Y Ambition: Engineer Motto: “Never turn down anything but your shirt collar Senior Class Dennis Bradley Nickname: “Lee Con” Activities: Basketball, Track, Block C, Chorus Ambition: Draftsman Motto; “Vanity, Vanity, aU is vanity” Janie Barr Nickname: “James Bond” Activities: Spanish Club, Chorus, Dance group, Usher’s Club, Health Careers Club Ambition; IBM Executive Motto: “Strive for the best and take nothing less” Rosa Ban Nickname; “Rosie” Activities: Health Careers Club Ambition: Nurse Motto: “Strive for the best of everything in life” Janet Benjamin Nickname: “Twiggy” Activities: Concert and Jazz Bands, Block C, Annual Staff, Newspaper Staff Ambition: Social Science Instructor Motto: “Live for today, for tomorrow may never come” 26 Beatie Brown Nickname: “Bea” Activities: I.C.T.
