45 Latherville fDiscontinuedJ Sparks Loreley SENIOR HI ' LITES The summer of nineteen - forty soon ended, and we were back in school. We had many additions to our class. The year before, Lutherville, Longgreen, and Carver elementary schools had sent us to Carver High to make up the class of 52 . Although seven people were forced to discontinue their studies in our first year, Chattolanee, Sparks, Loreley, and Shepperd Sent eighth graders to swell our ranks to 62. Due to this enlargement we were separated into two sec - tions. Mrs. Juanita Augustus and MissLouise Pyles, both lov - able and intellectual people, were our homeroom teachers . The memory of the second year shall always linger with us. The lovely days in Science doing experiments, the Music periods, when we had voice training, the Home Economics periods when the girls tried their skills in cooking and sewing and the boys practiced their skill inthe old shop building - - these memories shall always be with us. In Physical Education we used our excess energy by taking advantage of all the oppor - tunities offered. We participated in intramural games dur ing the entire year. During the year we lost three more of our class to the world of work. Longgreen fDiscontinuedJ Chattalanee Shepperd , -X X Y v
