Class of '37 ln I933 we, The iunior Class, enTered The porTals oT The CaruThers Union High School, a Trille bewildered buT hoping To become accusTomed To such new rules as one-hour class periods and a ThirTy minuTe lunch period, AT The beginning oT The year The class numbering TiTTy-six was subiecTed To The in' sulTs and praeTical iokes oT The worldly wise upper classmen. When we were Treshf men, The uncivilized and unpopular lTrom The Treshmanls poinT oT viewl pracTice oT hazing was sTill in vogue. Therefore, aT our iniTiaTion parTy, we were Torced To suTTer The punishmenT OT being painTed like wild Indians, oT singing To The Tune or cackle oT The crackers we were eaTing, and oT playing The ever popular iuvenile game oT Ring around The Rosy. To show The sophomores ThaT we Torgave Them Tor noT knowing how To Throw a really grown up parTy , we gave The members oT The sophomore class a reTurn parTy. DespiTe Tho rough TreaTmenT we received, we had an enrollmonT of TiTTy-six sTudenTs aT The end oT The Term. We began our sophomore year on SepTember l7i I934 wiTh a lisT oT TiTTy-Three members. We Took our spiTe ouT on The poor freshmen, who were as bewildered and TrighTened as we had been. Their TrighT didn'T arouse our piTy in The leasT, and we iniTiaTed Them in The convenTional manner.
