The Tiger squad had to make up In ability for its lack of size. Leadership was another quality the Tigers possessed little of. But the team combined all of their talents together to beat the odds. After winning the season opener in overtime the Tigers rolled on. With only one regular season loss, that against Malden. 7-6. the Tigers put together another fine year at 8-1 during this football season. This fine record was accomplished by superb coaching and outstanding plays by the Big Rod. Many of the Tiger victories wore made possible by big plays. The Tiger team had no stand-out players, hut instead a combination of fine athletes. Another strong football team was produced by Coach Lloyd Block as the Big Red advanced to the state playoffs once again. 140 Willie Taylor makes one of bis nine interceptions of the year. Carl Knott and Dor Englahirdt ara trying to protoct Greg Watkins loag enough to gat a piss off. 141 JUNIOR VRRSITY The strong varsity level football team has been built time and time again from an excellent junior varsity system. The Tigers' junior squad has been a major (actor for the varsity's strong teams over the past years. With a short schedule of only 5 games because of cancellations, the junior varsity went undefeated. With a junior varsity team as strong as the Big Red. the fans are in store for some fine football in the coming football seasons. a T B F a Coach Edwards and Coach Morgan discuss the game as Coach Victor looks on. When the hurting steps they will reded en the many dese games they won on determination, conditioning, and pure willpower. The young men will think about the lack of really outstanding lootball players on their team, but they won anyhow. When the hurting stops they will be prond of their accomplishments, of being co-champlons of the Central Conference, probably team for team the toughest conference In the slate, of winning the District One Crown, of playing in the state play-offs. When the hurting stops the parents of these young disappointed young men will still be as prond of them as if they had won tbo Show-Mo Bowl In Bosch Stadium. They have played like champions all year, not with championship ability, bat with championship dndication and character. We mention the parents because they hurt. toe. when their sons lose an Important game. Sometimes parents hnrt more than the boys do. so the parents must realize that their hurting will stop, and they will be happy again, and will look forward to another football season next year. When the hurting stops the students, teachers, and administration of the school will know that thair football team had brought more fine publicity and attention to Ihalr school again this year. The city as a whole again benefited from the effort these players pat forth these lest twelve and a half weeks, pins all of tbo hours they spent during the wntor winter and summer preparing for this season. People all over the state know about Carulhersvllle becausa of oar football team, and that is bocauso of the fine young men who gave everything they had to their team. The outstanding coaching staff has given this group of boys pride and have taught them that they can be winners if they don't qnlt. This team didn’t quit. Ceach Edwards and Matt Victor. Trainer Marlon Morgan, and the junior high coaches all made this a memorable season, onn not to be forgotten. When the hurting stops everyone will realize that the world won't stop |nst because the Tigers lost a lootball game. Life goes on. This tine team has left a legacy for other teams to follow. That legacy: that championship tuams dsa'I have to have 50 players, bio olavors oulstandino olavers to bring pride to themselves and their school. — Reprinted from Th$ Dtmocril-Argus.
