James is a warm and affectionate person who loves to be the center of attention and can usually be found, surrounded by a mob of girls. As a senior James played varsity football, was a captain of the varsity tennis team, served as sergeant-at- arms for the senior class student body, and was a member of l.ettermen's Club. During his junior year, James was on the varisty basketball team, served as captain of the varsity tennis team, and was a member of Lettermen's Club. In his sophomore year, James played both junior varsity football and baketball. He also played on the varsity tennis team, and was a member of Lettermen's Club. 18 As a freshman at- Caruthers High, James was on the junior varsity football and basketball teams, he played on the varsity tennis team, and was nominated football homecoming king candidate. In remembering his past four years, James said, HWinning the Sierra Dequoia Division Championship was the best feeling I had in my sports career during my junior year of high school. Also, being a member of a contempory gospel group called 'tHeirborn and cutting an album were thrilling experiences for me. As you can obviously see, James deserved the title of 1981 Raider. Joyce is a very outgoing person with a warm and friendly personality. As a Senior, Joyce showed leadership as the CSF president, Parliamentarian for Student Council, a Songleader, and on the varsity tennis team. Her Junior year she was class president a member of CSF, FBLA treasurer, on the varsity tennis team, and a Songleader. Joyce's Sophomore year was also a busy one, she was class president, a member of band and LA, CSF secretary, and played on the JV tennis team. She was also in Pep Club and a member of stage band. In her Freshman year whe was secretary of her class, in band, a member-at-large in Student Council, and in CSF. The Caruthers High Varsity Football Team entered a tough new league this past year. They played teams such as Woodlake, Orosi, Riverdale, Lindsay and Immanuel. The Raiders were coached by Head Coach Gary Del Simone and Assistant Coach Frank Warren. Also lVlr. Ted Bair and lVlr. Bob Grifhn donated very much knowledge and time towards the Blue Raider Team. The Raiders ended the season with a 3-2 record, placing third in league. When Coach Del Simone was asked what he thought of this year's football team, he had alot to say, such as, the team had a two word slogan, Ulfun and Discipline. They were led through a rough season by their new coach David Weaver and assistant coach Gabe lVlunoz. The JV team had a large group of over 40 players. They had good experience due to many returning players. The offensive line was led by Captain Rod Chow and the defensive tackle was led by Captain Mark Stroud. After a very successful season in '79' the girls fell to a 2-8 season record and 4-11 over all. They hoped it was a year of learning for all and a good time for growth. The competition was very tight with Immanual and Woodlake, both going into CIF competition. The league record was 6 wins and 4 losses, the seasonal record was ll wins and 9 losses. The team entered a new league this year and showed what Raider spirit could do. The girls worked together as a team and were coached well. This year they had a new coach, lVliss Phillips, and an assistant coach, Vickie Atwell. These two did a lot of hard work and did their jobs well. Jenny was living with lVlr. and Nlrs. Deward Gee. Jenny was entering her junior year here at Caruthers where she had been a Hag girl her freshman year. She was a quiet, sweet, and fun loving person that got along very will with everyone. The tragic loss of Jenny terribly stunned all who knew and loved her. She brought joy and happiness to everyone that knew her. Juniors The Junior Class was a small one this year, but they were very active. This year, as in the past, the Juniors ran the football and basketball concession stands. This helped them to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom, that they sponsored during the spring. Spirit Week started off the Homecoming with Monday being Inside Out Day, Tuesday Costume Day, Wednesday Hat Day, Thursday Punk Rock Day, and Friday as the traditional Blue 8L White Day. Friday afternoon a rally was held for the football players and the Homecoming Candidates where the King 84 Queen were announced. During half-time of the Orosi - Caruthers Varsity game, Kim Johnson was crowned 1980 Homecoming Queen by last year's Homecoming Queen Susan Hawkins. They sponsored the Homecoming football and basketball dances. In January they had a Donkey Basketball game. They also sponsored a Mother-Daughter playnight. To raise money CSF collected newspapers from over 35 places in the Caruthers area each month. Seniors who have been in CSF for at least 4 of their last 6 semesters receive a gold seal on their diploma and a scholarship.
