On September 18, 1950, one hundred and seven slightly confused and bewildered students started their four years' career at Caruthers. For the first week, their charming countenances glowed either from lipstick or from blushing. The freshmen soon proved that they could be a success socially. They were well behaved guests at the Welcome Dance staged by the sophomores and equally well polished hosts at the Halloween Dance which they put on for the student body. The freshmen proved early in the year that they can balance the budget. They made money by winning on their float entry in the Caruthers Fair, by selling cakes, and by giving a dance.
