A new setting with many new faces was quite a challenge to overcome. The Freshman's main objective for the 87-86 year was to blend in and to become more o port of things. Sophomores Main Objective: “Show me a little respect, please?” The Sophomores became more involved in clubs and activities since they were more familiar with their surroundings. A sophomore's main objective was to gain more respect than they had the previous year as Freshmen. Juniors Main Objective: To try and be the best. Living under the shadows of the Seniors was a difficult challenge that was faced well by the juniors. The Tiger footballers won districts and went to regionals, bur were defeated by Berkeley 20 ro 0. The Tiger basketball ream won rhe Boorheel Conference Tournament for rhe third year in a row. The golf ream looks forward ro o brighter future. As usual, the tennis team faired well in district competition and rhe baseball ream enjoyed another successful season. Girls' sports at C.H.S. continued ro grow in popularity and increased in success. Graduation took mony key players from the previous seoson's number three ranked squod. ond the feeling wos thot the Tigers would struggle with mony of their opponents in the coming season. However, the Tiger coaches ond players paid no mind to whor everyone else thought ond let the action on the gridiron do the talking. The Cot Pock faced o new opponent on the first Friday of 1987 — the Greene County Tech Golden Eagles. The gome wos full of first gome miscues on both team's ports, bur the Tigers pulled out the W on the strength of the boll control, offense, ond o sticky defense The Dog Defense'' is prepared to get their sticks. Resurfacing work on the city pork tennis courts forced the netrers out of three weeks of valuable practice time, and cancellation of oil home marches until the work wos completed. Senior players like Shannon Guthrie, Grittiyo Suppotonosiri, Tonyo Lewis, ond Kristy Homm thought their final season would end in heartbreaking fashion. This would mean thot the girls would hove ro use their quickness ro get the boll down the court. Going up ogoinst more experienced teams proved to be o difficult rosk. Although they were o lor more experienced, the Tigers ployed good gomes ogoinst them, never giving up. All in oil, rhe ream hod o good season.
