Potts. Popular, progressive and dynamic, Mr. Potts is well characterized by a leading radio and television publication as one who has never learned to say ' no ' in situations where he can be of help to others. Genial Gene, as h e is affectionately known by his thousands of devoted fans, became Charlotte ' s first Negro disc jockey in 1948. He is the only Negro on the board of directors of Radio Station W.G.I.V., of which he is also a stockholder. Mr. Potts is one of the nation ' s fifteen leading disc jockeys. Tests of strength among the disc jockeys of the local stations saw him as the winner by a wide margin. He has been cited in nat i o na 1 magazines, including Harpers and Radio and Television Mirror. Genial Gene is a c t iv e in the religious, social and civic life of the community. He has worked closely with the March of Dimes, the Y.M.C.A., the United Negro College Fund, the United Appeal, the Police Department and the public schools. In the course of the past two years the world has altered monumentally and none of us can escape its changes and responsibilities to meet the new challenges. You will realize that your own education has im- proved and thus your perceptions have been sharpened. You will need all the education you have acquired. The world is becoming highly specialized. In our society with its highest standard of living in the world, you will find that very soon a college education will be- come a minimum requirement. Never stop your education and never stop growing intellectually. You have compiled this book as a record of this experience. As the years go by, you will find this book a valuable memento of your associations, your faculty, your advisors, yourfellow students, and some of those who have helped in the develop- ment of our institution. Let this book make you proud of onething-- together we, all of us, have tried. More than that no one else can say. Edward Howard Brown mtk ■ ' ■ ■ ' - - H ' -H ■ ' t -,i if FACULTY MRS. L. M.
