F55 'S-.M Ralf ' As Freshman we entered high school with a feeling of fright and too a feeling of excitement. With time we adjusted ourselves to high school atmosphere and the fear faded away. The excitement grew more intense. Through the years we've all faced disappointments, we've all faced changes. Together we've cried, together we've laughed and had fun. As Seniors, we departed from high school with a feeling of pride, and with us we took the unforgettable memories. As Senior Class President, I wish to extend sincere thanks from the l'Great Class of 1980 to each and every individual who contributed to our educational years. Upon entering Caruthers High School, he became a junior varsity football co-captain and later played on the junior varsity wrestling and baseball teams. He was also chosen freshmen Christmas king candidate. He played on the varsity football, wrestling, and baseball teams during his sophomore year. During his junior year, Armando was again in the varsity line-up in football and baseball and was co- captain of the wrestling team. Besides being an active athlete, he served in elective othces as Lettermen's Club sergeant-at-arms, junior class president and a member of student council. He was chosen king candidate for the Christmas dance and was an active member on the prom committee. Armando's senior year was also a busy one. As co-captain of the varsity football team, he helped lead his team to a valley championship. Because of this he was named the WSL IVlost Valuable Back and was selected for both teams in All League. Besides this, he was again a co-captain of the varsity wrestling team and a member of the varsity baseball team. He was also elected Lettermen's Club president and class yell leader. When Armando was asked to reveal the most fun and memorable incident in his last four years he 20 replied, NI enjoyed playing with my football teammates even though at first we had problems. We stayed close like a family, and I just wish I could do it again with the same team next year. When asked which of his four years had been the most enjoyable he commented, 'XI liked all four years. They all had their good and bad points, so I really couldn't pick one over the other. Armando was Raider Ralderette was Margie. Margie Arreguin was chosen Raiderette for her warm, friendly personality and exemplary dedication to the school and its people. Her remarkable leadership ability began as freshmen class vice- ET' ' s ,es . Hs, ' l'f'I president and student council representative. She was also a very outstanding majorette, As a sophomore, Margie was a hnalist in the Lions Club Speech Contest and was a majorette. Her junior year was also a busy one. She served as student body vice-president, co-chairman of the junior concession stand and helped promote spirit at the rallies as class yell-leader. As Margie's years at Caruthers High came to an end, her involvement was still strong. She was senior class president, student body first vice-president, a member of the senior sign painting committee and served as chairman of the 1979 Homecoming parade and football half time activities. Margie laughs remembering her experience planning the Homecoming Parade, lllt is funny remembering it now, but then it wasn't funny at all. For one thing, after I had planned the parade and given out instruction sheets to everyone thinking everyone would follow them, I learned at the last minute that the elementary band had to be moved to a new position! During the parade two floats didn't show up at all - one had fallen apart, and various cars came and went - one car went through eight times! After the parade, I didn't know that the floats were to go to the football Held and they went instead to the school parking lot before I realized it. In reflection she said, 'XI wouldn't mind doing it all over again, but I'd do it differently. 21 Juniors did it all. Juniors were very active this year. For Homecoming the Junior candidate's car won first place. Spirit and participation made them a winning class. The concession stand was a big fund raiser which allowed them to have a successful Junior-Senior Prom. MIDDLE LEFT: Look at the fascination on Esther Evans' face. C57 La Puerta annual staff worked long hours f.'IZEi L One of the most rewarding experiences of my life has come with the completion of the 1980 La Puerta annual. I was joined in this effort by a completely new but extremely hard working and competent staff. La Puerta also had a new advisor, Mrs. Dale Barackman who in time of crisis became the annual photographer. Many thanks go to her. Because of the turnover of the annual staff, the format of La Puerta has remained unchanged. Special thanks to Mrs. Diane Lane, Mr. Larry Johnson, and Mr. Del Lowrey for their help with the photography. I hope that you enjoy this annual as much as we enjoyed producing it.
