CLASS HISTORY It was in the year of '51 when we, the senior class of 54-55 entered the Carver Consol- idated School. We were the first eighth graders to enter the new school. Our freshman year began with Elizabeth Moore, President, Annie West, Secretary; and Geneva Lyons, Treasurer. We started off with the determination to have big things happen- ing in our class. In our sophomore year we were fortunate to have the following persons represent our class in the Dramatic Club: James Byrd, Clarence Massey, and Gilmer Watson. Robert Ervin, Lester O. Speas, David Little, and Felecia Martin were having great success in the school band. Jean Miller was an attendant to Miss Carver High. Entering our junior year we were very excited over our class rings and the Junior Senior Prom. We had the following participating in the Glee Club: Shirley Randleman, James Byrd, Annie West, Molly Shouse, Mary Staten, Ruby Gray, Ralph Settle and many others. With our junior year being the most successful yet, we were anxious to return as seniors the following year. Due to a disquantity of words we cannot express our thanks to those who made it possi- ble for our success thus far. Our attention is drawn to our principal Mr. C.R. Martin, who has worked so hard and long to help us reach our goal. We are indeed greatful to our senior sponsors, Mrs. V. J. McNeal and Mr. E. E. Balsley, who have worked so hard to make it a successful year at Carver. We would also like to thank our guidance counselor, Mrs. Hedgley for helping us to decide on the future, through Career Day. During our senior year we had Jo Ann Williams, President; Barbara Ann Payne, Secre- tary; Jean Miller, Reporter; John Jones, Treasurer. We were also fortunate to have Barbara Payne represent us as Miss Carver High. This year we were fortunate to win the game for the second consecutive year with, Lester O. Speas, Carl Rice, Emanual Johnson, David Little, James Byrd, Macon Patton, Robert Watts and Samuel Couthen playing their final and best game. Sorry, Mr. Lash and Mr. Foxwell, but we must take them with us. The bas- ketball team is also loosing, James Byrd, Lester O. Speas, Samuel Couthen, and Robert Hicks, and James Harris. In the final hour we are very greatful to Mrs. V. A. Wiseman for toiling night and day preparing for our final masterpiece, the annual. It has been five long years since 1951, the year we entered the new and finest school in the South. We have enjoyed every moment of the stay, however, the best of friends must part someday. We are very greatful for the knowledge, help and services we have received from every member of the faculty. We hope that other seniors will be as fortunate as we were, in securing positive and negative criticisms from the teachers and administrative staff, which has made us much stronger and gives us a greater determination to do a better job. Even though we must leave physically, mentally and spiritually, we will always be a part of this beautiful edifice. JEAN MILLER, Historian

CLASS PROPHECY Dum te dum dum. The facts you are about to hear are true. This story has no specific setting because it takes place in different parts of the world. The names are true in order that you might see the progress made by the graduates of 1955. It is now 1975. Our story starts with Barbara Payne who is now Supervisor of the Commercial Department at N. C. College, Durham. Her most com- petent assistants are: Minnie Brown, Annie Johnson, Johnnie Matthews, Ruby Gray and Bertha Huntley. Taking a plane cruise to Washington D. C. with Leroy Nelson pilot, who is making a career of it | find the following people employed in various places there and they are Bettye Joe Greene, Secretary to Dr. Mordecai Johnson, president of Howard University. Going around the City to get a few more facts | find the following young ladies doing quite capably the job of nurs- ing, Margie Conrad, Mollie Shouse, Emily Mitchell, Alberta Hughes and Vernice Waddell with their supervisors Jean Miller and Geneva Lyons. Going over to New York on the train crossing the Hell's Gate Bridge | recognized Henry Shouse as an architectural engineer replanning the bridge. In New York City | ran into some difficulties but | was quickly helped by three wonderful Social Workersand they were Darlene Bailey, Doris Hemphill and Thomas Jackson. From New York | traveled by bus to Storrs, Connecticut to accept my position as resident physician at the University Infirmary. My job has begun but on my afternoon off | watch television. Watching the World Series | notice that Harold Coleman has taken Jackie Robinson's place with the Dodgers and Carl Rice is their manager. | don't get lonesome here becasue | am working with Donald Thomas a laboratory technician, and Emily Hairston is a nurse. Communicating with different graduates, I find that Lester O. Spease is Coach of the University of N.C., Blue Devils. Barbara Dark, James Harris and James Brockman are-Supervising technicians at the Grace Hospital in Detroit. Walter Wallace and Roger Tyner are owners of a construction firm there now. It is now summer again and the employ- ees here decide to come to North Carolina for their vacation. We decided to drive down and on our way we stopped ata filling station to get gas and while we were there | suddenly recognized Johnny Correll gasing his car and he is a traveling salesman. Wilbur McCoy is now principal of Carver and his staff includes the following: Annie West, Jo Ann Williams, Wilma Hairston, Shirley Randleman, Jean Carson, Clarence Massey, Charlene Conrad, James Nelson and Lester B. Spease is Football Coach. Robert Norwood is Vocational Agriculture teacher with Frank Coltrane as assistant. Robert Hicks and Gilmer Watson are instruc- tors at A. T. College, Greensboro, N. C. Going to Kate Bittings to finish the facts on this case we find James Banner, Business Administrator with Ervin Phillips, physician and Mary Staten, Lucille Cooley, Vernice Waddell, Virginia Johnson and Barbara Jones as graduate nurses. A return to work without going to church would be awful so | decided to visit one of the churches here and | found James Byrd as minister carrying out wonderful services. Sitting beside me in church was Emanuel Johnson and Macon Patton who are coaches at the great Atlantic University. John Stone is home on leave and he is a career paratrooper. Before leaving we decided to have our hair dressed and Virginia Eldridge and Georgia Laughlin are swell beauticians. My investigation is over but | should like to keep in contact for the facts on this class, the greatest class, the class of 1955. FELECIA MARTIN
