Six years of learning from the halls of opportunity are ours. The students are very busy this closing year. A year which we have looked forward to has come and soon will carry us out into the world of our unforeseen future. Before going, the class of 52 wished to say their farewells and have their last fragments of joy in the Carver High School. lt seems as if just yesterday was September the eighth, nineteen hundred and forty - six. The trees were green, the birds were singing, and the sun shone brightly. It was a beautiful day when 42 eager pupile registered in the old Carver High School, which then consisted of the present Elementary School building, The Elks Hall, the basement of the St. James A, U, M,P, Church, and an annex used for shop work. Our backgrounds were varied as we hailed from elementary schools all over the northern section of Baltimore county. Some of the schools have been since discontinued, victims of a new progressive era. The class of 52 are pioneers under the new 6 - 3 - 3 system of education. During the last six years we have watched all of the elementary schools slowly changed until now, none have more than six beginning grades. Ofour beginning schools, Luthervllle and Longreen have been closed, and Shepperd finally sent its last seventh grade to us at the beginning of the new year, 1952. We had many additions to our class. The year before, Lutherville, Longgreen, and Carver elementary schools had sent us to Carver High to make up the class of 52 . Although seven people were forced to discontinue their studies in our first year, Chattolanee, Sparks, Loreley, and Shepperd Sent eighth graders to swell our ranks to 62. Due to this enlargement we were separated into two sec - tions. Mrs. Juanita Augustus and MissLouise Pyles, both lov - able and intellectual people, were our homeroom teachers . The memory of the second year shall always linger with us. The lovely days in Science doing experiments, the Music periods, when we had voice training, the Home Economics periods when the girls tried their skills in cooking and sewing and the boys practiced their skill inthe old shop building - - these memories shall always be with us. In Physical Education we used our excess energy by taking advantage of all the oppor - tunities offered. We participated in intramural games dur ing the entire year. During the year we lost three more of our class to the world of work. Our class was now fifty nine strong, Our homeroom teacher was Mr, Willie Williams, Overcrowded conditions forced us into the basement of the St, James Church . Since our homeroom was filled to its capacity, the class took many responsibilities upon themselves that they knew would be overlooked by the teacher. Our class was known as the most Outstanding one ever to enter Carver, because we tried to take advantage of our homeroom teacher, Now that we had reached the ninth grade, we were per - mitted to participate in extra - curricular activities, Some of HI - LITE these were baseball and touch - football, We did not part - icipate in basketball because we did not have the necessary facilities. Because we had a desire to engage in activities other than baseball and football, we longed for a new school which would provide the things necessary. When we received the news that a modern high school was being erected for us , we immediately wanted to see lt. During the early spring we came down to see the school in its early stages. lt was the subjectfor many snapshots, We were glad when vacation time came because we knew we would be entering the school of our dreams in the fall, As we bid our classmates goodbye, we were sure all would return nextfall, if only to attend classes in a modern building, Janet on the bases At the County Track Meet A new era 'sv' P-v,x,. K Loyal Supporters E1 me ., A DREAM COMES TRUE SENICR HI LITE The summer soon faded into the distance and another school term began with forty one in the class. We were advancing in years and we were made to realize the hard work we had facing us, At last our dreams had come true, We were welcomed to our new school, new teachers, an auditorium, agymnasium, a cafeteria, new courses and more space, The new cafeteria meant we would have hot meals and a nice place in which to eat. The new school, with its improve - ments, was really appreciated by the students and faculty, Our homeroom teacherwas Mrs. Myrtice Bennet, During the year, the Student Councilintroduced The May Queen con - test. The candidate from our class was Ruth Thomas, Our class was the most successful in selling votes, Ruth was crowned Miss Carver of 1950. Seated high upon her dazzling throne, she was a picture of loveliness as members of her court gazed admiringly at her . Every member of her class was almost bursting with pride, Gee , we were proud.
