Jr.-,. f HISTORY CF CLASS I9'5l When, in September, 1947, the class entered as freshmen, there were nearly sixty-five members. They got the traditional initiation of lipstick and looked like regular redskins for several days. After receiving their Welcome Party from the sophomores, the class launched on their active career by returning the favor. Class officers for that year were: Grace Masterson, President, Vernin Petrey, Vice Presi- dent, Colleene Pouncey, Secretary, and Margie McCormick, Treasurer. The class was guided and directed by the Advisors, Miss Betty Tietz and Mr. Wilbur TeSelle. The membership had reduced to fifty or more persons when school re-convened in the fall of 1948. Some had moved away, others married or dropped school to work. jerry Tiller was Presidentg Wayne Davis, Vice President, johnny Bartlett, Secretary, and Delia Hall, Treasurer during 1948-49. A Shamrock Swing was sponsored in March, 1949, and various other activities were conducted. Mrs. H. Anderson, Mr. Link Anderson, and Mr. E. Trainer were new Advisors for the year. The class was still smaller the following year for still more students had left the company. That was their junior year-and what a busy one it was! Like all juniors, they had to prepare to sponsor the junior-Senior Prom. A concessions booth was set up at the annual Caruthers Fair and pop corn, peanuts, and soft drinks were sold. Amateur barkers could be heard almost any time during the three days, building up and supporting the quality of Junior Class Products. A queen contest was sponsored, the winner to reign over the dedication of the new gymnasium. A candidate entered from each class. Rainbows was the theme chosen for the Prom and the date was set for May 26, 1950. The class as a whole immediately jumped to the task of planning and decorating the gym for the event. Crepe paper, ballons and a large rainbow ending in a pot of gold completely covered the half of the building. Class officers were: President, Lila Loveg Vice President, jerry Tiller, Secretary, Mary Ann From, Treasurer, Margaret Reed. Finally, in September, 1950, the class entered the doors of C.U.I-LS. as seniors. Several more old members were gone and a few new faces added. The number stood at forty-two. Officers were elected at the first class meeting. They were: Treasurer, Charles Scott, Secretary, Walter Lock, Vice President, Marian Becker, President, Lila Love. Most of the year the students were occupied with individual responsibilities but they did get together to sponsor a semi-formal Christmas dance. Now, at last, the class of 1951 has reached its goal. Thirty-five students are crossing the stage to receive their diplomas and go their separate ways to greater achievements. Some of the students will continue their educations in colleges or universities, others will begin to work immediately in stores, offices, or on farms. More, especially the fellows, will he joining the armed services and going to the defense of our country. All, regardless of occupation, will retain the memories of work accomplished and sad and happy hours spent at C.U.H.S.
